that's a little dark... if you mess with Santa's "magic dust" he'll plant your tree ass in the ground. Merry Christmas everybody!
"I HAVE THE MAGIC DUST!" - topping the list of things not to say when pulled over for a traffic stop.
17:08 This honestly sounds like she was channeling Shari Lewis hoping for the same sort of success. The kid also sounds like Tommy from Rugrats, which given the year this was released in, isn't surprising.
Tunes into holiday oddities, gets Lisa Simpson's saxophone artist
If you watched Sesame Street in the 90's, you're familiar with Wegman's Dogs. I'm desensitized to that. What's a real trip is his earliest indie film work where he';s just messing around with his dogs. He had a short film where he had the dogs playing a game of baseball, but unlike his more familiar stuff, it was JUST the dogs without the "Helping Hands" gimmick.
I also saw his dog videos on Sesame Street around that time, completely forgot about them until now.
And his early films, as well as dog baseball, aired on Saturday Night Live!
Wegman’s earliest black and white videotapes, featuring not just his earliest Weimaraner, Man Ray, but often himself without any dogs, were exhibited at the Whitney Museum in NYC. This occurred in the early 1970s, at the very beginning of the video art movement. (The Spelling Test is a classic!)
I'm one of those kids that remembers Wegmans' dogs from the sketches on Sesame Street.
Also, the 12 Days of Christmas are the 12 Days *_after_* Christmas - don't go leaving my birthday out of the equation!
The Santa Claus Show may have been taped in the late 90s, but the clothing looks distinctly earlier than that-especially with "that" color of forest green and the shoulder pads in the woman's shirt. They may have just been reusing the same wardrobe for years, though.
Merry Christmas, Ben, and thanks for another great video. 🎄
Merry Christmas Ben and to everyone else in Oddity Archive land!
Oh Jesus, i think i still have several of those Faye tapes sitting somewhere in my attic from when i was a kid.
Rewatching it makes it clearer how i turned out this way at least.
Wow the BennyFanBoynacle Choir joins in for a Pavan remix! Fun, Fun, Fun!!!
I really loved that slice of life Christmas segment, and I hope you're able to find more in the future 👍 Hope you have a Merry Christmas Ben. 😊
I will say, I am actually a pretty big fan of William Wegman, I'm a proud owner of his art book: Being Human, and I love his video works, even if they can be absolutely creepy. Then again, they've never seem to scare me, although I understand why they can be creepy. Great episode, and Merry Christmas Ben!
And I vaguely remember seeing some of his work for Sesame Street
Merry Christmas, Ben, and a Happy New Year Filled With Old Things
That mall clip was 7 minutes? damn that went fast.I freaking LOVED garys playing, who is he? did he do anything else?
Epic opening song! I love the original as well and love the haunting sound and eeriness of what lies beyond the test pattern. Great work!
Merry Christmas, Ben and all, and careful with that magic dust!
I made the "Annie Hall" joke shortly before it appeared on screen. After hearing Blueface, the white granny on the 1991 novelty rap tape sounds OK. Merry Christmas, Ben!
Wow...I had to break this one into five viewings to make it last through Christmas…and maintain my sanity!...the clear winner is Fay’s 12 days of Christmas!!...specifically, Fatty icing the cookies in the 1950’s kitch!!!
It must be Christmas, you put good old Santa Beavis on the shelf
That first example has the feeling of what we in the UK and also I believe many other Commonwealth countries call a _Pantomime._ They are ostensibly theatre shows for young children (I'm going to say not much older than 8), with a heavy dose of audience interaction.
Notably though, because of the age of the main target audience there are many adults in the audience as well, hence they do also contain many innuendos (usually sexual, but maybe drug references as well, it's been a long time since I've seen one!) which are very much intended to go straight over the heads of the children.
They are certainly a solely Christmas tradition, though the major difference with your example is that pantomimes don't typically theme themselves (in plot) around Christmas. They tend to use traditional fairy tales like Jack and the Beanstalk, Cinderella and Puss in Boots etc.
Anyway there's a fairly in depth wiki on Pantomime with a tonne more info.
Thanks and Merry Christmas Ben, to you and your Family
The special Christmas intro should have replaced the usual EAS Tornado Warning pic with one for a Blizzard Warning. Other than that, what a great video!
Oh, and my dad has a Weimaraner, and William Wegman's work reminds me of that!
Oh, and the music on Rappin' Up Christmas sounds like something you'd hear in a Christmas-themed GTA mod.
9:55 - Ok that was a legit spittake on my part.
Merry Christmas and Happy New Year Ben! I really enjoyed the mall video. Malls in the 80s were an experience, and I'm glad I was there to experience it.
Another good video, have a good Christmas
I will say that the dog count down reminds me of THE HUMAN CENTIPEDE. Well, in this case, it would be THE DOG CENTIPEDE.
Homeys 4 The Holidays is hilarious
These ones were pretty new to me, although have seen the image of those dogs dressed like humans before. Last year you covered the Christmas Rap Music from 1990 CD. Still trying to find the companion to it, Electronic Christmas Music from 1990.
Merry Christmas to you, and a Happy New Year.
Found it! Just remembered that the cassette itself said Electronic Christmas Music, but found that the actual title was Electronic Computer Christmas Music.
Willam Wegman also did shorts for Sesame Street
Yup. I recall the Old King Cole skit.
Somebody submit this to rifftrax NOW!!😂
Merry Christmas and Happy New Year Benny Boy!
Segment 1, or "See you at community theater practice!"
6:22 This is like one of the episodes of Star Trek where Mr. Spock loses control of his emotions.
10:02 Cue the Rev. Al Green.
10:14 That was my reaction as well.
Segment 2:
16:02 A rare cut from the Art of Noise's unreleased Christmas album.
Segment 3:
[Krusty the Clown voice] What the hell was that?
Segment 4:
30:53 OK, we get it, you're not thrilled to be doing this gig. I'm sure Doug's parents enjoyed all their sarcasm.
32:21 Sir, you're not worthy of wearing Count Floyd's cape.
Treasures❤❤❤
We’re the Fey dogs in Sesemie Street innersticials? It reminds me of one I saw as a kid.
Lisa Carol's rapping style reminds me a lot of 'Rappin' for Jesus'
The guy who wrote that song also wrote a couple of classic hip hop songs for Kurtis Blow
And, Jesus Christ is my N----A!
Merry Christmas, Ben.
let me say with absolute certainty that no one involved with the making of “Rappin’ Up Christmas” is involved to the proverbial “cookout”.
OK; fine… we’ll send Lisa/Fay a to-go plate out of respect for the elders and all that, but THAT’S IT!
"Yay, it's Oddity Archive Day! I'll get some laughs after moving all that furniture around!"
"Oh no! It's the Xmas Special! Benny-boy will have totally cringy videos! I need time before I see this."
"You know, I'm TOTALLY up for this now!"
That first segment made me uncomfortable. It looked like it was gonna turn into a Christmas themed snuff film at any moment...
Hello Ben. I got a question for you. Have you ever researched or made a video about Advent's Video Beam Television from the 1970s?
Rappin' Up Christmas?! More like Crappin' On Christmas...
well they say "things go better with coke '.....sniff.
8:31 I'm having Soupy Sales flashbacks for some reason. Even so, Tony Award material this is not.
Merry Xmas. We hope you and everyone still see the X.
I'm pretty sure they show the Fay video to insomniacs who don't respond to strong drugs,
Have you ever seen the Floyd Huddleston/Nancy Adams Christmas tape before?
I swear I think they used Fay as Old King Cole in a Sesame Street skit once.
the wegman skits were also on sesame street for a while, and the breed is pronounced Wy-muh-rah-ner you were close though
I actually like that rap album, its up there with jingle cats.
Have you covered cable television channels yet
That beats soundfont is like.. WWF Undertaker
Dear Ben, at 14:30 the tape's info shows Program 1 and Program 2 to indicate the two sides of the audio cassete tape. Is this really valid for those? Or someone were stuck in the past and really wanted this one to be a 8 track?
Merry Christmas Ben 🎉
I don't see why not--the meaning doesn't change as far as I'm concerned.
@@OddityArchive interesting. To be honest, 8 track were short lived in my land (Brazil). My late grandpa used to talk about having saw 8 track briefly the past. My father does not remember 8 track at all and I really got knowledge of it on the internet. The concept of 'programs' of the 8 track is interesting, being able to change tracks at any moment and access different tracks.
William Wegman: there's a name I haven't heard in a long time. he did the talk show circuit in the early 80s when "video art" was a thing (now he'd be a 12 year old girl doing tik tok videos)
A rotten stage show, bad Xmas Hip-hop, dogs with human hands...Thank God for the "slice of life" video otherwise this would be too surreal to be belived.
Season's Greetings, Benny-boy. 🤪
Why did everyone in the 90s think they could rap?
Lol, never again will I have even the slightest feeling that your standard intro is creepy!🤪
Day 2 of asking for a third emergency broadcast salute
Don't have the material for it.
@@OddityArchive I know it took you an extremely long time to get you material for the Second one and I know you pretty much covered it every thing about civil defense broadcasting but those are my favorite videos and I would love for a 3rd one
Just my 2¢, I would prefer you talked over the show with your comments versus the text on screen.
Those are the editor's notes.
In the province of Manitoba Canada the department stores played this crap I will not embraces the towns and Cities IE HI Ottawa Ontario Canada 😢
This is sad
😅Benny Boi you just lost47k whatever
