Truth is that if you have never visited Greece and especially kythira before, you can't understand. It is a dry garden, no humidity in the ground yet you get the fresness from the trees. Pistachio and olive trees. It is a garden full of smells from the dry earth and the sea breeze that comes to meet your garden halfway.
I’m fortunate enough to have been to Athens, but not to Kythira. Your description is extremely evocative. Sadly, the perfume doesn’t match it. Thanks for watching.
I once lived on a citrus and avocado grove in the coastal foothills of southern california. We also had some wild brush, olive trees, and cultivated floral eucalyptus in a nearby parcel of land. This scent reminds me of that same feeling I would get walking through the grove with the on shore breezes blowing toward me from the Pacific. I am not sure why, but that is the feeling it gives me.
I love this one. To me, the scent is laying on a sun lounger in a Greek resort by the sea. There is a definite salt scent, pistachio ice-cream and some olive wood.
Mediterranean summers are dry and the grasses are, correspondingly, blonde-ish. Like the SF Bay area, California -- the grass is gold -- it's beautiful.
Well, my favorite collection of all time is the Un jardin line and en Méditerranée being my top 1, when I smelled the a cythre I immediately was reminded of that jardin spirit, the warmth, the complexity and the liveliness, which I feel like it lacked in the latest la lagune and monsieur li.
It's interesting that the ad copy mentions that there is no natural extract for pistachio. I have in my possession a C02 extract of pistachio intended for perfumery use, produced in Turkey. I actually did a write up for it on the Hermitage Oils site a number of years ago. Be that as it may, I am still quite curious about this one, but do agree that there was a dramatic shift starting with Le Jardin de Monsieur Li that I just couldn't sink my teeth into. Cheers!
Expected it to be more exciting. Thank you for yet another honest review. Need to find this at a store and sniff :) Also, beautiful turmeric Kurta. Always appreciate how you often try to match your outfits with the fragrance.
Your Greek pronunciation of Kythira island is absolutely right!!!! The perfume is amazing, excellent for summer. I just bought it. Greetings from Greece.
I have a soft spot and a fondness for this collection. I discovered it at a department store in Nice while on a trip with my best friend in 2015 and bought 4 of them immediately. I wore them for multiple summers and they felt bright and perfect. I sampled this one when it came out and to my nose I get a strong boiling basamti rice smell which lingers on my skin. Not a big fan. I may repurchased a couple of the older ones for the nostalgia. ❤
In my opinion the Jardin range shouldn't be finished. If they (at Hermés) look around in the world, they will find wonderful gardens all around, on every continent. Hopefully, they will get inspired by many of them and the range will revive. How about a Japanese, a Moroccan or a Caribbean garden? ('Un Jardin Japonaise'... sounds good!) And I would really appreciate a Hermés fragrance inspired by the garden of Monet in Giverny. It would be gorgeous!
I agree, I can't wait for, for example, a scent from iceland in spring, mossy and delicate, next to some hot springs. Or a seaside garden from bali. Or a deeply fertile garden next to a buckwheat farm in ukraine.
@@Persolaise Thank you! That La Isla Bonita comment…lol!!! As much as I like and appreciate Monsieur Li, I totally agree with your sentiments towards this collection. It was Sur La Lagune that killed this line for me.
@@darryl2542 Same here, i feel Le Jardin sur la Lagune as the most sophisticated of all the J Hermes collection. It’s intriguing, it stands out from the crown. They are all great parfumes but more oriented for a big audience. La Lagune it’s classy, flowery, green and salty. it’s a real Venice gardens, watery, ancient and mysterious. Great parfume!
I found the Olive Tree accord in this one to have a woody musk like feel to it that was very similar to Amouages Lineage (the new incense). Did you also find a similarity as well?
I've smelt H24 EDP, i didn't hate it nor liked it. I don't find similarities with Cythere, which i love. The freshness from the orange / citrus beautifully intertwines with the creamy nutty pistachio and woody base from the olive tree note. Its on my short wishlist. I do agree that it doesn't strike me as a garden or nature scent tho, especially compared to Un Jardin sur Le Nil which is evocative as you said.
I love the imagination of the gardens and recreation of each one of them ... me favourite is Un jardin apres le mousson ... in my thoughts i re create a Night Garden ?! Think in orchids, lady of the night, african bowstring, etc etc blooming in the dark 🤩🧏🏻♂️
I love Jardin Sure le Nil! This was my first bottle of Hermes perfume other than a mini bottle of Caleche my father gave me when I was young. None of the others wowed me at all, but it's been ages since I smelled them so who knows what I would think now? Thank you for your honest take on the new one! Julia
I ❤e it, it smells to me like a good cup a tea...Later I found it was pistachio..strange but I really like it. Only the longevity is little disappointed.
Mr. P please please please give me your honest, expert opinion: this one or Atkinsons- the nuptial bouquet? I know you might say that they have nothing in common and to choose the one that calls my name most but they both do- my perfume cupboard sighing right now, bank account crying- plus i am in a no buy year so.. help! P.S. this might be my opportunity to say a sincere thank you!
@@Persolaise well, given that you don’t agree with this Hermes in particular and that I haven’t even sniffed Atkinsons, I will stick with the NoBuyResolution- big sigh- for now. Thank you for taking the time to write Mr. P 🙋♀️
I quite liked it, but it seemed more like sun than garden. Toit remains my favourite of the line. Annoyed by the marketing that claims Aphrodite was born in Cythere though, myth is she was born from the sea in Cyprus (I know she's not real haha)
I enjoy H24, particularly the EDP, so you’re not alone. A very unique scent that many who complain constantly about generic designer perfumes won’t give the time of day.
As usual, I enjoyed this video and some of the comments. I already own a few Hermes Un Jardin fragrances, so will probably pass on this one. Thanks for the video!
I tried it last week. It disappeared from my skin after 20 min... Maybe because of the cold weather out here. I agree, you can feel this green nuttiness, it's quite ok but it's not worth it even to dig into behind these fragments if the perfume doesn't last an hour..
Perfect pronunciation of the perfume name in French Dariush! As for the scent, I'm not fond of it. Much too sweet and culinary for my taste. It made me even a bit sick to my stomach. Both times I tested it, I had to put it away quite quickly. It's a pity, I usually really love the Hermès garden series us. My favorite being Un Jardin sur le Nil and Un Jardin en Méditerranée. Interesting that you found it sharp and fresh in the opening. As well as abstract and intellectual. To me it felt very thick (=dense), fatty, nutty and sweet. I agree on your analysis of this series: colourful, naturalistic, exuberant...I would add joyful, playful and optimistic as well. At least for Sur le Nil and Sur le Toit. Aromatherapy in bottle! I got the same emotional effect with In Love Again YSL (also Ellena) and L'Heure Folle Cartier by Mathilde Laurent.
Hello Persolaise, I admire your passion, yes your passion, because your channel is the second reflection 😊. I have a question, I love L'Eau d'Hiver from Frederic Malle. It is at the first smell just a little more then nothing, and then the second smell is a so strong lasting layer. Do you know it's summer twin? The universal garden is individually graceful. Thank you 🙏🏿❤️
Dear Persolaise, I got the scent today....I was using it for a test and I am still, let me say speechless. The first thoughts which came into my mind were, do I join a burial now? The floral development which instantly occurs was somehow like a morbid explosion of decay? They were hitting me strongly and I was more then confused what is going on. Then after approximately two hours it all went away, no nuance of a smell at all, but the security there is something left which is still doing well but not perceptible stood, surely said after two hours?!
Czesc! I tried this last week. Big disappointment. The opening is very lemony like a "lave-vaiselle au citron" (lemon scented dishwasher detergent). I get the olive accent but it does not change the overall impression of cheap & weak and even if you say it in French it won't sound any better. My No. 1 Jardin will always be Mediterannee, followed by Mousson and Nil. After that I thought Ellena's creative juices kind of drained because the other Jardins were a bit like designed by the Post Office. Will continue to buy older Hermes creations especially Eau des Merveilles and Osmanthe Yunnan, but no more Jardins for me, sadly.
@@Persolaise What style? By the time Monsieur Li came out, there was no clearly defined style any more. I thought I was the only one who could also smell the cleaning detergent when I've smelled Un Jardin A Cythere .They do change their smell within 1h and all I could smell was woody smell and pistachios but what putting me off from buying them is that citrus smell at the begging 🤧🥴Maybe a give it a go,not sure if they're worth the price
