  • Few cameras scream early 2000's aesthetic like the Polaroid i-Zone. These things might litter thrift store shelves now but there was a time when they were super hip and fun for everyone! I'm looking at why you should avoid these specific cameras if you're looking at getting into shooting Polaroids right now!

Omg I still have the i-Zone with radio, I just founded it a couple months ago and it still works. I wish I could find some film 🥺

They basically produced photographic band-aids. That's how kids used to share their pictures with each other before Instagram. The cameras themselves now make nice colorful paper weights. 1 kinda want the one with the FM radio. Not gonna lie.

The i-Zone doesn’t sound like a bad idea... although I think it might have done better had it been introduced in the early-1990s instead

It did pretty well. It was the "best selling camera of the year" in both 1999 and 2000.

My grandma bought me an i-Zone camera when I was young. I really loved that thing and remember taking it on a few school field trips. I believe the film was kind of pricey but my Grandma would always ask me if I needed more so she could pick some up for me. Unfortunately I've lost all the photos but I still have the useless camera sitting around in my collection.

That's so sweet that your grandma always wanted to make sure you had film. She sounds awesome. The camera actually sounds like it was really fun.

This camera sounds cool and fun! It's not so different from the Instax Mini or the new Polaroid Go which produces the smallest instant photos you can right now.

You forgot to mention the digital hybrid version!!! That’s right, they made an i-zone that shot Polaroid films as well as digital !

Oh, no way, I had one of these as a kid. I distinctly remember the tiny magnetic picture with the little bit of colour on the side.

Hey, just wanted to say I really appreciate how much time, effort, care and research you clearly put into these :) I’ve been shooting film for a couple t years and I only found your channel a few weeks ago but I’ve learned loads of super interesting stuff I had no idea about that’s only helped increase my love for analog photography. Recently I dug out my dad’s old Minolta 110 SLR after watching your video about 110 film and bought a roll of film for it!
Keep doing what you’re doing man :)

I had a purple Izone when i was a kid. The images were super tinny and my parents never bothered to buy me more exposure after it ran out. All and all, a disappointing experience.

Right after I went into college I found an I-Zone at a thrift store and shot a couple of packs... Cute camera. Cue many years later I picked up a Polaroid Xiao, that is a much more toy like, but gray rectangular block of a camera. Still has all of it's original paperwork in Japanese, and it's original pack of film it came with.

the 2nd i-zone is a digital combo so you could plug it into your computer to get the photos off of it. Haven't found a way to get it to work yet though.

I had the i-zone radio! I was about 12-13 y/o at the time.. at that age many kids like myself never measured our strength and over pulled the film or it just wouldn't break off (felt like pulling a number from a deli dispenser) I'd pull the shot I took and an extra negative which was exposed and a wasted lol the sticky back part never worked tbh.. and the quality was pretty bad. Radio worked great but it would drain the batteries extremely quick or they would leak. Ahh.. the memories. I'm a professional sports photographer now and I absolutely loved seeing how much technology has advanced! Thanks for the great videos!

had it as a kid. loved it. it was just affordable enough to have shot a few packs before it went out. film was so hard to get back in the day even when it was out.

A Polaroid I-zone is the first camera I ever owned. I had one when I was like four or five I think. Very fond memories of it. I only just recently remembered that I ever owned one and it brought back a wave of nostalgia.

I don't know if I've ever seen anything that looks so much like 1999 as the i-Zone. Every youth-oriented consumer electronic product was made of blobby transparent coloured plastic and had wacky squishy fonts and logos.

Released in 1999, easy, cheap, kinda crappy, and pretty useless. Never has a camera been more relatable to me.

My sister and I had a dark purple i-zone when we were little! Took so many pictures with that thing, still have a bunch of them in a drawer.
We were really young, and I remember our parents getting upset at us for wasting film. Oops.
But yeah, I have fond memories of these. Pulling the film out as it was exposed and whatnot.

If I remember correctly the Izone film cost more the normal color 600 size, it wasn't until they canceled it and put it on a huge discount that I could afford the film for it haha.

I had a joycam. Despite the fact that almost everything about it was terrible, the instant nature of it was probably what helped fire up my interest in photography. I never much liked waiting to get my film back (still don't) but as an adult that's easier to deal with. If it wasn't for the joycam I might never have picked up photography, so for that I am thankful.

Es curioso que los productos de fotografía analógica que no se pueden encontrar, son los que se lanzaron justo antes de la irrupción de la era digital.
Is significant that analog photography products that no longer exist are they were released just before digital era started.

Its funny because with a name like i zone you would expect something digital the technology was new and hip but not very cheap .and the early digital cameras were annoying to use everyone used their own media .some used floppy's some used zip discs some used flash cards .but every flash card was different back then there was no standard you needed a good recent pc just to get the picture off it and print you couldn't do it on an older late 80s or early 90s pc a lot of people still had back then. and the software was glitchy and only worked with 1 type of camera .and the quality was worse than analogue. so for something cheap and kid friendly analogue still made sense
