Photograph is one of those underrated gems you never get tired of listening to and in some cases, brings back memories from the 90s. I remember first seeing this video back on 120 Minutes and being really impressed with The Verve Pipe. It was one of those songs where you knew that they were going be in for some bigger things. Plus i think that Photograph should've gotten more airplay than it did back in the day.

I feel you, absolutely underrated band, and I actually saw them live! At (back then in '96) Riverside Race Track & Amusement park. They played a show with The Refreshments (another great band) and Dishwalla. So yes , this totally brings me back to "96, ahh, when I was in my 20's...They were good live, from what I remember...the beer tent was happenin' that day, & it was like 90° deg. out.

For a short period of time they were absolutely brilliant. There was so much good music in the 90's. I think at this point people were starting to look at some of it as a rerun of the grunge and immediate "post-grunge" eras of the early 90's, but this band definitely deserved better, brilliant vocals and good musicians. The last great decade of true rock music. the 00's became a parody of it and took it on a downhill spiral. The 90's were the best.

And if you want beautiful, pitiful
    Have me in a picture
And if you want make me dance
Throw me 'round spin upon your finger
Blind labors the blind and I am
    Unwilling to uncover my eyes
And if you want take your time
Rifle through, find a very nice one
If there's a crease in my face over time
There's plenty more where that came from
Words, frozen, will thaw when I am
Wasted, I am better shut up
And a frame is quite confining
Hang me up, hang me up
    I'm in the photograph
    I'm in the photograph
Well, I'm in the photograph, hey
    Picture this
When I'm alone and the world is a fist
    Well, I am weightless
    A universe, gravitate, orchestrate
    Well, I am fearless
    And spin the sky surrounding

We all drew straws to see who would play in what slots. My band pulled a short straw and played 2nd with Verve Pipe right after. My band was hot and well known for our live intensity. When we came off the Verve Pipe guys were like, "we have to follow that?". I said you're here for reason, you'll kill it. When they got done with their set and came off stage I told them they would be signed within the year. 6 months later they were all over MTV and the radio.

I disagree I think the leaping point with meaningful music you speak of started in the eighties as far as the NuWave the synth pop.. as far as I'm concerned the alternative of the 90s is the second wave

Dayum! I was in my late teens when this came out and I have no memory of ever hearing it. My local radio stations were hit or miss back then.
Still, it's pretty good. If radio stations worked it into rotation it would fit right in with today's music.

The last time I heard this song I was about 4-5 years old. The tune of it stayed in the back of my mind for years and years without ever knowing what it was called or what band it was performed by. And now I’m 31 years old, and I finally found it after all this time.

The same reason anything from anytime looks the same as a lot of other things from the same time. Someone made something creative with an aesthetic or theme that became popular and financially successful, and most people aren't that risky or creative so they just copy and paste.

kunning konstanze oneword "Suck" 2nd it was th era that changed history and the reason the future would look dimmed for looking older and why the get old, they are too afraid to get to that point in life, i don't blame them for acting the way they do now a days.
histories do repeat themselves in different shapes.

    • @ClosetoHumanMusic
      @ClosetoHumanMusic 9 років тому +2

kdchmln Of course. I think NIN's "Closer" set it all in motion. But that made sense for that video. It was a dark video for dark music. While this isn't exactly uplifting, it's not as sinister as it's shot to look, and the band's style doesn't really fit the vibe either. It's just weird to me.
