Totally agree, but I just hope she isn't toooo old now for the part. This was recorded 25 years ago and people's voices change. The movie will be huge regardless :)
I'm so honored to have seen this glorious production three times at the Shubert Theater in Los Angeles in 1994. Unfortunately the Shubert Theater on the Avenue of the Stars is gone.
For my 29th birthday my sister and brother-in-law bought me front row center orchestra seat to the pre-broadway run in LA. The entire cast was fantastic.
OMG!!!! This is amazing!!! I have been looking for a full clip of Glenn Close doing "The Perfect Year" for a long time. Thank you so much for uploading it!!!!
The level of excellence of Glenn is something never seen before...I love her singing voice...Alan was amazing too. Run to see this before June 25th on B'way!
Thanks a million times for posting this clip. Glenn Close is phenomenal, a force with which to reckon. Her interpretation of Norma Desmond is spot on! I only wish I were wealthy enough to have seen this astounding performance live. Some comments have noted that Ms, Close was not musically adequate however, I disagree emphatically; her superlative acting talent moots any vocal limitations. I didn't notice any though.
I was lucky enough to see Glenn in the LA production 3 times before the move to NYC. I had a friend in the cast and was alerted to closing night prior to the announcement. Ms. Close was, and IS, amazing. No one compares.
Darling I don't think the ciritcs choices should be respected nc at the end it's all political. But since a new dawn it's coming j hope new critics come to show real critical opinion. Not just political.
I can't imagine achieving that astonishing level of talent. Glenn Close is superb in all facets of her craft, hopefully she recognizes the JOY she brings to so many. She is a treasure. Thank you miss Close.
OMG, THANK YOU ~ Next to Carol's "DOLLY!", this was the finest musical I'd ever seen on Broadway! Close was perfection - easily the best choice "Norma". - Just saw her "return" to the role this past April ... still a force to be reckoned with - DOES the entire show exist in this great quality? - Thank you, again!
I believe this is Kevin Anderson playing Joe Gillis in the NY production. Alan Campbell played him in the LA production. I remember that day so clearly: It was the final night of the L.A. run and every performance up until that night was sold out. As luck (or a miracle) would have it, I ended up getting "scalped" for a single, front row mezzanine seat. Missing that show would have been the ultimate crime. And to top it off, the Shubert Theater and complex has since been demolished (so sad). So many great memories of shows at that theater.
Kevin Anderson left the show before the infamous firing of Patti LuPone from the original London production. He didn't the chance to play Joe on Broadway.
Alan Campbell did both LA and NY. The only one to not make the transfer was Judy Kuhn, because she got pregnant. Therefore, Alice Ripley stepped in for her.

muscle25ftl This is clearly the Best Broadway Musical I ever saw while I didn't see the original production due to the fact I was born 8 months before it opened in November of 1994 23 year later I finally see it on Broadway in this Acclaimed Revival and it was the best musical I ever experienced on Broadway! HIGHLY RECOMMEND TO ALL BROADWAY FANS WHO WERE BORN IN 1994 should go see this magnificent revival before it departs June 25th 😀
Does this recording by any chance have With One Look and As if We Never Said Goodbye. I think this is definitely the best recording I have seen of Glenn.
Glenn Close is good but I was lucky enough to see Patty Lupone in previews in London where this show was first put on stage. She was superb! Kevin Anderson played Joe and was great as well.
In fairness to Patti Lupone, Glenn Close was just a better actor for the role. I love Patti’s voice- but Glenn conveys more vulnerability and pathos. The producers did the right thing.
@@GiftSparksI couldn’t agree more. I saw the stripped down revival 7 years ago and Glenn was magnificent!! She gave the character Norma a dimension that Gloria Swanson couldn’t. I actually felt sympathetic to Norma. Gloria portrayed her as crazy and eccentric. Where Glenn’s interpretation you actually realized that Norma was a product of an industry that shunned her hopes and dreams
This scene, and EVERY Scene there-after slides into Sad, Buffoonery of a Histrionic performance. No, Miss Glenn--you are neither seductive nor up to the Acting skill needed to pull-off such a neurotic/schizo characterizations....Carol Burnett did a better and funnier job.
Who else is here after seeing this on Broadway in 2024 🥺 I can’t get enough
Me ❤ i Love she
Time for Glenn to make the movie version of this and finally win an Oscar.
Totally agree, but I just hope she isn't toooo old now for the part. This was recorded 25 years ago and people's voices change. The movie will be huge regardless :)
I am agree with you 😍👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼 i saw her in Broadway in 2016... Still incredibile ❤️
@@jonsa270Well, they could use the studio recording 🤷🏻♂️
I cried when Olivia won the oscar and not Glenn.
True
❤I was there. Saw this fantastic original production, visiting NY from Miami Beach, Fla. ❤Fantastic Glenn Glose❤love from Finland
Glenn Close is magnific 😍

I love their tango. I had the privilege of seeing this back in the early 90.s when it first came to L.A.
I saw it there as well, it was magnificent 🎉
I hope they film the new Australian production with Sarah Brightman.
Wonderful to listen to & to watch. Makes me cry every time. I love the orchestral arrangement....x
Saw the broadway revival yesterday! It was perfect! I'm in love with Glenn Close😍 she owns it.
OMG!!!! This is amazing!!! I have been looking for a full clip of Glenn Close doing "The Perfect Year" for a long time. Thank you so much for uploading it!!!!
That play and Glenn were the best.
The level of excellence of Glenn is something never seen before...I love her singing voice...Alan was amazing too. Run to see this before June 25th on B'way!

Sheilah Ballard i got to see Petula Clark play Nora....she was beyond amazing

Its a musical for goodness sake not an opera. Her voice is expressive nd carry the melody well. Its all that matters. Her acting skills .....
Darling I don't think the ciritcs choices should be respected nc at the end it's all political. But since a new dawn it's coming j hope new critics come to show real critical opinion. Not just political.
What I wouldn't give to see Glenn in Sunset Boulevard.
She is on Bway until June
Same
I did, but still wish i had seen lupone. Buckley was ok, elaine Paige had the voice, but too sane.
Glen Close pretty perfect in every way.
Glenn Close is by far the best Norma.
He IS very pretty.....!!
I have seen this musical with three different Norma Desmonds. Glenn Close gave by far the best interpretation of the role.
I also saw them, thou I loved Glen, Betty Buckley moved me to tears.
I can't imagine achieving that astonishing level of talent. Glenn Close is superb in all facets of her craft, hopefully she recognizes the JOY she brings to so many. She is a treasure. Thank you miss Close.
Absolutely magnificent.
Saw them live in NY years ago and LOVED IT!
I did not know she could sing - great.
omg, she is amazing ❤
THANK YOU FOR POSTING THIS. I ENJOY IT VERY MUCH.

Perfect, love it!

Does anyone have the full show? I saw this on Broadway with Glenn in 94! Unforgettable!

I got my tickets to see this on Broadway in February! Can't wait.
muscle25ftl ....feel sorry for me...give ME your ticket. M x
it extended until June...the best thing I have seen on Broadway in years. Don't miss it. I've seen it twice already.

muscle25ftl I saw it 4 times including closing night. Ugh. It could run forever
Perfeita ❤️❤️
Glen is so over do for a oscar!!
Has anyone the full show with Glenn for trade? :)
Glenn Close is so underated its not fair. Personally Streep is highly overated and is unfathomable why she gets nominated every year.
Thank you SO MUCH for sharing! Is there anyway you can upload the whole show?
"As If We Never Said Goodbye" is truncated in this recording. They cut off a few lines unfortunately...
This is the unedited footage used to create the press reels. ;)
Does this recording by any chance have With One Look and As if We Never Said Goodbye. I think this is definitely the best recording I have seen of Glenn.
Listened through the cds on NYE. Is there a full video for this show? I saw a version w/ Petula Clark.
Class.
Do you have the whole show on DVD?
Glenn Close is good but I was lucky enough to see Patty Lupone in previews in London where this show was first put on stage. She was superb! Kevin Anderson played Joe and was great as well.
do you have footage from this recording of New Ways To Dream? I would love to see that!
Is this the same Alan Campbell that played EZ Taylor in three's a crowd?
Yup!
You remember that show, but you don't know that M*A*S*H is off the air?
...and the floating house.
Would you be so kind as to tell me where this video came from? Why the 30-minute press reel I got has only part of the scenes?
Ummm it didn't turn out to be a perfect year for Joe or Norma, did it?
Let’s hope 2021 will be better!
How could anyone compare this with the Jayme Lloyd atrocity?.
May I know where I can purchase the dvd of Sunset Boulevard on stage?
where?
I wanted to hate her in this because of the lupone situation, but she was great. A bit over the top, but she converted me.
In fairness to Patti Lupone, Glenn Close was just a better actor for the role. I love Patti’s voice- but Glenn conveys more vulnerability and pathos. The producers did the right thing.

Is that the ending?
No, this is towards the end of the first act.
If Glenn Close married Alan Campbell she'd be...Glenn Campbell!
She is a LEGENT!
I. Can't. Sing. With. One. Look. Like. Her. Big. Thumb

Glen is good but this is Patti's roll
This scene, and EVERY Scene there-after slides into Sad, Buffoonery of a Histrionic performance. No, Miss Glenn--you are neither seductive nor up to the Acting skill needed to pull-off such a neurotic/schizo characterizations....Carol Burnett did a better and funnier job.
Fuck off.
She was over the top and that makeup, but she had me on my feet at the end. Quite a performance.
You have no idea.
