As a nurse for 12 years in Massachusetts the nursing school you went doesn't matter that much. Like you mentioned the 2 most important thing to consider went applying to nursing school is: accreditation and tuition rate. I have worked with nurses that went Boston college, Umass Amherst, Northeastern university and Local community colleges, I see no difference. What matters is your individual ability to learn, also ability to develop strong clinical skills and experience. During hiring nurse managers and HR managers will congratulate you, "oh you went to Boston College that's a great school" at the end of the day you still get the same pay as someone who went to unknown school. Don't put yourself in debt going nursing school. If money is problem start from LPN then ADN then BSN. In my state we have universities that have LPN to BSN programs.
Doesn't it save you money to go straight to BSN? if you start at LPN you have to pay for education, then ADN and pay again for another program, then again for BSN. Does it save to go straight to BSN?
@@darla510 I live in MA, too. I have no idea about the LPN to BSN but know going to ADN and then RN to BSN saves you more money than going straight through BSN program.
Dear Sarah, I'm glad to be here for letting you know that I've passed my Nclex at the 3rd time.I found your channel one day before my test and helped me a lot for fixing some concepts. I've been a nurse since 1997 in Brazil, my home country. I've got in the US (2017), and I've started my validation process thought CGFNS in 2017. After many tests, like Toefl and CGFNS test, finally, I was allowed to take the NCLEX. My first and second attempts worked for me as a way to learn how to study and focus. Thank you for your EXCELLENT job, giving your time and acknowledgment for us. You are, definitely, a blessed and gifted person. I will keep learning from your channel! Thank you. Regarding Nursing school, in my case being a foreigner, does matter a lot, because it is important that you have had all the content required for a nursing school in the US, otherwise, you can't have your diploma recognized here. Again, thank you! And for all nursing student, future colleagues, and co-workers, NClex is the last step to become a nurse!Go for it and you will get it!
Awesome video! At first, when I read the title, I thought, "No, it doesn't matter..." but you bring up some really excellent points. I graduated from a diploma program in 1994, and I am so impressed by what I learned and how I was taught (hindsight is 20/20, I didn't appreciate it at the time!). Now as a hiring manager, I don't pay much attention to the school my nurses attended (or even their degree -diploma/ADN/BSN/MSN etc), but rather how they present themselves, how motivated they are, and if they possess critical thinking skills. P. S. I am enjoying your channel, thanks for helping the Nursing Profession!!
Of course it matters ...mine sent me out with hardly any clinical experience, any experience talking to doctors or families, and a big zero for documentation
but wouldn’t you say you learn that on the job, through experience? I don’t think a school can teach you how to be a professional... it comes with time.
My school would manipulate their graduation numbers to keep their nclex pass rates high. They’d have a HUGE extremely difficult 1000 question test at the end of school that had 5 parts to it. Regardless of passing all your classes or not u weren’t considered graduated until you passed. I saw people taking that test for 2-3 years after they finished school still trying to pass...they’d weed out 95-97% of their students so their strongest students were the only ones who would take the nclex keeping their pass rates high
Absolutely. It matters. Assuming that all factors are equal, which is how you’re suppose to conduct a fair comparison anyway, the right school/program can give you a strong network through their affiliated institutions where you can possibly be placed to do your clinical rotations. Also some schools, like the Ivy Leagues, will definitely make you more stellar than the other candidates. The type of degree will give you an advantage as well, usually the higher the better. All of which she mentioned. I also think that as the education requirement is increasing, the job market is also become more competitive.
I am debating if i should go to approve school but not accredited? Will that matter? I know it says there accrediting but what if its just approve right now and they’re on a process of getting accredited?
Coronovirus really turned everything backwards. My nursing semester has been canceled be cause we cannot have clinicals, but close by nursing school is still going because their curriculum doesnt require so much clinical hours in the first sem
Hey! Can you talk about what nursing specialty fields don’t require you do dosage calculation to administer medications? I’m in my first semester of ADN program and pretty scared about medication errors.
Its a necessary evil, but med error is such a huge issue in healthcare that there are machines and people in place to prevent them (ie. Pharmacy, med packs, medication and supply Pyxis)
Im from Pakistan.. N my nursing school sucks. .. Zero studies and no practicals. No improvement of learning.. They just want that do work work n work in the hospital that's it

Location matters, but what you put in is usually worth more.
very true

But that's not necessarily because it was "less prestige". You also have to way the cost/benefit analysis for going through school.
but wouldn’t you say you learn that on the job, through experience? I don’t think a school can teach you how to be a professional... it comes with time.
sarah super true, I am an international graduate nurse.. as long as you passed your NCLEX-RN,you can be a great nurse..

My LPN school did the same thing
What accreditation is needed for a LPN school.

LOVE your videos! you help so many student nurses and i can speak for each one of us that you are soooo thankful!!!
You are amazing, thanks for your inspiration all the time, question, is there a program for nurses from other countries to come and work America?
Yes. You need to find an agency to help you with that. There are lots of them online. Make sure you do your research so you dont get scammed.
@@funmilayoakinyosoye1280 do you know any good and reliable agency out there?

What about diploma nursing programs
They still have that tho?😊
@@chiterrapalmer Yes there are a few. There is one in San Antonio (that's where I live), but they are slowing going the way of the dinosaur.
Chiterra Palmer yes... they do
(My second time) First to watch, comment and like. Yah.🙌🏾🙌🏾. Thanks for the video, Sarah.
Can you have a job when you going to nursing school ?
Andrea Garcia that’s up to you and what you can handle
Hey! Can you talk about what nursing specialty fields don’t require you do dosage calculation to administer medications? I’m in my first semester of ADN program and pretty scared about medication errors.
halanishahina you’ll get it. You won’t be doing medication dosage hardly ever out in the real world.
