I first came across this video and your channel a couple years ago when I was researching laminated plywood furniture for a tv stand i built. Now im getting ready to use this technique once again to build a dog bed, and wanted to do a little more research for the video title. This video popped up again, and i had to watch it for probably the 5th time. The building technique is cool, but what really does it for me is the way you recorded this one. I love how it feels like one continuous shot and the camera just follows you around. Very inspirational!
I saw this years ago and was reminded of it again from your latest build. I forgot that this was sans CNC work. Those repeating cuts look so much more laborious without a CNC. Think this also would almost certainly have some epoxy touch ups on some of the blemish areas if replicated now. It felt odd now not seeing that from one of your builds.
Hi Shaun I started a coffee tables based on this design and process! However instead of the wooden insert at the opposite side of the curve there are going to be cast concrete pillars. I'll be sure to tag you on social meeds when it's completed. God bless buddy!
Absolute beautiful bench! I can't help it but I do love plywood nd being able to see the layers. But for now my wife is in to walnut. Thanks for a great video!
I don't normally comment in videos but felt compelled to tell you how stunning this piece is. I would actually use it as a table in my lounge rather than a bench. Great design and brilliantly executed. Subbed
Man I love your videos, am in Uganda, Africa and i would like to set up a wood workshop like yours. Kindly tell me which machines i would need and which company would you recommend
Thanks for watching! I would say just start making things with what you have, and as you move forward you can decide what you need. A circular saw and a drill are a great place to start!
If you are a millenial then go to 7:43 that will skip all the process of hardwork, patience, dedication, frustration, dissapointment that this video required to be done. It will save you almost 8 min of your life and will fill you with that so needed instant shot of endorfins you came in here to get.
Haha! Thanks for recognizing that. We are definitely in an era of extreme instant gratification. I'll just try to keep doing my part to help people enjoy the process.
You should build a desk like this. With shelves or drawers on the open end. The shelves or drawers could be a free floating piece of their own, with only a wooden rod or dowel at the top and bottom to support both it and the desk.
Well done! Very efficient & not much waste. If I may offer 1 piece of constructive criticism. It would be that when doing a glue up. Of real wood like wulnut. Or any species of wood. It's visually best to try to match the grain. Or grain pattern if you can before the glue up. So it can have the appearance of being a solid board. Even though it is a glue up. It has a better presentation appeal to those with a keen eye. And when making classic furniture. They had big solid boards to work with. Now a days most woodworkers don't. But we have to make it appear like we do.
Thanks for watching and thanks for the comment. I definitely agree, and I always consider grain matching when joining boards together. Unfortunately, I only had the one piece of Walnut when I was making the bench, and it just didn't quite match up as nicely as I would have liked, but I had to go with what I had.
Thanks, really appreciate it! This piece uses quite a few of my machines, table saw, band saw, planer, router table, edge sander, domino joiner. I'm working on a shop tour video that will show all of the tools in my shop, so stay tuned for that.
Shaun Boyd as a fellow carpenter and joiner I was glued to watching it man, I like watching a craftsman work but especially something as cool as the finished bench 👏👏👏
Your craftsmanship is excellent!! nice job... though i was worried if thoselittle dowels connecting the bent and sheets could carry the weight of person... then you fixed the wood slab on other side, so now its stabilized... good job!
This is awesome! Are you a self-taught woodworker/furniture maker/designer, or did you study at a school or with someone independently? I'm attempting to learn to build furniture but I'm not so sure I can teach MYSELF to make such interesting and beautiful pieces... This is really inspiring. Thanks for taking the time to share with all of us!
Thank you, really appreciate it! I am pretty much completely self-taught. Went to school for Economics, but always wanted to do something creative, and woodworking and furniture making is where I found that. Just a lot of trial and error and finding inspiration wherever I could. It is a cliché, but if I can do it, anybody can!
Your video came up in feed today for the first time and I love this build. I'm a huge fan of the exposed edge of plywood and marrying that with solid timber makes for a great combination. I've obviously got some binge watching to do.
@@shaunboydmadethis love it! I love the subtle correction on my misspelled “planer”. Haha. Just kidding man. Keep up the awesome work. It is very inspiring.
Thanks Jason, really appreciate it! I would think this could work as an outdoor piece as long as it is finished with heavy outdoor varnish. I imagine the exposed plywood edge would be much more susceptible to soaking in moisture, so you would probably need to be extra thorough with finishing.
It is a cool design and I like it but I was expecting to see some more advanced woodworking when I came upon this video and saw that you were an artist. I've been seeing the exact same technique watching people build subwoofer boxes. Stacking plywood and the rest. I did like the choice of wood you used for the support
You have the most elegant design style, western free-form combined with oriental clarity and honest construction. Great!
Really appreciate that! I'm always trying to develop my design sense, and your description is very insightful and generous. Thanks for watching!
The simple elegance is just what the doctor ordered. Something about this piece speaks to me.
Thanks, Dan! I agree, I really focused on keeping this one as simple as possible.

Really appreciate it! Thanks for coming back and checking it out again! Good luck with the dog bed.
I love this piece and particularly love (even if it was probably the easiest part) the walnut leg with the two off angles. Really makes the piece.
WOOOOOOOOOW!!!! Spectacular work! Good Good Good!!
Really appreciate that, thanks for watching!
8 minutes and 28 seconds does this piece no justice. Beautiful design, dude
Really appreciate it! It always feels a little weird to edit everything down to such short videos, but that is how it goes.
I don't understand why you didn't... Just kidding. Pretty awesome!
Beautiful project... I don't see how anyone could hit a "Thumb Down" concerning this clip? Skill & Imagination!
Thanks, Simon! Really appreciate the kind words. UA-cam can be a fickle place.

Think this also would almost certainly have some epoxy touch ups on some of the blemish areas if replicated now. It felt odd now not seeing that from one of your builds.
Haha, yep! Would probably do it a lot differently these days. Thanks for going back to watch this one!
Hi Shaun I started a coffee tables based on this design and process! However instead of the wooden insert at the opposite side of the curve there are going to be cast concrete pillars. I'll be sure to tag you on social meeds when it's completed. God bless buddy!
Sounds awesome! Can't wait to see it.
Beautiful work.Congratulations
Thanks!
Nice design and good job!
Really appreciate it, thanks for watching!
Plywood at art level of the thing.
Thank you!
I could see a few dozen of those scattered throughout the public spaces of a modern art museum. Nice job!
That would be awesome. Thanks for watching!
That’s so so cool. I’m impressed
Thank you!
kudos to your talent, passion, and patience. GREAT WORK.
Thank you!
Still one of the coolest builds you've done Shaun.
Thanks Dan! Still one of my favorites, as well!
Nice project!
Really appreciate it, thanks!
I just watched this on someone else's channel. Not cool for them to steal, but it brought me here, so cool! Love your work.
Do you have a link to the video?
The name of the video is DIY Plywood Bench by creative ideas. I’m on my phone so not sure how to copy the link.
Absolute beautiful bench! I can't help it but I do love plywood nd being able to see the layers. But for now my wife is in to walnut. Thanks for a great video!
Man, I love the look of that thing! The walnut is a nice refined touch against the plywood. And the curve and then angle of the leg...it just works!
Really appreciate that! I am very happy with how it turned out.
Bruce A. Ulrich my thoughts exactly!
Very cool. I dig the plywood "slab" look👍🏻
Thanks, I really appreciate it! The look of the plywood edge never fails to impress me.
So cool! Just out of curiosity, how many sheets of plywood did go into this, just the one???
Thanks! I don't remember exactly, but pretty sure it wasn't more than a single 4x8 sheet.
I don't normally comment in videos but felt compelled to tell you how stunning this piece is. I would actually use it as a table in my lounge rather than a bench. Great design and brilliantly executed. Subbed
I really appreciate the kind words! I agree, it would make a great table, as well. Thanks for the support.
Simple and clean with a twist! Nice job mate!
That is exactly what I shoot for in my designs! Thanks for watching, really appreciate it!
Thought I'd watch this video and learn something . . . but I've never seen anyone work this fast...💥🥂
If only I could do it that fast in real life!
Fantastic workmanship....good video
Thanks, really appreciate it!
Bench/ coffee table. Really classy work. Well made🤙
So you didn't do any veneer? So are all the plywood layers showing? How did you make it look so clean? Is it just really nice plywood?
Una maravilla de trabajo, un saludo desde España.
Muchas gracias.
Great job Shaun
Thanks Frank!
Great design and execution!!
Thank you, I really appreciate it!

bro that bench result was insane man, great work and the process just outstanding. bless
Great design and execution! I did cry a little when I saw wipe on Poly, but it is plywood so it makes sense.
Thanks, really appreciate it! I go back and forth with wipe-on poly, but in this application it works great.
Nice craftsmanship .
Thank you!
That's a hell of a lot of effort for something so impractical...but it was super fun to watch come together
Thanks for watching! You can sit on it, so it seems to do what it is meant for.
beautiful work of art
Thank you! Really appreciate it!
Amazing & Artistic work
Thank you!
Amazing design and realization!
Really appreciate it! Thanks!
Fantastic project !! GREAT !!!
Thank you!
Well done sir!
Thank you! Really appreciate it!
Very smart Shaun.
Amazing work
Thank you!
Nice work !! What loosers give this creative idea a thumbs down ?
Haha, thanks! UA-cam is a funny place.
hell yea dude. excellent work
Right on, really appreciate it.
Wow .... Thanks sir. very very beautiful. I like it.
Really appreciate it, thanks for watching!
nice idea and it came out great but are you leaving that chunk of stained wood holding up the two ends like that?
Parabéns pelo trabalho. Realmente é trabalhoso. Ficou muito bonito. Congratulations on your work. It really is laborious. It was very beautiful.
I really appreciate your kind words. Thank you!
Eu realmente aprecio suas amáveis palavras. Obrigado!
Great work man. Awesome workshop 🙏🏻
Thanks, really appreciate it!
Столько труда вложено ради лавочки? I thought it would be speakers.
Great skills man!

I have actually been wanting to build a desk in a similar style to this for awhile. Hopefully I can get around to it soon.
Very cool piece, true art. Watching you use the table saw with the hoodie strings dangling added some suspense too, Yikes. Thanks for posting.
I'd totally dig a dining room table in this design - would be a monster but so cool!
Easy to watch but difficult to make it . Congrats man !!!!
Really appreciate it, thanks for watching!
Hello, I'm from Brazil, what is the name of the machine you use for pinholes?
It is a Festool Domino. Thanks for watching!

That ls magnificent. How much did you sell it for?
Thanks, man! I actually never sold this one, it just lives in my little office at my shop.
Hi well done. May I ask what type of machinery you are using? I am new in this area. thanks
Thanks, really appreciate it! This piece uses quite a few of my machines, table saw, band saw, planer, router table, edge sander, domino joiner. I'm working on a shop tour video that will show all of the tools in my shop, so stay tuned for that.
Wow, looking forward to that one. Thank for your response!
Honestly one of the best videos I've ever watched on UA-cam, loved it 👏👏👏👏
Dang, I really appreciate that! Thanks for the kind words. There are a lot of videos on UA-cam.
Shaun Boyd as a fellow carpenter and joiner I was glued to watching it man, I like watching a craftsman work but especially something as cool as the finished bench 👏👏👏
I know what you mean, I spend a lot of time watching others create amazing things on here. Pretty awesome.
Thiago is not a job.
This ia art,you are an artist.
Thank you! I really appreciate that!
Very clever, and your workshop looks great. 👍
Thank you! Really appreciate it!
Your craftsmanship is excellent!! nice job... though i was worried if thoselittle dowels connecting the bent and sheets could carry the weight of person... then you fixed the wood slab on other side, so now its stabilized... good job!
Thank you! Really appreciate it!
Dedicated man👌🏼
Thanks!
Looks awesome! What oil/varnish did you use?
Thanks! I think for this one it was wipe-on poly.
This is awesome! Are you a self-taught woodworker/furniture maker/designer, or did you study at a school or with someone independently? Shaun Boyd Well all the pieces I've watch you build are really beautiful and you make it look easy - sign of a real talent. You give me hope! 😀 - AC
Great job bro, well done 👍🙌🙌
Thanks, really appreciate it!
This piece was exceptionally well designed, meticulously crafted and flawlessly finished. Bravo Sir!
Really appreciate it, Andrew! I strive for all of those things.
Good job shaun
Thank you!
Awesome work, great job
Thank you!
Increíble, preciosa, es una maravilla, q envidia de manos, saber hacer todo eso ufff, me encanta
Muchas gracias!

Awesome work. perfect 👍
Really appreciate it! Thanks!
I like the idea and design. Thank you for sharing...
Very beautful. Very Gold!!!!
Thank you!
Seriously, your work is amazing! Great job. I love the contrast between the plywood and the walnut.
Really appreciate it! It's always fun to come up with new pieces. Thanks for watching.
Great design!
Really appreciate it, thanks for watching!
Great work! Is the planet and jointer all in one or two separate machines?
Thanks! Yeah, it is a combo machine. Planer and jointer in one.
@@shaunboydmadethis love it! I love the subtle correction on my misspelled “planer”. Haha. Just kidding man. Keep up the awesome work. It is very inspiring.
Tolle Arbeit, tolles Ergebnis. Danke fürs teilen!
Danke!
Liking the Ulster fleg on the wall
Right on, thanks!
Your design your ideas really great,
Very nice work there. I have question, would this be ok outside for garden furniture since you are using plywood?
Thanks Jason, really appreciate it! I would think this could work as an outdoor piece as long as it is finished with heavy outdoor varnish. I imagine the exposed plywood edge would be much more susceptible to soaking in moisture, so you would probably need to be extra thorough with finishing.
Thanks Shaun I may try a test sample and see if it will hold up to good old Scottish weather. Yeah I was wondering myself about the exposed edges.
Very cool, nice job.
Thanks, really appreciate it!
Never could I have believed that a piece of furniture made with exposed plywood edges would look cool
That's a great compliment! Really appreciate it!
Amazing..i like your design.
Thank you!
Hats off to you in regard to this project...just subscribed.
Really appreciate it, thanks for the support!
Very good work I love it
Thank you!
Amazing man!
Thanks!
Dope bench man.
Thanks, man. Really appreciate it!
Congratulations, your piece was very beautiful. I love pieces made with plywood.
Parabéns, sua peça ficou muito bonita. Adoro peças feita com plywood.
Yeah, the plywood on it's edge is such an interesting look. Thanks for watching!
It is a cool design and I like it but I was expecting to see some more advanced woodworking when I came upon this video and saw that you were an artist. I've been seeing the exact same technique watching people build subwoofer boxes. Stacking plywood and the rest. I did like the choice of wood you used for the support

What a process to find a place to sit.
It was quite the relief to finally have a place to sit down once I was done.
Shaun Boyd haha the most rewarding sit down ever. Excellent design. keep it up. Proud of you.
Very nice! Well thought out and executed, I love it.
Thank you, I really appreciate it!
Mint .... As in . That's awesome!
Thank you, really appreciate it!
Cool! Looks like a bobsled table. 😄
Haha, might have to cut the top off and see how it slides.
it looks great !! BUT if I did the front parts of the plywood, I would close the veneer (oak, walnut) and it would be generally super
Beautiful job and very creative. The lines are clean and sharp! Who said plywood is only used for cheap and ugly projects??? Not me...Cheers Sean
Really appreciate it! It's always fun to take something that we are all used to seeing as cheap or ugly and to try making it into something beautiful.
