I am getting worried that more and more good old Mercs are getting destroyed. I never thought of it that way until I started watching this channel. Thanks for the message! I see SO many people here in SA tearing up the W123s for parts. I need to buy one again asap.

I always try to encourage everyone to love and take great care of these amazing machines. I’d love to be like that M539 Restorations guy. He restores a lot of old school BMWs to immaculate factory conditions and he has lots of public attention. Unfortunately my channel isn’t good enough I guess. But I’ll try to keep going. I just saved a W124 from the junkyard and currently sorting it out and fixing lots of things on it. Let’s encourage others to do the same.

You are doing pretty good, don't put yourself down! M539 Restorations has a unique formula that not many people can emulate. What matters is that work that goes into serious, committed repair and maintenance of older cars is elevated and appreciated.
My repair channel for BMW E32's is tiny, barely 1.8k subscribers over three years. But when I get a comment from a guy in Iraq who managed to replace the fuel pump on his E32 using my video, that's all the reward I need. Doing good is good in itself, it doesn't need an extra cherry on top.

    Pierre,
Thank you, thank you, thank you for this video and for defending the STOCK Classic Mercedes Benz cars and their owners. As you rightly pointed out, there are a limited number of the cars available (around the world). The stock condition of a Classic Mercedes is it's signature, it's DNA, it's raison d'etre. You are therefore right again when you say that changing a classic Mercedes Benz is akin to converting it into an ordinary car! It is NOT an ordinary car!! We therefore must preserve them as they were designed and made.
I've made and continue to make great sacrifices to restore my classic Mercedes Benz's so I really appreciate your recognition of us STOCK restorers.
    Bryan.

I've been making a project of restoring my 1977 Mercedes 280E with an M110.984 engine. I wouldn't do it myself, but with the dearth of parts and information, I can understand why people would be inclined to put a modern engine in a classic Mercedes just because it's the easy way to do it. Again, not that I'm planning on doing that, but it's definitely been a challenge to get information on the m110.
All that is my way of saying that this is my plea to you and anyone else out there to make more videos on Mercedes inline 6 gassers! 😊🙏🏻
Thanks as always for your channel!

I've got a W115 240D that I've owned for a few months now. Even in the short time I've owned it, I've already had a few people try to tell me that it needs to be slammed or swapped. Absolutely not. It completely ruins the usability, practicality, ride quality, and general class level of the car. Remember, Mercedes-Benz had some of the best auto engineers in the world at the time. They designed the car exactly how it needs to be. With proper care and maintenance it'll be a reliable car that will take you anywhere you want to go, far or near.

I have a W108 here in England, in my area there is not another example to be seen, people love this car. It's standard, as the good Lord in Stuttgart intended. It runs sweet on its twin Zeniths (not those Weber thingy's), no rattles, over engineered I know, but this is the benefit many decades later. My point is, why do you like any of the classic models?... don't change anything keep it original where possible. MB knew best, it'll never be a modern car, and that's the point.

If you don't have the skills, hire those who specialize, if you don't have the money, buy a newer home that doesn't contain historic details NOT meant to be destroyed but preserved. Thank God for the established historic districts and properties we do have.

While I understand restoring cars, I also really like resto-mods that improve a car and make it better than before. I have a 1992 W201 2.3 8v that if the engine ever lets go in it, I have zero intention of putting another slow and mediocre mpg engine back in. It would likely get something that has better power and economy, mated to a transmission that has more than 4 gears. Other than that, it would be built to be a driver that is better than the original, easier to find parts and cheaper to attain those parts. I almost feel like you wouldn't care about that though, as I have rarely seen you even acknowledge the W201, making me think you don't even like them. Maybe I've missed some of your content if you have, but it just feels like you don't respect the W201 for some reason. Yeah I get that there are much 'cooler' and rarer Mercedes out there than what was essentially an entry level car, but after working on them, I can definitely tell they were built to a higher standard than any other car I've worked on before (which is mostly Japanese and American cars with some VWs and the sort mixed in there), so it's definitely still got that Mercedes feel to it and makes me understand why people like Mercedes so much, especially classic Mercedes cars.
When it comes down to it though, there are hack restoration jobs out there whether they are true to stock or resto-modded. Do people that restore cars to factory spec deserve more respect than they get? Absolutely. However, someone that does a good resto-mod shouldn't just be talked bad about, simply because they want a car that is better than it was and don't see the point in the novelty of having a car that is factory spec in comparison. Especially when restoring it to factory spec is objectively less enjoyable to drive than what a resto-modders vision for the car is. In my book, quality work is quality work, regardless of whether it is something I like or not.

You need to retitle this video & really push it. Perhaps a direct response video to Icon. The fact that there is only a finite number of these gems left is the BOTTOM LINE. I haven't had the stomach to see that video on the 108 modified by ICON. In addition to Jonathan Wart being insufferable, the idea of them taking one and reengineering it with generic parts and a Chevy engine is just impossible to pass. I thought the restomodded Rolls Royce from a few years ago was blasphemy until I saw that. Perphaps it wasn’t their idea, probably was one of their stupid clients with more money than brain who commissioned the restomod on the Mercedes, but anyway, I agree you should keep those cars OEM because there is nothing wrong about them & also the character they possess is all due to their engineering. The moment you alter that, you end up with something that is no longer real, is just a shell of what it used to be.

although i can somewhat appreciate a little of what icon does, what they did to that merc was pretty lame. A. for the condition the car was originally in, and B. for as you say making the car like any other crappy restomod. The car looked like it needed suspension work and some upholstery work done, but otherwise a solid car. ripping out the 6.3 is a disgrace. I understand they are difficult to work on, but come on... jonathan ward uses the excuse of "if you are out in the middle of nowhere and something goes wrong you can go to wherever and fix it" but that is absurd. who in the year of our lord 2022 is driving that car out into nowhere in the first place, and second, if the car is in good mechanical standing, I am sure it would be fine to drive out into nowhere. furthermore, using the excuse of making it more reliable is like me grafting a casio f-91 onto a rolex because it is more reliable. owning any classic/vintage car is not purely about reliability, it is because a classic car offers something that a modern car does not, any potential reliability is a bonus.
