Yes! We deserve to just have a functional routine and not feel constant trend/product FOMO. And okay, semi-related to all of this I wish more of the brands would start selling bulk/larger bulk options so you're not constantly having to replenish and thus always being shown how many brands/products you might be missing out on? The waste isn't half as necessary as what so many brands are doing.

@@anyamiranda9452 Don't listen to people who say SPF always goes after moistriser!!! Not always. It depends on the spf.
If you’re using a CHEMICAL sunscreen, it needs to be applied FIRST. This is because chemical sunscreen needs to penetrate the skin in order to provide protection. It has active ingredients that penetrate the skin and absorb UV radiation. A layer of a moistruzer will disrupt the product's absorbtion into skin.
If you’re using a physical sunscreen (also known as MINERAL sunscreen), sunscreen should be applied AFTER moisturizer. Mineral spf is made with mineral ingredients, which sit on top of the skin and never penetrate it. They create a barrier between the skin and harmful UV rays which are reflected away. And they obviosuly won't be able to reflect the UV rays if you put moistruzer over them.
      In a nutshell:
      chemical spf - before moistruser
      mineral spf - after moistruser
(P.S. mineral/physical spf is much safer)

Something I hate is when brands want us to be more thoughtful etc, but why can’t they be as well? They come out with sunscreen bottles that are so TINY. Something we need to fight off cancer and to care for the health of our skin… but they sell us tiny 50 ML, 100 ML… bottles that FORCE us constantly have to keep buying them more frequently. The worst part is that they’re EXPENSIVE (then shipping ontop) and all this constant buying doesn’t help our planet. So no, sometimes when brands start talking about “let’s be more mindful” I get upset bc they genuinely don’t care other than making money or else they’d give us more product… let’s be REAL.

I admit I succumbed to the k-beauty buying frenzy particularly on hyped up products by sponsored influencers. As consumers, we do not see the deceptive tactics by aggressive retailers such as #stylekorean etc who lure you with time sensitive crash sales and freebies. Had I known parcels from Asia ( apparently beauty products are used to hide contraband) were hot on the radar of customs control, I would not have made my purchase but they make it seem so easy. Then you find yourself with a custom/carrier fee equalling 25% of your purchase total! When I did the math, I actually spent way more than I saved! Never again. I just started buying makeup and i was disgusted analyzing my reactions when I was in Sephora or Ulta. Like i was getting a high and a need to buy and buy. Like all of my insecurities were coming out with all those products targeting everything under the sun. And mind you, am very confident when it comes to my skin because I have a very good skincare routine that keeps my skin clear and as smooth as skin can look with no makeup involved so am not buying any foundation or countering my face. But am insecure about my under eye wrinkles and the fact that i have the Wednesday Adams eyes for free. Who knew there could be so many products for just those two things and of so many complementary makeup routines. I returned a lot of the stuff that bought and concentrated on buying good quality products that will do more with less and found good UA-camrs promoting drugstore brands that work very well and event better than some high end brands.

I then decided to dive in and educate myself on the science behind skincare ingredients(your channel is one of the many informative sources I learned from 😊) now I can make informed choices on my skincare products and happily skip over overpriced, overhyped items! my skin is better than ever, my wallet is happy, and when I do try out new products I have a good idea of what to expect ❤ skincare can be fun and functional, education to become an informed consumer is so important!

There are times I will stock up on the next item that I'll need in a few weeks or months if I see a good sale, but that's as far as "new products" that I allow myself to buy. I always use the products up within the suggested shelf life (for example, if I buy something in 2022, it will have an expiration date of maybe until 2024, so I'll make sure to use that product up by 2024 and not buy any other product like it until I use it all up.)

A simple mild cleansing foam, a moisturizer with peptides and a sunscreen with great filters for not more than 6€ per piece. All are perfume and alcohol free. Then I have my slightly more expensive retinol serum and my skin is fine. I feel really liberated to stop chasing the latest trends and ingredients and always being afraid of missing out on the best. And I can't see or feel a difference in my skin at all.

I was a bit of a “late bloomer” to the beauty community on UA-cam, discovering it when I was in my early 40s. I went a little nuts at first, buying products. I mean… for context… “nuts” for me is probably not that bad compared to people that are really into this stuff. I think at the most I had 5 eyeshadow palettes, and that seemed ridiculous to me. I’ve scaled back to a real minimum of products. I’m still tempted here and there to buy stuff but remind myself that I already have something very similar (because most of the time I do - we tend to buy the same things over and over again). Also I don’t need a 10 step skin care routine. Just keep it simple and stick to the basics. Also…. With inflation and necessities becoming so expensive, I just can’t justify spending a lot of money on skin care and makeup. I don’t understand how the industry is still doing so well with inflation being what it is.

When I got to my mid 30s I started watching a lot more videos on UA-cam and lived for the TJ Maxx and Marshall's haul videos. I was never someone who bought things at full price but I loved the idea of finding higher end products (anything not available at a drugstore for me is high end) and a reasonable price .I realized though how much crap I was actually buying. Seeing makeup tutorials and videos on "swatching all of colourpop's supershocked shadows" also got me to spend more money.

I had a blast stocking up on a year worth of skincare on black friday, whilst my wallet cried a bit after many months of only consuming necessities and saving money. Not only that but time and time again I've bought products that didn't work on my skin at all, mostly because of hype or the brand, maybe even because I used too many products at once. What Jordan said about knowing your skin type and condition is crucial for finding products that works for you.
Also I did stock up on serums, toners and all that extra stuff, but now I'll probably stop using serums as I kinda see them as unnecessary in my routine after watching this video. As someone who has always struggled with rosacea and skin sensitivity I feel constantly left behind as I cannot try all of these trends and “miracle products” and have to stick with basic simple skincare. I feel like I am often left out of the equation and overwhelmed by pressure to use more “actives” etc that I know my skin can’t tolerate. The truth is my skin looks really good when I just use moisturizer, facewash, and sunscreen! Thank you for being the breath of fresh air!

I don't wear make-up 99% of the time. I only put on some foundation and lipstick if I have to go to any major event like someone's wedding etc. Only women ask me why don't I wear make-up and tell me I should start. They think it's weird. I don't say anything but I look at them and I feel really bad that they don't have the confidence to step outside the house without make-up. It's a sad reality of our society that the first thing noticed about a woman are her looks and then everything else comes later. I get skin care products and some of them are really useful but make-up products are a nono. If you are thinking of quitting make-up just do it no matter how weird it feels. Be free of it and you will see all the BS.

This is an incredibly important video. It reminds us of common sense. I really thought i didn’t do enough for my skin because i don’t do all these many serums. But actually the most important thing is to cleansing, moisturizing and sunscreen.
I do one additional serum for fun and self-treating, but i don’t feel like missing out on something.
Instead i rely on my skin‘s ability to repair itself as you said.
    Thank you. ❤

in one way I think if it woudn't be such an accessive amount of new product pushed into our face every sec we'd still looking for the next best thing at least that's what I do always scrolling the new arrivals section just because I like to try new things but yes it is too much and I really hate when a brand trying to sell something on a ridicolous price with promised results that might never come. This was a good video. Not going to lie though, I thought it would be focused a lot more on packaging and makeup. I see so many makeup lines from drugstore to department stores just making new packaging for eyeshadow palettes (for example) but using either identical or nearly identical eyeshadows in them to sell. I mean I get it...there's only so many shades of brown, purple, and blue that one can make but it's just so overly done that I really wonder why people continue to fall for it. Colourpop does it, Makeup Revolution does it, Pur does it, Dos of Colors does it, etc. I started to realize all the makeup companies coming out with products described as new (like you mentioned) that were just renamed. I saw this was BB creme and CC creme...they are tinted moisturizers but given a different name to make people think this is different and not something they already have. With hair there is nothing no one can say that can make me believe that a leave it conditioning spray is no different than a detangler or leave in treatment spray.

i stopped buying into skincare / beauty products years ago. Stripped down to the basics and really - just gave up and couldn't keep up with the market/trends. I couldn't even finish something before something new came out - it can take me like 5-10 years to even hit empty on makeup so I couldn't understand how some people could have so much stuff in their collection if it took me that long to go through 1 item!

Thank for this video, we don't speak anought about the cosmetic fast fashion, which can be very polluting and mostly useless like all fast fashion things.
Just the part about fear against some ingredients is more complicated than "they create fear to sell more expensive".
I live in France so we can compare both cosmetics regulations. In Europe, cosmetic regulation is way more protective toward consumers. It's very directive and leaves very little room to manufacturers by establishing a lot of restrictions, and USA is more litigious, letting freedom to demonstrate the safety of an ingredient, leading to some abuses.
UE regulates everything on cosmetic. More than 2000 materials are regulated (only 11 for USA), marketing, labeling, nanomaterials etc. You even have to notifiate your cosmetic product to a centralized poison center (CPNP) if you want to sell it. There all always debate which conducte to regulate or not an ingredient, for example, Salicylic Acid and derivates are actually on discuss, to be considered CMR2 or not (cancerogenic, mutagenic and toxic to reproduction number 2, meaning suspected).
Maybe USA got influence from UE consumers, because we ask for a lot of safety about chemicals, because it's the way we act. And ingredients manufacturers play this role too, always looking to improve their products !

I've a lot more despite not being a skincare influencer or CEO. I've seen people with more than me, it isn't about getting that skin that I desire because I have never been one to care about beauty. It is about the kick of buying and opening the parcels. A lot of products ended up on my body because there is so much more skin real estate on the body. I used to tell myself I am buying before the 8% import tax kicked in on 1 Jan 2023, I am waiting to see whether that will stop me. Good luck to me.

I put some products from Krave beauty website in my cart and filled in email address and shipping address but did not complete my order as I questioned if I really needed the items. Shortly after I received an email prompting me to complete my order, saying “Don’t you know it’s not polite to leave me hanging like that?”. Is that not fueling consumerism?

Most people only need face wash, moisturizer and sunscreen. Niacinamide, Vit c, retinoids aka vit B3, C, A, are better off being consumed in your diet on a long term basis. And reserve retinol, retinoic acid for grade 3 or cystic acne.

This is great but I want to point out that using actives near the eyes can be problematic so I do use a retinal eye cream because it has a lower amount of retinal (compared to the one I use on the rest of my face) to avoid eye irritation. So if you want to use an active near the eyes it makes sense to use one made for the eye area.

    • @p0nyslove

I eat up my food before I go shopping for more. Why would I just eat a tiny little bit of some thing and then go get more of it? It wasn’t until I started thinking this way that I stop shopping and actually started using what I have. I limit my exposure to product videos whether it be skin care, make up, or fashion. If I rotate through what I have to use it up and help me feel like I’m using something new when I get the urge to shop or use something else. I keep an active wish list of products that I am genuinely interested in, but I don’t buy them until I’ve run out of something in that category and actually need something more. Sometimes, I actually will lose interest in the thing on my wish list or I decide that what I am using already works really well for me and I just re-purchase.
