Thank you. I haven’t taken a piano lesson since the mid 70’s and this is amazingly helpful. It’s such a poignant song. I just found it in my ancient music book from back then. You are so easy to understand. None of my teachers would ever once play a piece for me even tho I’d ask. This is so fun to try and play. ❤️
The commentary in this video is useful because it makes me realize that there’s much more to this piece than what I see on the score. It also helps me to appreciate why my teacher gave me an assignment to simply learn the soprano voice for this week. Still, I’m perplexed as to why I find this piece so challenging to learn.
So parceling lines is the key to learning this piece thoroughly-- as to a schedule, each student has different levels of reading proficiency in the early learning phase. But having the patience to study and phrase each line is most valuable, not dictated by a fixed deadline of absorption. Baby steps are the best way to go. My blog goes into greater detail about the fusion of melody, harmony and rhythm.. I have posted the link in the comments section.
Thanks Shirley that was really helpful🤍
Thank you I am learning this piece

Thank you again for playing this. I’m still learning it, but it’s going very well.

phrasing and nuance are always challenging but worth the process of discovery.. The vocal model is important and exemplary.
Great the way you guide framing for interpretation - and the concentration involved in executing it. Beautiful sounds!
Thank you, Stephen!
Beautiful piece and great interpretation
