THANKS SO MUCH FOR THIS REVIEW. It seems like much, if not all of the buzz is between the Rift, Quest or Index VR headsets, but for $230 this is really a steal with MUCH of the same features
Already have a PSVR and was thinking about getting a second ps4 and PSVR set for my GF to play too, then I saw these on amazon and bought 2 of em! Looks much better than PSVR!
This is a very late comment but I've had an odyssey+ for the last year and a half or so. I can say the tracking is a HUGE downside, especially if you play first person shooters. Any time you hold a two handed weapon, the headset loses tracking of your front hand because the back hand blocks it. This is a massive problem since now you suddenly can't aim. It also makes holstering weapons behind your back more finnicky. Then comes the massive rings on the controllers. These suck. They get in the way of reloading certain guns, especially revolvers. Your controller rings will hit each other and stop you from being able to put the bullet into the cylinder so you have to drop it in instead. Over all, the tech of the head set is really nice but there's just so many quality of life things that really make using this a pain.
I used to play with SketchUp back in high school and it helped me out a lot when it came to projects. So glad to know I can use VR on SketchUp when I order this product!
Update, been using it for the past week now and it's been fairly easy to setup! For anyone who wants to use it for steam games, make sure to install and use the Windows Mixed Reality app IN STEAM. You will be required to launch it to play steam games. :)

Crashalot I ended up buying it last week but returned it after a few days and luckily found a Vive from a local seller for 300. Although the Odyssey+ was still a great Vr headset especially if one is new to Vr but to me you just can’t beat external sensor tracking compared to internal front camera tracking. With the odyssey my tracking would sometimes glitch a bit when trying to aim down my weapon on Pavlov with the Vive I have no issues. Maybe if the Odyssey+ had more cameras for better tracking I would have stuck with it but for now external sensor tracking with the Vive is my favorite
As someone who got massive headaches when looking at 3d displays do you think vr would affect me similarly? I wish there was somewhere you could go to try vr out before you put down the money.
I would look at the Oculus Quest instead of this one. If you have a Best Buy near you they usually have some on display. Not sure how they are handling demos with Covid.

I don't know about everyone else but I've had nothing but problems with it my HMD has never worked, I keep getting and error that tells me that I have the wrong version of window when I have windows 10 but then I've also went ahead and reinstall windows 10 in the version it recommend which is the windows 10 spring creators edition which actually just made it worse because then it told me to go and reinstall the version I already had. Can someone help because I'm honestly about to just sell it.
I'd definitely go with the Quest. I bought one after doing this video and I love it. I haven't fully tested Link yet, but it's only gonna get better. Plus, they will be launching hands-free VR, where it will sense your hands and let you manipulate stuff in VR

It seems to have some ambient occlusion effect as you move around in your model, its quite nice in the VR. Also is it possible to change the field of view when you experience the model through VR and one more thing I wanted to know was that can you experience the model in 2 point perspective while in VR? My name is Matt, btw. The app I used in the video is called VR Sketch. vrsketch.eu/. It installs as a plugin to SketchUp. That's how it's able to have a real-time link with your SketchUp model. I don't think it's possible to change the field of view or 2 point perspective inside VR, because with VR you want it to look like as it would in real life, otherwise you will get feelings of motion sickness. So the perspective tries to make it look as natural as possible to the human eye.

The only other headset I'd consider right now is the Oculus Quest ($399). It's completely wireless. I bought one and it's pretty great. The biggest thing I'm excited about is the Oculus Link feature which lets you connect to your computer through USB to so you can use all your PC based VR apps. I haven't been able to test it thoroughly though, yet. It's just been released in beta.

Okay...so the controllers do NOT lose tracking as soon as they are off camera. You should do some more research on how the cameras are used as well as other positioning tech in WMR headsets before you do a review. Sorry, but having lived with the Odyssey for a couple of years now and doing the research, the cameras are only part of the equation. This stigma has to stop with inside out tracking. In fact, you are going to see more and more headsets moving to inside out tracking and a lot less lighthouse solutions.
I mean.... yeah, I said in the video that the tracking is decent. Only in extreme cases when you completely move the controller out of view of the cameras did it glitch a little. Overall, it works really well.
No. One benefit of having the space is that the lenses are ventilated, so they are less likely to fog up. So it's a nice feature once you get used to it

I've only tried it on my computer. I run a NVIDIA 1070 graphics card. I'm probably due for an upgrade soon, but it still keeps up just fine for now. I would also take a look at the Oculus Quest. They just announced some exciting features coming soon that will allow you to tether to a PC, coming next year. I'm going to be doing a review on the Quest too.

I'll answer this one for Jeff... yeah, you can definitely so that, it all depends on the software you use. Obviously you'd both need a headset, (or you can have your client in VR, while you are in 2d). I'm going to be doing VR software reviews soon.
@@BeastJohn it didn't work out for me like I had hoped. It was rather blurry and I tried some tricks I found online that were supposed to help it but unfortunately for me it didn't. It was fine for watching things 360 vr etc but when it came to gaming the lack of clear picture gave me headaches. I sadly boxed it up today to send it back. Perhaps it was just mine but I think I'll wait a while longer. Tested Skyrim VR, fallout VR, and quite a few others. To disclose I do wear glasses so it may have some effect on it. But during my testing I found that the glasses just made the issues more glaring. I had friends over for Thanksgiving who tested and also noticed it(no glasses). Steam VR was cleaner than the mixed reality from Windows 10 but I couldn't personally recommend it at this time sadly. Edit: Besides that the headset was comfortable and the built in audio was great. I did have some slight issues with the tracking after initial setup where it would forget where the front was supposed to be when I came back to it but otherwise it was responsive and accurate for the most part
@@psopro2658 hm that's interesting. I was asking because I wanted to see what someone else's experience with it was at this point. I was surprised to find out it wasn't as great as everyone makes it out to be saying, "it's the best WMR headset." I got one and I really wanted it to be good so I could keep it. The way the headset doesn't bend means it sits out and the open gap between my face and the headset is massive. Because of this, the higher FOV than some other WMR headsets didn't matter because you couldn't get close enough to see it. Same thing with the better display. Also, that means there's a ton of pressure on your forehead/the top of the front of your head. Same thing for me with it being blurry because I couldn't get to the sweet spot no matter the IPD (and I haven't had a problem with a headset without IPD adjustment). All of these things combined just made it instantly unusable for me. The built in Bluetooth, headphones, and mic are cool, but the cons out weigh the pros. Just like you said, "sadly boxed it up to send it back."

It's got small issues in a lot of VR games that I didn't experience on my roommate's Vive, but it's still VR for less than $400 which I think is awesome. Eventually you find fixes for the issues or get past them and you have a lot of fun.

the tracking is utter garbage, it's the Achlies heel. If the O+ had the tracking of the rift S is would easily be the best VR headset... if you can deal with the crappy controllers and massive light bleed... The controllers are kind of awkward and not too comfortable... but it's the tracking that kills this HMD dead. Playing Beat Saber I wanna throw the O+ out the window, it just can't accurately track that quickly. for $200 it's a good deal and will get you into VR. I bought it back in Febuary when it was $499 and totally not worth it at that price.

Actually in this context, I'm talking about the VR term 3Dof vs 6Dof. 3Dof does not have positional tracking, so while it does know which way your head is pointing, it doesn't know its relative position in space. 6Dof, on the other hand tracks not only head rotation/orientation, but it also tracks your physical relative location.
Show me a better headset that is on sale for Black Friday at $230, lol. You simply cannot beat the price. It's not the best headset, but it's the best one for the price.
The headset sucks, WMR itself is already a bad system conpared to like, SteamVR for example, the tracking is terrible, the boundary system sometimes doesn't even work, the audio can glitch out and destroy your ears, and the list goes on and on and on and on, just buy another one, this one is absolutely horrible

Probably not, you have to have a 1060 minimum. I recommend 1070 I have it and it's the best for vr.

I'll answer this one for Jeff... yeah, you can definitely so that, it all depends on the software you use. Obviously you'd both need a headset, (or you can have your client in VR, while you are in 2d). I'm going to be doing VR software reviews soon.

@@BeastJohn it didn't work out for me like I had hoped. It was rather blurry and I tried some tricks I found online that were supposed to help it but unfortunately for me it didn't. It was fine for watching things 360 vr etc but when it came to gaming the lack of clear picture gave me headaches. I sadly boxed it up today to send it back. Perhaps it was just mine but I think I'll wait a while longer. Tested Skyrim VR, fallout VR, and quite a few others. To disclose I do wear glasses so it may have some effect on it. But during my testing I found that the glasses just made the issues more glaring. I had friends over for Thanksgiving who tested and also noticed it(no glasses). Steam VR was cleaner than the mixed reality from Windows 10 but I couldn't personally recommend it at this time sadly.
Edit: Besides that the headset was comfortable and the built in audio was great. I did have some slight issues with the tracking after initial setup where it would forget where the front was supposed to be when I came back to it but otherwise it was responsive and accurate for the most part
@@psopro2658 hm that's interesting. I was asking because I wanted to see what someone else's experience with it was at this point. I was surprised to find out it wasn't as great as everyone makes it out to be saying, "it's the best WMR headset." I got one and I really wanted it to be good so I could keep it. The way the headset doesn't bend means it sits out and the open gap between my face and the headset is massive. Because of this, the higher FOV than some other WMR headsets didn't matter because you couldn't get close enough to see it. Same thing with the better display. Also, that means there's a ton of pressure on your forehead/the top of the front of your head. Same thing for me with it being blurry because I couldn't get to the sweet spot no matter the IPD (and I haven't had a problem with a headset without IPD adjustment). All of these things combined just made it instantly unusable for me. The built in Bluetooth, headphones, and mic are cool, but the cons out weigh the pros. Just like you said, "sadly boxed it up to send it back."

@@nguyenbaohuy8638 I bought this one for $230 on Amazon too. Got it a day before it sold out. Great display, iffy tracking in some games. It's got small issues in a lot of VR games that I didn't experience on my roommate's Vive, but it's still VR for less than $400 which I think is awesome. Eventually you find fixes for the issues or get past them and you have a lot of fun.

the tracking is utter garbage, it's the Achlies heel. If the O+ had the tracking of the rift S is would easily be the best VR headset... if you can deal with the crappy controllers and massive light bleed...
The controllers are kind of awkward and not too comfortable... but it's the tracking that kills this HMD dead. Playing Beat Saber I wanna throw the O+ out the window, it just can't accurately track that quickly.
for $200 it's a good deal and will get you into VR. I bought it back in Febuary when it was $499 and totally not worth it at that price.

You are exagerating. The tracking is good people have video playing expert+ on this headset and that beatsaber girl on yt uses mixed reality headset.

Actually in this context, I'm talking about the VR term 3Dof vs 6Dof. 3Dof does not have positional tracking, so while it does know which way your head is pointing, it doesn't know its relative position in space. 6Dof, on the other hand tracks not only head rotation/orientation, but it also tracks your physical relative location.

The headset sucks, WMR itself is already a bad system conpared to like, SteamVR for example, the tracking is terrible, the boundary system sometimes doesn't even work, the audio can glitch out and destroy your ears, and the list goes on and on and on and on, just buy another one, this one is absolutely horrible
