I have pens all the way up to $500 and both the Pilot Kakuno and the Platinum Preppy write and feel better than 90% of them. They are entry level price but punch way above their weight class. Just goes to show how over priced the majority of fountain pens are.
Kakuyo is such a cute nickname for it 🥺 I wish I had this video before I got into fountain pens. I ended up buying a TWSBI Eco (EF) first and then debated between getting a Preppy or Kakuno since I wanted a pen to kinda throw around with no guilt in my bag when on the go to university. I then got my Pilot Kakuno (F) and boy, did I underestimate how fine that nib was going to be. The Kakuno Fine is even finer than my TWSBI Extra Fine which surprised me! Don't get me wrong, I absolutely love it since I always choose very fine pens at 0.3 or 0.4. I've been enjoying the Pilot Kakuno's fine tip so maybe I'll look into more Japanese fountain pens in the future when it comes to future purchases.
You are not alone..these pens were not my firsts either hahaha but also started with sailor lecoule (japanese) hence the sailor madness now.😂 but twsbi is also one of my first discoveries and a very good and reliable fp until now…
I got Kakuno first and it started my obsession with fountain pens. I still keep at least 1 kakuno inked for my EDC batch. Got more preppy due to nice limited edition body patterns available. But prefer Kakuno with the fine nib. The EF too scratchy for me. Keeping TWSBI GO in Broad nib for shimmering inks. 😊 Afternote: Kakuno can take out nib for a more deep cleasing. Preppy, need to rely on converter to pump water thru nib area to get it cleaned. TWSBI GO like Kakuno can completely dis-assemble for deep clean. Broader nibs on preppy is good for showing off ink shades.
@dcgaming6036 i own a preppy with a 03 (fine) nib, and a kaweco sport with an extra fine nib. They pretty much write the same size lines. I like them both.

You can't hate the smiley face on the kakuno nib 😄 it's too cute 💖

Wow!thanks for sharing a more detailed experience. I don’t have a twsbi go but now am curious to try it. Thanks for watching❤️
preppy's nib and feed are also removable and they also give an option to use felt tips and use it like marker sketch pens.
if they upgraded the plastic in the kakunos (it already is good eneough) or made a metal version, the whole community would get rid of many oens
true💯
Preppy is the best bang for buck fountain pen
I love my Platinum Preppy. My all time EDC.

Do you remember where do you bought those pens? Is it from handwritten pen shop like the ink?
For these pens I think I got it in different shops. Im not sure now where but for HWPS mostly are the pens on my list😅
Wait.. Me actually think it was Kakuyo too at first 😭😭 What's a Kakuyo?
Kakuyo is another stationery brand not pens ;)
