  • From Beginner to Advanced, we're covering EVERYTHING you need to know about dropshot fishing.
Whether its the first time you're learning how to rig a dropshot setup or you're hoping to understand when a shad shaped bait works better than a straight tail worm, this video is for you.
Tim breaks down the fine details of dropshot fishing including bait selection by category and action, when to use each style, how to rig them, and exactly what gear you'll need to get the best chance at landing the bass you've been looking for. You can watch this video, pick a plastic worm and go catch fish with confidence, or you can jump all the way down the rabbit hole and understand the exact details and adjustments that can turn a good day into an epic day!
Below is a breakdown of all the gear discussed in the video. Tim has organized it by bait style to keep it as simple as possible.

Excellent video. Since this was also for beginners, you should have shown what a drop shot weight looks like and how to rig the hook and weight on your line. There are a couple of tricks to set it up correctly that beginners will not know. Appreciate all the video that you and Matt put together. Keep up the good work. Take Care.

In case you're interested, Tim, the lighting in this video was somewhat low which made what you were showing a little hard to see. Others may not have had a problem but I did. I just thought that I would bring this to your attention. Thanks, however, for another informative upload.

I'm from California. I am very familiar with dropshot...It's probably the only technique I've really perfected and I hate that fact. I'm pretty good on crank baits and swim baits. I want to get better at jigs, but often times I'm getting completely skunked and I go dropshot and then start catching fish. I feel like it's the only thing I have confidence in. I know I'll catch a bass dropshot fishing

G-finesse drop shot hooks are my go to. They are super sharp and I like how the dull finish keeps the hook from reflecting light. One bait that you didn’t mention that kills most swim baits for the drop shot is the Megabass Hazedong shad. Either size. I catch them back to back on those even on a tough day. They work so good I usually lie when people ask me what I’m using. Great video, thanks !

Hey, I live in Colorado and don't have any lakes near by. Pretty much small pond fishing is what is available. Also have a lot of vegetation in the ponds so weedless is a must. Water clarity is pretty good most of the time. Also most ponds are only shore fishing. What baits and methods would you recommend for large mouth.

Really liked your video comparing the worms. I like that you say you fish the baits you recommend. I am still leery of the fact you have sponsors & recommend sponsor baits. We used chompers dropshot worms on our trip. Now I am trying to figure out if I buy the baits you recommend, or the ones we fished with. How many “sponsor” vs non-sponsor baits do you fish?

Not for powershot, but could you use Aldebaran and NRX or Conquest for finesse drop shot? I’m just thinking I use a 7’ MH for worm fishing with 1/8oz Texas rig; same weight and similar worm on drop shot. Are you saying that the spinning rods are that much more sensitive to detect bites over bait casting rods? Is that an oversimplification?

My go to . Dropshot slays fish. Skinny bear makes good dropshot hooks too, combined with a roboworm worm.

Damn! You gave up my secret for catching them on the little local pond which has ridiculous pressure. Coloring the tail of baby bass pattern lures is usually the difference. I can go right behind someone throwing the exact same thing, and that subtle difference will get bites when everyone else is complaining about hauling water.

Another great video, Tim. I am learning a lot watching you and Matt. If I may ask a stupid question please, can a circle hook be used in a drop shot set up? Thank you, and keep up the good work.

Have you guys tried the spin shot, where the hook is on a swivel? What are the pluses and minuses of using this type of setup. Also, my PB came on the morning dawn shad alive, a 9.3

As long as you’re trying differ techniques and finding one that works you’re going great. Don’t get stuck throwing one technique all the time.

You mentioned that depending on the leader size compared to braid, you choose a uni to Uni Knot or a double blood knot. In what specific scenarios would you choose one or the other?

Is there a certain knot you are tieing the hooks on with? Nose hook vs Texas rig? In other words does the knot give the bait more action?

curious about the weights...I see special drop shot weights out there that just "click" onto the line. But you said you tie an overhand knot so you don't lose them??? would a dipsey/bell/casting sinker do the same especially since you tie yours on?
