American Pop is one of my favorite animated films. It hits the emotional beats so well.

Bakshi is now selling some of the stills from American Pop. My favourite movie by him and probably my favourite animated movie.

Siskel's opening summery of American Pop is the only thing accurate he said in that it is a multi generational story which is what I liked about it. Each generation is trying to break into the music business with hopes of being a success in it. The last one finally becomes a star. It is without a doubt my favorite animated film of all time, and worth a watch. Baski has a certain style that just fits this movie so well. The animation, and voices brings the characters to life in a realistic way in mannerisms.

As a musician, I have loved American Pop since I saw it as a child in the 70's.

Seeing AMERICAN POP on the big screen in the late 70's as a kid was mind blowing.

Although I agreed with the guys about Bakshi’s use of historical needle drops:
“So, is THIS supposed to be Bob Seger, or…? 🤷‍♂️”

5:35: lol, I’ve seen enough of these to know that Siskel gave this movie a thumbs down as soon as Robbie Benson entered, stage left.

Rotoscoped animation used in American Pop. It gives it a fascinating look. Nearly 26 years later we'll get it more advanced in computerized rotoscoping in Richard Linklater's A SCANNER DARKLY.

Not surprising to hear of them disagreeing about the beat/beatnik era.
The final documentary the review sure has interesting narration. I can’t place the voice but I think it was used in the old cartoons

You are correct. That's Paul Frees who did tons of voiceover work: Pink Panther, Rocky & Bullwinkle, the Rankin /Bass specials among many others.

Just remember The Gong Show Movie came out before Barris's "autobiography" where he claimed to be a CIA agent. He was ALWAYS performing, and he was STILL not very good at it.

But Siskel, how could you have a problem with American Pop? It's indisputably the greatest animated movie ever made and structure-wise, it has its fascinating moments. 15:02

Tribute was a tremendous letdown! Directed by Bob Clark who almost always makes bad movies. Rhinestone, Porky's,
Baby Geniuses and Loose Cannons among his many misfires. A Christmas story and Black Christmas were his only great films.

Holy hell, did nobody notice Charlie Chan and his grandson are doing yellowface? Heaven forbid you actually hire Asians for Asian roles. My lord, even the 40s films at least had the number one son be played by a Chinese actor. WTF?
