It was around 1993 in Bronx, New York when my local Korean station started showing Dragon Ball (channel 53 I do believe. I didn't have cable, but I had the basic channels like CBS (2), NBC (4), FOX (5), ABC (7), channel 9 (which eventually became UPN), WPIX channel 11 (which eventually became the WB and later the CW), PBS (13), and Telemundo and Univision (the two Spanish stations my mom watched her Spanish soap operas on. I forget what channels they were on but I think one of them was channel 41) and the Korean station (channel 53). I don't understand a word of Japanese and I can't read Korean subtitles, but I watched EVERY episode of Dragon Ball on channel 53 (they showed ALL of the "Kid Goku" stuff... uncensored) since I thought it was freaking awesome (I was able to understand the general plot through the character's actions and filled in my own dialogue based on how the characters interacted with each other). I later rewatched those episodes in English when they started showing up on Cartoon Network years later (very censored, but at least I could understand what the characters were saying to each other). After they wrapped up the "Kid Goku" stuff (they showed all the episodes uncensored all the way to the final episode of Dragon Ball where "Teen Goku" fights Piccolo JR. However, I don't think they ever showed Dragon Ball Z), they started showing other anime. One of those animes was called Dr.Slump (also from Dragon Ball creator Akira Toriyama).
Coming from The Corean Mage, I remember this was FAMOUS in Karaoke's in Asia in the early 2000's. The Chinese know what I'm talking about. In Korea they say "Son-oh-gohn" but in China it's "Sun Wukong"
My first introduction to dbz to the Korean sub. Versions. I though they We're really good, and still think that way today. I owe my intro to this show to Chadd and James Howe.
