I'm glad to see one of your tournament reviews on our event! This is pretty awesome. James, our local Godo player, is super hype that you like his list!
Hey there Ian, I was interested in coaching but regarding something a bit different. I recently started putting some videos up and I wondered if you would be into the idea of doing coaching on content creation? Maybe you could even help me w some of my builds? I’m a cedh player but I have another passion that I think is honestly a better “sub format” and a great on ramp for newer players. Budget competitive. I am helping to organize a league and thought I’d put some content out for the local people interested in building their first “budget comp” decks. I thought maybe this niche would have a more general appeal though as well. Not getting the views I was expecting. Is this an area you think you could help with?
And chainer is for winning over an orcish bowmaster. By reanimating thassa at the end of necro draw. balista and endling and bloodpet necro is also there too for alternate win con
I recently made a Kess deck and used yours as my inspiration since the necro asmo skirge combo is one of my favorite combos. Glad you mentioned the use of chainer because thats one of the adds i was curious about. Ive played it a few times and its so much fun, has some really strong lines and doesnt put too much on the board so people dont get too threatened by it. Im on the fence with the jeska's will/necropotence in the deck but yeah, just wanted to tell you i loved playing the variation i made which doesnt stray too far from yours.
@willardgibbs1898 jeskais will is only used to power out the broodlord if you are running into a lot of graveyard hate. I only ever choose the mana side for it. And for dark petition, I put it in to grab necropotence or start an asmodeus line or a 5 mana buried alive. Or if I need more black to do combos or cast things. Trust me, I wanted to make changes, but my buddy told me to wait until everyone got a chance to look at it. But I already know changes based on what I saw and what I used and what would feel good in it.
@willardgibbs1898 and tbh the necropotence was one of the first things I wanted to change. Because every will think you are on ad nas and I don't want that extra hit to my life total. And I'd rather have a cantrip to help filter a bit earlier.
Hey! Just leaving a comment to say that these reviews make me so excited, one of my favorite video formats ever, and I always look forward to them. You do a really amazing job analyzing and explaining to the point that I, someone who just recently started playing cEDH, can really understand the whole thing! I hope this comment boosts the algorithm so that you can get even more attention which is what you deserve! can't wait for more :)
I think the Necrotic Ooze line needs one black mana floating, Endling, Walking Ballista, and Blood Pet in the yard. Use the black to give Ooze undying, sac it to float 1 black with the blood pet ability, then when it returns with a counter, use the Walking Ballista ability to ping something, finally you use floating mana to give the ooze undying again and repeat the loop. It's pretty cool since you don't ever need to give Ooze haste.
Lord of Nazgul player chose violence with that deck, it's so sick. Trickbinding someone's Sisay and spitting out a Krosan Colossus with menace looks way too fun
Sting is used to untap a Godo that has Argentum Armor equipped to pop multiple permanents - it’s an alternative axis to take if an opponent has TOR protection to blow up as much of the board as possible :) There’s also been similar experimentation with Pip-Boy that can cycle through your entire deck and find Stomp/Call in a Professional to bypass TOR’s protection!
Yeah I finally wrote up a primer where I broke down the wincon situation, but it comes down to thoracle not being a card that actually advances my gamestate at all. Without black for the on the spot wins, it would just be for post infinite draw, but with most of my deck in hand I can definitely just win without it, so it got the axe 🫡
@@yaboymatch I figured that was the case, and thank you for experimenting with this deck. I had been interested in it, but couldn’t get it to work in my experience.
Would be cool if you added chapters on decks that you go over so I can see the deck list along side the video. Because of the scrolling you do to look at the decklist I have to constantly seek to find what exactly you're covering
Great video, would love to see 2x videos a week come back! A tournament report/breakdown plus a "Brewers Advantage"/"Deck not on the DDB" spicy deck tech of the week type video
Magda is particularly good at winning through either Grafdigger cage or null rod (except both at same time) Because of things like liquid metal torque and mirror of the forbears you can still execute a clock combo and make infinite tapped treasures while cage is out. Then there’s a line involving copying a forbears Magda artifact to loop and turn tapped treasures into untapped treasures. Then we just loop burn spells with elixir. Battered golem and bloodboiler dwarf get us through null rod.
Every time I tested with mox diamond it was never good for me so I cut it lol. People tell me I'm crazy all the time. Felidar wasnt something you typically went for if you assembled infinite mana, but it came up a bunch that I could neo form or Eldritch it out and get a surprise sahelli cat combo.
As a Sisay player myself I find Mox Diamond to be clunky a lot times. Unless I have a big draw engine in play, like early Remora or a Rhystic, or a big TOR, it's usually kinda dead. I like Felidar, I'll probably test it too, with a Birthing Pod. I found myself with a lot of 3 drops, including Sisay, Neoforming them into Displacer Kitten. Having a Birthing Pod to pod all the dorks into Dockside and Sisay into Kittens (and Felidar) makes so many interesting lines.
I thought the Jaheira/Artisan and Jhoira decks were the most fascinating especially after reading the primer of the Jaheira deck and also reading the comments of the Jhoira deck on their win lines, etc.
I've gotten in over 300 games with Jhoira as the Commander. I run a completely different list, but yeah, she has potential. I focus on KCI lines and no scepter lines. My list is based off Sam Black's version. Clones are very powerful in the deck. This list looks focused on getting The One Ring as fast as possible.
35:12 Thoughts on thassas oracle in jhoira? I know it’s often not needed but being able to draw your deck with the one ring and mind over matter seems good.
Feel like Unctus would be good in that Jhoira list as it combos with Aphetto Alchemist, is an artifact, and synergises with all the tapping shenanigans
I think some of those Kess lines are from K'rrik lists. I'm kinda surprised that K'rrik decks don't usually run the Endling, Ooze, Blood pet, Ballista combos like Kess was running.
As someone who plays a reanimator list that leans on brood lord, the kess player is missing burnt offering. Even if just as a sacrifice replacement, i tend to think its just better
Heyo, it was my best friend i was with that was the kess deck. Ready for the wild part? Until the night before this was a Mairsil deck. We were play testing and decided to switch to kess and swap out like 5 cards. And my boi made it to top 4
Jaheira/Guild Artisan player here! Thanks for covering the deck! One of my passion projects and it’s a blast to play!
Brothers War Takeover Incoming with all the Fringe. Jaheria/Guild is just the beginning 😎
Very cool deck!

it's a sick one for sure :D

Thanks for my Deck shout-out 😂 Kess Dissing the Mages was actually a Mairsel, the pretender deck until right before deck submission.

Also, do you have a specific line for dark petition? just a 5 mana buried alive or?

Thats a hot line!!!!

That was the Jaheria/Guild Artisan pilot's first tournament btw.
Congrats to the pilot!
Yeah I had a blast! Super excited for the next!

oh that's super interesting!
I had heard about the Pip Boy testing from G toast which I find fascinating
Appreciate the mic move my dude! Love the video!!! Thanks for all the information
Jhoira pilot here, glad to do ya proud papa Ian 🫡
I was surprised to see no thoracle in the list, but I guess you don’t need it when you are that cool.
Many decks omit oracle outside of blue/black to increase card quality
Yeah I finally wrote up a primer where I broke down the wincon situation, but it comes down to thoracle not being a card that actually advances my gamestate at all. Nice to see Ian properly geek out on Kess! Gotta say I love the nazgul tech, that deck looks super fun.
Love seeing Lord of the Nazgul. I brewed a list when the set came out and i thought it was super fun. Especially for Dimir.

Cowboy Bob strikes again with another top cut! Watched this with the volume low for a reason lol. Great vid again Ian!

I'm also a Sisay player and I heavily enjoy the Pod variant and am on full Kiki lines. It's great fun to play
Thanks for covering my Omnath. It’s pronounced Brodie
Great player 10/10 would play with again

Can't wait for the punt city 3 review!
It will be up either Froday or next Monday
Godo with the sacrifice 🤌
Kess: the endling Ooze combo is endling, ballista, and blood pet. Give ooze undying it gets a counter, give it undying, ping, sac for b. Repeat.
Feel like Unctus would be good in that Jhoira list as it combos with Aphetto Alchemist, is an artifact, and synergises with all the tapping shenanigans
Game Knight is a great place! Love to call it my LGS
A recent cEDH tournament had over 100 players.
It happens often
Love the top 16 breakdows.
Some sweet lists here no lie
Hey Ian, can you explain the Stylus Loop in the Magda list? Im sure Im just missing something, but I can't figure out what they were looping to win.
I think some of those Kess lines are from K'rrik lists. I'm kinda surprised that K'rrik decks don't usually run the Endling, Ooze, Blood pet, Ballista combos like Kess was running.
My ears perked up when I heard Ian say Sam Black hahahaha.
Are you gonna be playing any at commandfest Dallas? If so what events are you jumping in?
I wasn't sure if there were ticketed events at Dallas haha
Definitely open to it :)
As someone who plays a reanimator list that leans on brood lord, the kess player is missing burnt offering. Even if just as a sacrifice replacement, i tend to think its just better
I agree for sure :)
This tournament was proxy friendly but we didnt order a burnt offering. It was a last min change
Ian loved that Godo list so much he called the next list Godo
I got too deep in the Godo 😅

that Jhoira deck was spicy as ghost pepper

I just posted a comment about coaching but it seems to not be here.
Very briefly; would you be open to do coaching on content creation?
Absolutely :) send me an email and we can talk :)
That jhoira deck looks like high powered edh!
I believe sting allows you to beat a blind obedience
Callahan did ian so dirty, im still shitting myself😂
What part?!?!??!
@@ComedIanMTG hi ian, the Music

31:17 the list looks very en-jhoirable 😅
How many Decks run the one Ring is disgusting.
Pronouncing Breauxdie as Browdy is a crime. Somebody teach this dude French!
