I absolutely adored this man ,early days as a ST holder,Jürgen and Teddy were phenomenal
It was my second season as a young season ticket holder at City (I’ve still got it to this day!). We had a great 5-2 win over Spurs and a lot was made over the new Spurs ‘foreign’ contingent at the time. Remember Jurgen getting brought down by Dibble for a pen early on and getting a load of stick from the fans for ‘diving’! 😅
@TheMagicianBee he was class .The sheff wed dive celebration was superb
@@TheMagicianBeeeven though he actually got taken out.
Plus Dumitrescu & Gheorghe Popescu the spurs fans must have thought the eighties glory days where coming back
@jamesbrowne7601 and we didn't do anything with them either😂😂😂 Dumitrescu I loved
Summer of ‘94. What a great time for Football. I remember this transfer so clearly. Was great to have him in the Premiership. Who remembers the 4-3 away game against Sheffield Wednesday? Klinsmann was such a good player. Would be interesting to see how much guys like him, Bergkamp, Baggio, Romario (that generation) would go for now. Would put the modern players to shame.
💯
His celebration against Sheff Wed had us all diving about the field after we scored. 9 year old at the time 👍
Was that the game David Hirst scored a screamer ?
@@SM-mz2hzsame with the “Klinsmann”s! 😂
God football was fun back then.
@@RichRobinson
It was mate. Plenty of memories.
If you blasted one in off the bar, it was a “Yeboah” 😂
no offense to Klinsmann, Bergkamp and Baggio but Romario was a level above them
Alan Sugar showed more ambition in this one transfer than Levy and ENIC have in over 23 years!
Agree on that side.. van de vaart was top notch tho
Sugar also got David Ginola
One of the things you can't hold against Alan Sugar lol
People really look back with rose tinted glasses 😂 spurs were shocking when Alan sugar owned them, highest we finished was 7th in those 10 years but mostly finished in the bottom half of the table. ENIC take us to champions league football finish second in the league and build one of the best stadiums in Europe and you have the cheek to say they have no ambition 😂 some spurs fans need to give their head a wobble.
@@Cookgwanasome still can’t smell the coffee 😂
What a stunning transfer and what an incredible striker. He lit up the league and drove around London in a mini! Legend
I remember going to buy a red top on the way to work. I flipped over to see the back page….and I nearly passed out!! I hadn’t even left the shop yet! Utter disbelief that we had signed Klinsmann. What an absolute exciting moment and something great to look forward to after the dross the season before.
As a fan of Jürgen Klinsmann way before he went to Tottenham, I couldn’t believe it. It was amazing news.
I remember being 8 years old and my brother running up the stairs to tell me Spurs had signed Klinsmann and I thought he was winding me up...then checking Football on Teletext and seeing the headline 'Klinsmann signs for Tottenham' splashed across the top of the page. I don't think I have ever been as excited about a new signing since even though we've had some great players at Spurs. Shame not much silverware the past 30 years since!
I remember watching klinsman single handedly knocking my beloved liverpool out the f.a cup at anfield. He was a joy to see despite the result...
same as Liverpool supporter but it was such a pleasure to watch Klinsmann played in this league.
What a player for the club and the league as well! Gave us great memories of the time.
You didn’t win anything though and he got out of there as soon as he could.
@@unusedsub3003 I've won a fair few awards in my field and gonna win more, unlike many losers like you. Credit to your second half, he did the right thing.
Ah man, what a great season - 1994 - 95...good to see Nicky Barmby in this video too. One of my favourite players!
Best striker i've ever seen live he made the game look effortless, i was at his last game for Spurs in his first spell against Leeds 1-1 draw , was gutted as we had sold Popescu the day before to Barcelona so he didn't play.
I do wish or hope that more documentaries like this are made to capture these stories and immortalise them, hate to sound morbid but a lot of the stars from the 80s and 90s are getting on now and stories/facts die and disappear with them
Klinsman will always be a PL legend in my eyes. Great advert for the game in this country.
Hard to believe that this will be 31 years ago this summer.
The last time we actually signed a world class player at the peak of his powers, a genuinely jaw dropping transfer. Klinsmann signed with no European football, as well as a -12 points deduction & being out of the F.A cup (both overturned later) but still joined us.
Way before the game changing stadium and being one of the richest football clubs in the planet. The lies Levy has fed us and continues to do so.
Really hope that a majority of the Spurs fans see what's happening and take action.
WE COULD DO WITH HIM FOR THE NORTH LONDON DERBY
Spot on Brian 👊🏻
Not a Spurs fan so my knowledge of players wont be as good as one going back to 94 but found the part you mentioned him being the last peak of their powers world class player interesting. I have tried thinking back over the last 20 years and honestly I can think of some world class players but not signed as such and at their peak like Modric and Bale for instance. Is there anyone who would come close to that though?
Agreed Briannnnnnnnnnnnn
@@partyblue9 there is only one that comes close to the level Klinsmann was at when signing at Spurs was Rafa Van Der Vaart
I can't believe his English was that impeccable before even spending any time over here. German's are incredible linguists
German’s?
Not necessarily Germans. I'm pretty sure Jurgen speaks 7 languages, though.
To be fair, most Europeans speak English very well. Probably because it's the international language and most countries teach it at school.
If this is a Sky documentary why didnt they show a video of his goal and celebration against Sheffield Wednesday rather than a photo
Said the same aloud!
So they can show this overseas, wouldn’t be able to if there was match footage.
I'm 39 yrs old, and this was honestly the last time I was excited to hear about a tottenham transfer. It's gutting to see what Levy and Co are doing to our club.
Billion pound stadium.. one of few clubs to actually make a profit. I would say doing pretty good. Why would you expect a football club to spend more than they make? You wouldn’t expect that in any other walk of life! It’s a joke. Champions league final. You see what arsenal are doing now but they too had to have years of austerity to pay for a stadium. But idiots will never understand that
Really interesting series, hopefully sky do more episodes.
How ironic that it was Arsene Wenger who sold Klinsman to spurs lol man i was such a fan of Klinsman!! I have a 94 WC Germany Klinsman jersey rn in my collection & it's my 2nd favorite to my Baggio Italy 94
only God knew that Wenger will end up going to Arsenal 2 years later lol
Two iconic jerseys you got there man, now you're only missing the Romario and Bebetto's 94 world cup jerseys.
One of the greatest premier league players ever
Remember this like it was yesterday! Was on holiday in Greece and saw it in a newspaper and couldn't believe it. Great signing and what a player.
Anderton was out for 2 months after climbing over that fence 19:01 🤣
Very good lol
Sicknote
One of the very best 80's/90's strikers. World Class.
Love these Transfer 360s. Keep em coming!
I remember being so excited about him coming to the England and I have never been a fan of spurs.
He was such an exciting player and so likeable.
I am an Arsenal fan
But I enjoyed watching Klinsmann when he was at Spurs… the “dive” celebration was hilarious
Jürgen, the only german player that I like/liked, is one of the 3 reasons I fell in love with Tottenham. Biggest reason actually.
I was so happy and proud to see him play. His movement was amazing. He could lose three players with one drop of the shoulder to Spurs legend.
My hero growing up.
We need a signing like that now, Levy.
Good luck with that 😂
They can't attract a guy like him now. No big massive wages and massive price tags
I'm 52 and I still can't understand Ossie.
I never could
I have only cried twice over football and both of those times were as a child when my father told me Klinsmann had left Spurs and the second time was when Argentina beat England in 98. Man I loved Klinsmann.
He elevated the Prem
COYS. I remember back then seeing the news story in a newspaper and being shocked and excited. It was huge news and seemed to be very exciting times for the club. Sadly whilst Klinsmann and Sheringham were an excellent pairing, the team failed to achieve what was hoped.
now we got a bunch of crap like porro, johnson, dragusin and werner. id even shove kulu in there. We should be signing players like Ruben dias, bruno fernandes, dybala, lautaro martinez. instead we got crap 20m players
@harrybutler12-e5k we should've really pushed for EZE, Gibbs-White, Gallagher, ward-prowse, bowen, Toney and a experienced world class no.6. Hell going on form and what he showed at Luton I'd even sign Barclay. And a shout out to Chris Wood. Not saying we'd have got them all, but they are the players we should be looking at. Consistent proven P.L quality.
All this building b.s - are we Arteta /Arsenal and wait 10 years to see the fruits of this 'building'... we need NOW not looking 3 4 years down the line.
To be fair Forest are doing the business this season. Shame we have a bunch of failures.
Also, I do think Solanke was a good signing. He'd have been on my recruitment list.
@harrybutler12-e5k Pedro Porro and Kulusevski are both very good players.
@@eldante4139 porro cant defend. the only good game he played was against liverpool on wednesday and he missed 2 easy chances.
@harrybutler12-e5k I only remember one missed chance that arose from Bergvall pressing Alisson. That wasn’t an easy chance although he could have scored it.
His passing is excellent. He has high work rate and doesn’t stop running which is a key attribute for our players. He averages 1.9 tackles per game which is our joint 4th highest. He has exceeded his Premier League xG with 2 goals scored from 1.26 xG so he can’t be that poor at finishing although of course those are both low numbers. He has 4 assists for us in the league which is the joint second highest. Overall he’s a very good player who with a bit of rest when required, which he hasn’t always been afforded, could become even better. Stats were taken from the Whoscored website. I think you give too much criticism to him when he’s a very good player.
He was a great Germans striker and a great coach. I have his no 18 Germany jersey with me from 98 till now 2025 inside my wardrobe
Klinsmann Ginola Cantona Bergkamp Zola made the Premier league in the 90s so exciting to watch.
I don’t see a player in the Prem anywhere near as exciting as those 5.
Kinkladze, 😂. Baller
Duncan ferguson
Didn’t Alan sugar say he wouldn’t even was his car with his shirt after he left the club
The actual programme on Sky had all the footage. Just saw it. Brilliant. I love him.
The transfer that madd me a Spurs supporter. Thank you for the backstory and archival footage.
Only german ive ever liked he left us once came back saved us from relegation once he cant come back and save us now he will b spurs manager one dayvone of my favourites every
Up there as happiest memories as spurs supporter. Hope, optimism. Mostly because of him. Legend
Had the privilege of seeing the klinner in action for Tottenham..the guy just floated across the pitch! brilliant!
The amount of us that tore holes in the knees of our trousers in the school playground doing a Klinsmann after scoring is just a small piece of proof of how iconic Klinsmann was. It was the first season I can really remember, so I didn't appreciate at the time just how seismic the signing was. Always a Spurs legend.
JK legendary..❤
It's rare for one player to make such a difference. His contribution was so important at a time when things were not going too well.
World class player still cant remember a signing on this scale ever since at spurs
I remember being so blown away that we’d signed Klinnsman good times!
Jürgen was one of those players any football fan, no matter who you support you loved to watch. Different class of player.
I remembered Klinsmann driving his small car in London......Volkswagen...??
We loved him....and we still do. COYS
Take a look at thetop goalscorers list for that season in the prem, the quality of stiker compared to the dull pep infused system based football now is remarkable
My favorite ever spurs signing
More than Gazza?
@christopherludlam1602 for me yes...loved Gazza my all time fav but signing Klinsmann at that time was unreal
I still to this day cannot believe we got this man, it’s one of those rare good things happen to my club. Thank you Alan Sugar for getting him!
I was 18 and remember it so well / still have that Holsten shirt and I remember the summer tournament at the lane I attended with my auntie and grandmother - still have picture. It was a real authentic football stadium the Lane
Gica Popescu was class!
He was. I went to Spurs at Blackburn that season. We went 2-0 down at half time and Popescu was put back into centre defence from midfield and Shearer didn't get a sniff in the second half Popescu totally marked him out of the game. Shame he didn't like the Premier league and bolted to Barca.
I was 17 then, what a team we had!! Lol We were still very Spursy mind.👊🫶🇬🇧
What an amazing signing for Spurs, world class. I remember he totally lit up White Hart Lane. COYS
Ossie Ardilles , the very reason I follow Spurs . Love that man !! COYS !!!
Last world class signing Spurs made
Nice man and what a boost when Spurs signed Jurgen.
Apart from being a great footballer and ambassador for sport, you can tell he's also a decent genuine human.
What a player 👏👏
The influx of magical foreign players made things exciting. As a kid in the 90s, every kid wanted to be a Cantona, Bergkemp or a Klinsman on the field pickup games. We started to get big players that were more commonly seen in the Serie A. Truly a magical time in the 90s when EPL started
Love to see Jugan as the manger off Spurs one day 💯
One of the reasons i chose to support Spurs. Legend.
My hero when I was 8, legend💪🏻💪🏻💪🏻
Genuine Guy
I remember the day. Little me was so excited Jurgen was going to play for my team. Don't think they've signed a top, world renowned player in his prime since.
What a player💥
Great player, Great man!
Was a great player I still can’t believe spurs signed him once let alone twice
The reason I started following spurs, my childhood hero! Haha not sure if that’s done me any good lol
Legendary signing & a part of Prem folklore that is often forgotten…
Fabulous football and soccer player of Germany.❤🎉😊.
who hasn't tried the dive celebrations when we were kids.
Was at his first game was great times
I was at the Leicester vs Tottenham game when Spurs were playing the front 5 with Klinsmann etc...crazy
one of the best high-profile player (in the 90s) that ever came to the English League…
Funny how we was tryna sign players like maradona and then signed klinsmann… wow how far we’ve fallen as a club…
I follow Spurs BECAUSE of that signing. I'm Irish and didn't really have a Premier League club. I did like Villa because they had some Irish players but I decided to support Tottenham because signing Klinsmann was a huge coup at the time. It's pretty hilarious that Sugar essentially trapped him with the camera crew move.
My favourite Spurs players
1. Paul Gascoigne
2. Jurgen Klinsmann
3. Gareth Bale
4. Harry Kane
What a player
Legend 18 ❤
Good memories - shame they didn't put any actual game footage in though (and weird considering it's a Sky Sports Premier League documentary!)
I like these stories, people learn about history in football. I like the story of Alan Ball in 1996 where he was manager of Manchester City and due to the wrong information being passed around, they got relegated thinking they were safe during the game.
I was along with many people sceptical about Jürgen Klinsmann and his ability to perform in the Premier League, he had this false reputation of a diver, he was German, and back then he wasn’t the most popular person in England, but there was an element of respect About him. Very quickly Jürgen Klinsmann became the new foreign import darling of the Premier League, not only was his football beautiful but his command of the English language was eloquent, a fantastic signing, a brilliant story… tho I must add to this vignette a journalist asked Gerry Francis at the time. How is Jürgen Klinsmann English? GF responded with the quip, Jürgen’s English has always been perfect, but since he’s joined the club, Nick Barmby’s English has improved… fantastic stuff 😅😅
GOAT Team Korea Head Coach ❤
Unfortunately, his spell as Korean coach ended badly thanks to dressing room issue with Son Heung-min (ironically, one of the best Spurs footballer).
Harry Harris wrote a great book about this
Now do Chelsea's 1996/97 Italian Revolution
Great player
I remember this I was 14
That agent knows how to make a deal!
Surely Sky can show the actual games footage?
The last time Tottenham signed a truly world class player in his prime.
Shame Levy or the ownership will never have the vision or sense to sign world class players. You’re only as strong as your ownership.
I remember the club shop
35 years on & I still well up with Pearce, Waddle & later Southgate missing penalties
I was there at Sheff Wed.. Shame this doc couldn't show the goal and dive..😂
He looks so young
He was in his prime and a global star - has Levy bought a star in his prime yet?
Great time for a Tottenham Fan………. Jurgen, Teddy, Nicky B, the 2 Romanians and Ossie in charge…… wish it would have worked and it might have done with Gerry Francis in charge. The team that dared to do!
