This performance was conducted by the Maestro in early December 1987 (not 1984 as mentioned) with the Boston Pops Esplanade Orchestra in Suntory Hall in Tokyo, Japan. How do I know? Because I'm the bearded French horn player in the video.
@@tinieblo76 It was always great fun playing for John, even more when playing his music with him. The orchestra always seemed to play at top level when he conducted. He treated musicians with respect, unlike his successor, who scowled whenever he heard a mistake. When the Pops played for the Democratic National Convention in Boston in 2004, the Pops played three concerts - two with John, one with Lockhart. My wife attended all three concerts, and she said it was like listening to an entirely different group.
You can literally see the respect that John Williams has for this great orchestra that he has the pleasure to conduct. Made up of some of the worlds finest musicians, they were born to be there... it was their destiny. He conducts it at a brisker tempo than some and that is ( obviously) how it is supposed to be played. They all keep up admirably and the result is a marvel, equal to any Mozart or Handel offering, actually for me this is even better!! A living legend. We should all remember this moment... It is going to be up there with the greatest musical moments of all time.
I close my eyes and suddenly a 7 year old boy is taken by his father to share a moment. That moment is so engraved in his memories that even after 40 years have passed, still at this moment some tears ran down. Then I open my eyes and I am taking my 8 years old boy to close the cycle to share exactly the same moment. Thanks dad!!!
DartMort You have just made my day. Hope your father is in a better place right now. It's moments like these which portray how momentary and interconnected our lives are, and how its these small things which create lasting memories. God Bless you.
@@Shre_k__ Thanks. I said 40 years but thank God he still alive. It is just that special moment he shared with me and how the music is a time machine bringing memories.

This composition brings tears to my eyes. I’ve been a Star Wars fan since I was a kid. Someone said it, but without this music the movies just wouldn’t have been what they are.
John Williams, such a musical genius. I really like him. I was in college when Star Wars was shown. Still listening amidst the pandemic for my antidote against stress & boredom. July 24,2020
It is my humble opinion that this is the single most loved and remembered piece of music ever written. This man is one of the most consistently excellent composers in musical history, again in my humble opinion.
Whenever I went to the movies to see star wars I get goosebumps when it said a long time a go in a galaxy far far away then black then the star wars logo pops up that's when john Williams music kicks in.
Dont forget about the countless set desingners, puppeteers, visual effects teams and model builders who poured their soul and time to make these movies possible.
There will always be three greats in Cinematic Music. John Williams. Jerry Goldsmith. James Horner. With these three greats, there are no comparisons. They are all incredible! That's all that needs to be said.
I beg you pardon! What about Ennio Morricone, to me (and many others) he's te greatest composer of film music ever. He deserves to fill in the first place on the american film academy top 25 of film composers. His scores for spaghetti westerns (and others like 'the mission') are unforgettable. Americans are too patriotic
Guys we could go on forever because you all missed so many more prolific film composers. That being said, you're all awesome because you understand and recognize the talent and hard work that goes into film scoring.
I saw this movie when it first came out. I didn't realize how epic this piece of music was until a couple of years later. Me and fellow Marine went to a big stereo show at the Hollywood Sheraton and we walked into a room where it was being played on the most fantastic stereo system I had heard. It was pure magic.

This is totally majestic. For me it does sound from the movie itself. I’m always been a huge fan of Star Wars since my childhood days and even the last movie released.
