He is completely right about the Jeep Compass. We bought a 2015 Jeep Compass brand new and just recently the engine would shut off taking a turn. It did it for months until I got fed up and traded it in for a 2019Camry XSE. What a world of a difference
If you buy a Range Rover you need to put it up for sale about six months before the warranty goes out you do not want to own a range rover that you have to fix out of your pocket
Summary: Dont buy German cars Buy Toyota or Honda Don't buy GM Buy Toyota or Honda Don't buy Mazda Buy Toyota or Honda Don't buy Chrysler Buy Toyota or Honda
@@jdmguy44 Mazda's best days were when they worked closely with Ford. Since the separation, they've regressed. That may be coincidence, but whatever the reason, Mazdas are not as solid as they once were. I hope Scotty can support or refute my position.
@@c.j.rogers2422 I am guessing your a Ford fan, but it is a fact that the best Mazda's are the ones that do not use Ford parts. The worst Mazda's are the ones that do borrow parts from Ford. A good example is the euro spec mk2 Mazda 3 1.6 diesel - well known for engine problems. This engine was even used in PSA products! The euro spec mk1 Mazda 2 was simply a rebadged Fiesta, built (badly) by Ford in Spain. It was poor, and a Mazda in name only. Mazda (rather like Volvo) are doing great without Ford round their necks.
Erik Sojka used car salesmen. I agree. I need to know what cars yo steer my customers away from. Look for my comment for an in depth explanation. But I agree. More vids like this
After all the flooded out cars in H-town and many other cities/states, I'd avoid most newer, clean looking autos for a few years. Electrical issues later will let you know u chose wrong.
I have owned 2 jeep compass's I had a 2014 and drove it to 110k miles and now I have a 2016 jeep compass and have 40k miles on it right now I honestly have never had anything wrong other then regular maintenance and the usual things that go over time. I think they are pretty good 🤷♀️ but to each their own. Nice video.
7:35 - you start talking about a Jeep Renegade. Less than 30 seconds after I heard that, I saw a yellow one just like it! It was parked at a Dollar Tree. After hearing what you said, maybe it wasn’t parked... maybe it was broken down. Anyhow, thanks for all your info. We love you and we love your videos!!!!!
I'm a driver for a used car dealership, had to pickup a Jeep Compass from another dealership once took it about 5 miles out and the coolant gauge shot right up had to pull around and drop it back off. Terrible experience and Scotty is right the interior and all parts are very cheaply made.
I am a jeep guy,as well as a honda guy, toyota fan,and a bmw fan and yes I admit the compass is the gayest jeep ever made and the worst one two even the renegade and my dads 95 nissan maxima can do more offroading than that thing and cost less
Should have got it with the 5 speed manual. Mine does great and I have the power I need when I need since I am in control of the transmission. As for off road the compass is not designed to be an "off road" vehicle but has the ability to go there when needed. Kind of like a Subaru can go off road but isn't meant to be an off road car. The 4 wheel drive system is best for slick or dangerous road conditions. Here in Montana we get lots if snow and ice and it drives thru that crap like it's no ones business.
Have an 09 compass. The struts fall apart and need replacing every two years. Engine is ok but needs about 10 more horsepower. Would I buy another- NOPE.
I don't know about off road, but Subaru Foresters are amazing in our snow belt winters when they start measuring snowfall in feet. Christmas of 2017 we had over 5 feet of snow over a period of a few days and our Forester never let me down, even when the snow emergency was declared and people were asked not to drive unless necessary, having a health care worker at home we had to go out in it and even though you could hear the snow hitting the bottom it kept going. Love our Forester.
I can attest to the jeep compass, I bought a 2011 (new) and it has 150k miles on it. It still runs ok but there are tons of little things that have broken on the interior that shouldn't have. The biggest problem I had was some little module in the steering wheel went out that controls the headlights, blinkers, windshield wipers, horn, all the wheel buttons, etc. went out. A new module cost me over a grand and had to be "programmed" and installed by a dealer. It came as a surprise too when it failed and I cranked the car, at 5am when it was still dark out, and raining...
It is a shame that jeep is such a bad vehicle. The amount of problems with the 2018/19 is ridiculous. You are correct that they are living off the name. Harley Davidson is another example of the same
Central California towns ran Harley's on their police force for years. They hated bringing them to the shop every other week. So they went Yamaha and BMW. Never looked back.
Sorry Firetiger Rapala but it’s the other way around. I know lots of Harley owners that have well over 100k on their bikes and will tide cross country at a moments notice. Check out videos here on you tube from SRK cycles. They sell all models of used bikes and the owner rides high mileage Harley’s for his personal bike.
@@lobo176 There is a reason that Harley has mandated a "if you're on a road trip and your bike breaks, you get first priority for service." None of the other manufacturers have issued that sort of edict to their franchises (that I'm aware of?). It could be that Harley is looking to be #1 on customer service. Or it could be that they break down that much more often. I hear that they've come a long way on quality in the last 10 years especially, so this is not to say that they don't accumulate high mileage...but it usually can be measured in shop time.
well harley is starting to listen because the reliability has gone up since their sales have gone down drastically due to Japanese bikes being 10X more reliable and cheaper
@@lobo176 Exactly, I sold my 08 Harley Ultra CVO in 2016, it had 130,000 miles on it and ran great. I traded for a new 2016 CVO and have 40,000 miles on it, never been to the shop yet.
@@cordovaholdings7269 just luck of the draw I guess they have been trying to slap ford with a lawsuit since 2015 my mom has one of these clunkers and it feels like it is turbocharged with the amount of lag and slippage in the transmission
That was the twin clutch disc automatic. They had problems with these in the Focus, also. It is discontinued. It was weird, an automatic with a clutch. The computer operated the clutch. Problem was with the seal on the transmission, allowing oil to get on the clutches. Bad deal. There was some sort of payback, extended warranty, or something for some of these.
@@nwnative4139 2000 model had low miles but I replaced the entire cooling system & it still never ran without overheating. Pressure tested and everything else and it the engine was rebuilt as well but all it did was overheat. So I sold that car to a friend at work who put it in a demolition derby & put it out of its misery. My dad had a late model Rabbit from way back when & it ran like a champ.
Dude, I agree with you on most, except the Mazda. 180k Mazda3 here and it runs like a gem. The first gen Mazda CX-9, also a gem, based on friend’s and family reviews whom have owned these beasts. Calm down.
rs112490 yeah, I have no idea why he put Mazda on the list, other than because he had one customer have issues. Mazda is one of the highest reliability rated car brands out there, and parts are commonly inexpensive. I wonder if the costumer got a poorly maintained fleet vehicle or they didn’t keep regular repair schedule and went behind on matinence.
I’m sure that was the case with the parts. And same I got 190 on mine and have to do nothing to it...all the parts are as cheap as Honda’s and Toyota’s. But it was back when the cx9 had a v6 too
@@Alexdparkinson dont worry, the work I’ve had to do was minor. And if you have some simple tools you can get a lo of work done on this vehicle yourself
looking at buying a compass to upgrade for my partner as she has a Spark, that spark has been an increadable car more reliable than the new model hyundai i had
Never buy a used car from someone online claiming it’s in storage & they’re overseas & it was their dead or ex husbands car...Plus they’re planning to ship it to you for free & if you don’t like it you can send it back 🤣😂🤣
1: have a good or ASE/AAA shop mechanic look it over. 2: NEVER pay cash, 💰💸. 3: research & know the model, brand, engine style etc. 4: if the engine or vehicle makes ANY noises or simple parts, doors-windows-AC dont function, DO NOT buy it.
@Vladimir_Bone Spur_tRump i have always wondered the same thing, so, i thought, the next time i buy from a private party, like at their house, i will bring my mechanic with me, always good to know a friendly small town shop mechanic, and the town has a population of around 11,000

@Jimmy Cass ive got 80k on my '13 optima hybrid with zero issues, only things ive had to replace are tires, fluids and wiper blades. the only thing thats ever irked me is sometimes the bluetooth is finicky. bought it for 12 grand and put 45 thousand miles on it in 2 years averaging 35 mpg, im pretty happy with it.
Absolutly untrue. We have our second cx9. If oil is not changed on time it will ruin any engine. Cx9 models till 2014 have almost the same engine as ford edge ( slightly redesigned by mazda) and it is very reliable, easy will go above 200k, just change oil every 7500 miles using high quality full synthetic oil.
This is probably the only one i'm iffy on.. but maybe it's because I have a 2004 3 series with the 2.3.. maybe it's better? I'm at 192k miles and it runs good... the only major repair I did was replacing the rocker panels that rotted from the salt up here...
I have a 2008 Mazda CX7 Turbo. Truthfully it is decent automobile. but please change the oil on time with quality synthetic oil and use premium gas if it's turbo.
When I was in college, I worked as a gopher at an auto-air/service shop for a while. We had a similar customer to your Toyota one, only it wasn't 100K miles, it was 500k, and a Mercedes. So yeah, this little old lady in her late 90s, who had owned the car (bought it new) for around 20+ years, brought in her Mercedes 300D Turbo Diesel from I want to say 1982 (Was an early 80s model for sure, though) for it's first oil change. Ever. That wasn't her intention, however. She honestly believed German cars didn't have to have oil changes. She brought it in for a new A/C compressor and to see what the MIL was on for. (Overheating, unsurprisingly.) It took us several hours to flush the system under pressure several times before it could be refilled and actually de-gunk the entire system. The oil coming out when we removed the plug from the pan was become a thick, tar-like sludge with about the same consistency as a bucket of roofing tar BEFORE you heat it up. It piled up in the drain pan looking much more like something left by a dog than a car. I still to this day can hardly believe that 1: she had owned a single car and driven it for almost half a million miles and 2: more importantly, that it had NEVER had an oil change and was still somehow running. Granted, it was diesel, but STILL.
My grandpa was a ASE master mechanic. He owned his own shop and he told everyone he has had and heard of a crazy amount of people who buy new or used cars and when the engine light comes on or it stop running the garage finds out people are under the belief that synthetic oil NEVER needs changed. It will blow your mind how often it happens. They argue with him saying bad things, I seen it. Because they insist synthetic oil is permanent. He only was a mechanic about 60 years so its crazy.
@@Michaelthearcheangel Ah, yeah, thank you. I forgot to point out the fact that the REASON she thought it never needed an oil change was due to it being synthetic. I AM sort of surprised, however, after seeing this and now adding your story to my own experiences... This is a LOT more common than I thought. Thanks!
My father owned an 80's Mercedes 300SD Turbo Diesel. That car was great and it ran forever. He sold it in 2000 for a flashier looking Mercedes. He later admitted that he made a horrible mistake selling that old Diesel.
My parents own a 2011 Chevy Traverse that they bought used from a dealer a little over 2 years ago. Since then they have gone through 2 blown engines and are currently on the 3rd engine and they told me the other day it started knocking. My dad is a mechanic so he knows how to treat cars properly and maintain them. Those traverses are pieces of junk, stay away.
I know someone with the same issue. A Traverse with a blown engine. I heard there was a class action lawsuit or recall or something where you can get a replacement for free? Or very little cost from the dealer. Worth researching.
2011 Toyota RAV4...bought it used, and as soon as it hit 100k miles, the car just would no longer run...like, at all!!! In contrast, our 2002 Nissan Xterra was bought new, has over 250k on it, and still runs like a champ!
Oh my goodness really? I thought all Toyotas never broke down ever and all last to 300k miles that's why every single used one for sale is $10,000 more expensive than a similar model from another brand. Overpriced overhyped blandness.
Robin D., Old Toyota Corollas have very poor crash safety ratings and they drive poorly compared to European cars such as the Ford Focus and the Opel Astra. In fact, Australia's NRMA Open Road publication described Toyota Corollas as being like white goods (fridges, washing machines, etc) on wheels. My step son had a 2002 Corolla and I can confirm that this is true. Many Japanese and Korean hatches and sedans are like this.
I got a tc touring it’s holding up as far as mechanical but the rust it unbelievable it’s a 07 I have a 04 Chevy tb ls doesn’t have half the rust the van has got a 78 imp with less rust than both!!
Sometimes these small cars last forever because there is nothing to break as they are just simply built. My 97 tercel lasted 400,000km and 21 years and was still going when I traded it in. It needed a new exhaust system which was still original.
I honestly was a little surprised to see it on this list, I don't think it's a horrible car at all. I know some people who daily these of older model years and have racked up quite the mileage with them. Gas mileage is great too. Same story for Ford's Fiestas, although those do have well known automatic transmission issues, the manual versions of those are well regarded though.
Chrysler has been subpar for years. The engineering just isn't there, so Fiat/Chrysler makes up the difference by selling to rental fleets, discounting like crazy, and selling to people with bad credit.
@@keenanfinucan8778 - Daimler nearly ruined the entirety of Chrysler. During that time 1998-2007 Daimler went on a speeding spree using most of Chryslers cash to buy Freightliner, Smart, etc. So- Daimler just used cheaper materials for all non-Mercedes vehicles (Chrysler and it's divisions) I would've never bought anything from Fiat Chrysler based on the reputations at play here. Anyway- a very close friend of mine lost his battle with brain cancer, and left me his 2013 Jeep Grand Cherokee SRT with the 6.4 HEMI V8. This became my daily driver, I let the wife have the 2012 Land Cruiser- since she barely drives compared to me. Needless to say, 5 years later this Jeep has proven every bit as reliable as our Toyotas- I've put nearly 230,000 miles on the Jeep traveling for my company- and it's still my daily driver. Sure the leather on the outer driver's seat cushion is a little beat up, but I've just changed the fluids per manufacturer spec, one brake job at 150,000 miles, a transmission filter at 100,000 miles, and that is all. The interior is out together well, everything is soft, covered in leather, and uconnect has to be one of the best infotainment systems out there- it's fast, responsive, never crashes. Most importantly, the HEMI is every bit as strong now even with all these miles. Trust me I do put my foot in it quite often, sounds amazing. Anyway- given my experience with this Modern Jeep, I would definitely purchase a Grand Cherokee SRT without hesitation. It's been one of the best vehicles I've ever owned. This is high praise from a Toyota owner.
Wow!! at 5:17, that's my Mazda 626 ES-V6 pictured there. Photo was taken near Everett, Wa in August 2012. It was a good car, but after I hit 100K miles, it became very unreliable to the point that I had to trade it in for a new vehicle when I got to 120K miles. It was really comfortable and had good power, but I no longer trusted it for longer trips, and it was not worth the maintenance costs anymore. I'm now driving a lifted 2013 Jeep Wrangler Sport S and it's been very reliable so far (knock on wood) Note: I also have a 2016.5 Mazda CX-5 on lease, and so far so good!
I remember my sister had a 929 and it was a headache, but it was something to look at...it was beautiful. Then I remember my uncle had a 929 in the early 90's and had no issues. 🤷🏾♀️
My friend had a jeep.. he pretty much walked to work. Mechanics knew what was wrong with it and fixed it over and over , but it just the same thing kept breaking.
Scotty, I think you crank out some great, worthwhile, diverse vids! But would you consider bringing another knowledgeable mechanic on periodically & get some mechanic banter going (ex. hidden gem cars, terrible trends, bang for the buck....etc.) Just a thought - keep 'em coming!
@@AntonioRey4 I'm glad to hear you are having good luck with your Cruze so far. I bought a new Chevy truck in 2003 and it was the biggest pos I ever spent money on, and my Corvette isn't a benchmark of outstanding quality either.
@@AntonioRey4 Talk to me about reliable and rock solid when its like my 94 Corolla, 386k and still a solid car with an AUTOMATIC to boot. Two things you fail to realize, first, 40k is nothing these days even for junk brands like Chevy watch when you hit 100k or close to it. Second, for every one Chevy Cruze owner who shares your same story, there are 150 Honda or Toyota owners of a comparable car who have that or better of a story. Consistency of quality control has long been a GM problem like many other manufacturers foreign and domestic.
@@davidkaminski615 fortunate for you; I have a 2003 Camry with the dreaded head bolt stripping issue that has TONS of complaints about although it isn't " recognized " as recall issue by Toyota, they literally have a FIX for it; all at OWNERS cost… and ZERO $ assistance for someone like me who bought it from a Toyota dealer AND bought extended warranties on this used vehicle AND had ALL services done at the dealership - GAINESVILLE< FL.
My sister did that "never change the oil" test on a new 1989 Ford Escort. She got 2 years and 25000 miles before the engine seized up from the sludge. The "best" part there? The dealer she brought the car to (cause it was under warranty... haha) went bankrupt while they were working on her car. So in the paperwork shuffle, they got all confused and Ford shipped all their active repairs to another local Ford dealer, who then finished the job by replacing her engine. Total cost? $50 deductible, thank you drive through please. She now changes her oil regularly and switched to a "smarter" car....meaning Toyota...got 215k mi out of her 1998 Toyota Camry and is closing in on 100k mi on her 2011 Toyota RAV4. Yeah...change that oil!
My 2014 Honda Accord Sport has 140,000 miles and I have only done routine oil changes, replaced tires, some lights, and brake pads & rotors. Still on most original parts and runs quiet and smooth. *knock on wood*
I have a 2005 Honda Civic with 118,502 miles. The freaking thing runs just like day one and boy the Honda engines are very powerful, the baby pers at high RPM's just love it. Japanese cars for life!
I use to have a 2005 Civic EX Special edition coupe with a 5 speed and it was a great car, got 300k miles out of it but it had a few issues due to the previous owners not properly installing things. Otherwise ran like it should, I miss it occasionally.
My Acura 2002,coupe has 325k on it original motor and tranny. Stick shift transmission just starting to slip drove it 2000k miles myself minor problems
@light house My 2003 Sequoia has 300K miles and runs like a champ (in fact, just drove it round trip from IL to GA and back. I have only replaced the alternator, O2 sensor, and a caliper. Everything else was just maintainence.
I totally agree with every choice on this list. I used to be a dealership lot manager, and we had to run the used cars every morning, and drive them and report issues with them, and all of these had the same notorious problems
@vitriol or debate That is not correct. Daewoo is a South Korean brand and it is owned by GM. And Daihatsu is a Japanese brand which is a sub-brand of Toyota, like Lexus and Scion in the U.S.
I have a 2012 Chrysler 200 no issues other than replacing tie rods, alternator, tires, shocks and struts, battery. Normal wear and tear items. I've had this car 5 yrs now and thankfully no major problems
my 08 compass was a steal because the transmission went out at about 150k miles and the guy couldn't afford repairs so he left it with the mechanic. they rebuilt the transmission and that's pretty much all I paid for. the only problem it has is a bad gas cap sensor
I’ve owned GM, Ford, Jeep, Toyota, and Honda. They ALL needed repairs. Honda parts were the most expensive. The most reliable vehicles were my 90s era Ford Rangers and 00s era Taurus. My 2005 Toyota Sienna has had multiple recalls and many expensive repairs. My first vehicle... a Pontiac Sunbird was the worst by a landslide.
You have got to,be lying. The Ford Taurus is the number 1 car I've seen in my lifetime broken down and abandoned on the side of the road. No lie and its not even close
Same with my 2014 Compass. No issues at all. Paid $24k for a practically loaded Latitude 4x4 with Sunroof and factory Boston Sound system with a Subwoofer even. Car even has heated front seats !
My wife and I have a Compass. It is a 2011 with 70k on it. Not one major issue. It has drums in the rear, which we just serviced since it is time to. One of the servos was leaking fluid, but it was super cheap to replace, and common on drum brakes. Dash isnt cracked at all, and it sits in the sun all day evety day. No window tint either. My brothers Tundra Platinum blew up with 40k miles on it. Not only did the engine blow going down the freeway, but the suspension was ruined also. Shocks and struts were so worn, the fluid had drained out. They chalked it up to abuse. Didnt cover it even though the trucks only modification was Flowmaster mufflers. Everything else was stock. Look up problems with Tundra. Suspensions being ate like candy. 15k dollar repair bill. They bought a new Camry instead, eating a heavy trade in with their dealer. 20k miles later it needed a front end build and four wheel brake job. Not covered because joints/front end parts are "wearable parts." They kept it after sinking two grand on a one year old car. Guess where it is? At the shop at 36k miles. Front end and brakes. Again. Same issue. Dodge sucks for sure but Jeep got it right. The Compass we have has been through he!!. I hate that thing so much, but hard to knock it.
I had transmission problems on my 15 compass 2.4. The gears wouldn’t engage at 50k miles. Had to play around with reverse and drive to get it unstuck. Sold it 10k mile later before the warranty was up. It was the cvt
Wife has a 15 compass 2.4 6sp non cvt and its a been good. Just remember, jeeps love their fluid changes; oil, transmission fluid, gear oil, coolant, brake fluid. We change them at the recommended intervals and everything runs great.
Scotty: "Now the *LAST* vehicle I advise you never to buy used, is the 2013 Jeep Compass...". It was not a countdown to number one. Just a list or, if it was a count up from number 1 then the top of the list was the 2014 Mini.
I had a 2005 Dodge Magnum for 13 years. I’m convinced it only lasted that long because I had the engine replaced with a rebuilt on after the dealership refused to honor their warranty for the well known 2.7L engine sludge problem. In the end it was getting too expensive to keep replacing parts for the menagerie of front end suspension issues.
Almost certain that Mazda has been ENTIRELY on their own (much less NO more ownership/part sharing from Ford) since the mid 2010's. Right when their entire lineup got AGRESSIVELY redid. Heard the 3's were the closest balance between the reliability of a Corolla & Civic with the fun to drive of something you'd expect from Germany. As for the Cx (5 & 9) lineup, again, redesigned 100% under Mazda; based on my understanding, ALL the Mazda SUVs from the 2000's well into the early 2010's were badge engineered Fords... and they were NOT one bit ashamed from hiding it for whatever reason. But on the flipside, I recall hearing a coworker having around a quarter million miles on a 10-12 y/o Cx7 (albeit BADLY burning/consuming oil at that point) until someone stole it... But hopefully the 2016 mazda 6's are built to last; since I'm giving this company a chance with this car, I steered CLEAR away from their "all new; totally redesigned" 2014/15's just to be safe.
I agree it’s a bad idea to get a used Mini, though mostly because the previous owner did not know the first thing about their limitations (horrible design under the hood and shoddy components all around) and the fact that many people simply don’t have the mindset of even caring for their cars (namely, how most of them can’t even change the oil on a car). That said, I bought an ‘09 base Mini (because screw the turbocharged version, seriously) and she’s hung in there for 10 years now - parts fail all the time, so I’ve stayed on top of that all this time all while learning from Scotty’s channel and others for a few years now. Minis aren’t practical cars, to be honest - they’re for those of us who somehow make bad marriages last because the wife is hot and can cook a meal or two. Edit: Also, I have a cousin who’s a BMW technician (I order the parts and pay for labor, his rates ain’t too bad).
Luke C Agreed; I got my 09 base convertible new when I was living in MA and that’s how I made friends there - a lot of people in New England own a Mini to the point where you could simply talk to anyone who drove one, it’s like a big community or a cult of sorts. It really is a matter of devotion to the brand. Speaking of used Minis, I know Scotty was very specific with the model year that wasn’t so good (2014), but I would also point out some people swear by R56s if anyone’s in the market for a used Mini.
You are the truest car review I have seen ever. It's so spot on. Good job sir!! I own a Corolla and in a year and in 2 years I've put over 30,000 miles and the car runs great.
Who keeps a car until 150k anymore? Our 2011 Compass has 70k on it. No issues. I hate it though. I seriously do. Its under powered and small. Im 6'07" though. My brother is a Toyota guy. Blew the engine in a Tundra at only 40k miles. Suspension was done also. Shocks bone dry. See forums on that issue. Its common. Their new Camry is on its second front end and it just hit 36k miles. No warranty claims either. Tundra was filed as abuse. Camry filed as wearable parts. That also included a four wheek brake job since the rotors warped both times. Yeah, real nice. I wont ever own a Toyota. Ever.
And the Jeep Wrangler is SUV of the Year for 2019. Even though I see more and more ex-Jeep owners switching to Toyota 4Runners every day. The Jeep Renegade also won SUV of the year when it came out. And now the Renegade is on the least reliable vehicle list not far from the Chrysler 200.
@@Kingus_Dingus there are lots of cars that won't make 200,000 even if properly maintained. I have a friend selling an Audi A4 cheap if you're interested in a prime example.

Nope! Buy Mazda. They make some of the most reliable cars. The CX9 in this video has a Ford motor. It is basically a rebadged Ford.

I'm a driver for a used car dealership, had to pickup a Jeep Compass from another dealership once took it about 5 miles out and the coolant gauge shot right up had to pull around and drop it back off. Terrible experience and Scotty is right the interior and all parts are very cheaply made.
Lol...that Jeep compass is the worst vehicle I ever drove...... Horrible engine attatched to a bag of slush cvt transmision...;/
5 speed manual drives great! Starts are cheap and started squeaking early on my 2011

This is a great really really informative video!
phuk offndy Yep, all of his videos are.
@@lobo176 There is a reason that Harley has mandated a "if you're on a road trip and your bike breaks, you get first priority for service."
None of the other manufacturers have issued that sort of edict to their franchises (that I'm aware of?).

I think I saw somewhere that the manual transmission Fiesta is okay, but like you said, stay away from the automatic.
That was the twin clutch disc automatic. They had problems with these in the Focus, also. It is discontinued. It was weird, an automatic with a clutch. The computer operated the clutch. Problem was with the seal on the transmission, allowing oil to get on the clutches. Bad deal. There was some sort of payback, extended warranty, or something for some of these.

rs112490 yeah, I have no idea why he put Mazda on the list, other than because he had one customer have issues. Mazda is one of the highest reliability rated car brands out there, and parts are commonly inexpensive.

Sometimes these small cars last forever because there is nothing to break as they are just simply built. My 97 tercel lasted 400,000km and 21 years and was still going when I traded it in. It needed a new exhaust system which was still original.

Our current 2006 Mazda 6 at 130k is giving us the worst headaches... glad to know we’re not the only ones!

My friend had a jeep.. he pretty much walked to work. Mechanics knew what was wrong with it and fixed it over and over , but it just the same thing kept breaking.
Buddy had a 106000 mile jeep Cherokee regular oils changes and services. Still runs like new
As a jeep owner I approve this message
I have a 2006 Grand Cherokee for 10 years, only now I had to replace the wheel bearing.
Dang straight I liked the classic jeeps made before 1995
Scotty, I think you crank out some great, worthwhile, diverse vids! But would you consider bringing another knowledgeable mechanic on periodically & get some mechanic banter going (ex. hidden gem cars, terrible trends, bang for the buck....etc.) Just a thought - keep 'em coming!
My cousin had a Jeep Grand Cherokee that would do the same thing. He trades it in for a Silverado
What year?
But, Chevy made a commercial saying they are more reliable than Toyota and Honda so it must be true.
They also have done a survey, but if you read the fine letters it says from 2015. Hmmm🤔.
Same with JD power awards lmfao
My 2016 Chevy Cruze with manual 6 speed has 40K and it is rock solid. Zero issues so far.
Never had any Troubles with my 2009 Jeep Grand Cherokee thats still going strong

Yeah...change that oil!
oil is cheap, engines aren't.....changing the oil, cheap insurance.......

The Mazda CX9 uses a Ford Duratech motor if I'm not mistaken. They are not terrible motors. I think you are mistaken for the Mazda CX7.
