Oh Billy, please find a stone to replace the missing stone instead of covering the wall. The stone work is perfect and will add so much character to the room.
I think the stonework, cleaned up would be a perfect transition from the ‘old’ in the chapel to the ‘new’ in the office. What a lovely feature if will be. 😊
I agree with the other poster that a false stone would work perfectly for the wall gap. At worst, take a squared-off cross section of wood, stain it, and allow it to represent the large beam that is behind it, while plugging the hole.
So glad you decided to expose that stone around the window. It is/will be lovely. I think that whole wall would be lovely exposed. I love all that old architecture of the wooden beams and stone walls.
I was so worried that the glass panes would get broken when the debris was falling down and then I thought the whole window might fall out there at the end! But Sean is an expert! Well done!
Love the way things are shaping up Billy. I don't know if you or anyone else has mentioned it but I would spend the money on the equivalent European grade to the USA SAE Grade 8 bolts. They have the highest tensile strength of bolt available here.
The stone arch over the church window is stunning! I now look forward to seeing it all restored as it will be an absolute feature of beauty and craftsmanship. :)
Billy you’re allowed to change your mind and I think you’re exposing the granite and that beam would be a gorgeous addition to your office! Thank you all.
I did exactly the same on my Cotswold stone wall when they took the plaster off. Left it open which also allowed the stone to breathe and looks beautiful. I'd just get a local stone mason to replace that bottom piece of granite. Won't cost much to do at all and you'll know you're restoring properly and leaving a lovely legacy.
I agree, I'm sure that there are granite blocks or pieces laying around in the gardens that could patch that section and still be original to the convent.
The rest of that wall has to come down mate. Yes, its a lot of work bull all that exposed stone would look amazing. It would still complement a modern office design.
I was screaming don’t cover up that stone!!! Find some molding, find a tiny piece of granite find something to fix that corner but don’t cover up the stone. lol. I had a bathroom shower with exposed stone and it wax gorgeous amazing lol.
I think exposing the stone around the window is brilliant. You must have some stone from all the stuff you’ve removed that can be fitted there to make the wall whole again. Sean will make it happen!
I'm so glad you exposed the office window. It is so nice to see history come to life! I held my breath during the whole process because the window wasn't protected. Don't scare me like that any more!
Go Billy go! Happy you decided to take all that crap down, look at it all dusty and nasty. I hope you take the rest down right up to the ceiling, the natural stone and beam will be gorgeous all dusted off and pointed. Your doing the same for the kitchen. Will give you more space. Double check that whole window unit that the screws are still secure and haven’t rusted with time.
I have to say, one of my favorite things about work on the convent would be, no matter the task, whether it be painting, sweeping, pulling things off the wall, cutting brush, etc. everyone is willing to do just whatever needs to be done! Awesome!
Am I the only person that can see that Sean has cardboard on the floor when he's uncovering the stone? It seems Sean has years of experience doing this kind of thing.
@@bfox5767 not nearly enough though, and late in the day! I'm surprised Sean was not more protective of his new floor! One piddly piece of cardboard isn't enough!
There still are no screws attaching the right side of Billy's office window, to the window casing, 6:54. I fear window breakage if the right-side window is opened.
That stone surround in the window recess will be an amazing feature. Glad you decided to uncover the nook and expose it! There are so many products available now that will help clean, seal and preserve the stones, so they should look magnificent.
Billy, what about using some leather between the wood and steel? I am a spinner/weaver and in many of my antique tools leather is used as a buffer. Just put some grease on it and it’ll be good to go❤️🙏🏼🇺🇸
Looks like fiber board much used in the 50s as sound deadening but absorbs water ,your poor new floor, exposed old stone in the office but a cold magnet and the new draughts...
The stone arch is beautiful and so much better than the layers of plaster and wall board covering it. Exposing the stone is a salute to the fine laborers of the past. I’m so happy you decided to go with this decision. xx
Congratulations on your mind change. I'm always happy to see restoration over renovation. I'd been thinking that even if it wasn't feasible to completely evict the brick wall in that office, opening things up as much as possible above the window would look so much better ... and even with it being a work in progress, it already looks amazing. Instead of covering up the stonework on the sides of the window, would finding some similar stones to fill in the hole(s) be an option? If not, some wood skirting around the bottom to cover the hole(s) with the stonework left exposed above might look good.
I kept holding my breath and hoping you guys wouldn’t break those beautiful windows. Huge sigh of relief when it was all removed! Lol My favorite Christmas movie is “ Rudolph The Red Nosed Reindeer” the old one, from the 60’s or early 70’s. Favorite song is “ O Holy Night”🐝🤗❤️
A sign of the past and the love and attention to detail that went into modernising the convent for 20th century living and taking care of the elderly residents of the convent is clear to see in how sturdy the work the previous builders worked on the convent 😊
Just an idea for the gap near the floor on the window surround. Could you look around the grounds and find some unique stones you could sort of plaster in?
I’m looking forward to seeing how you’re going to finish that window in your office Billy. Wouldn’t it be lovely if the bell was in by Christmas time, or at least New Year’s, so you could bring the new year in.
Regarding the bell, if the steel rod is going to be the rotational center for the bell, why don't you want it to be a single piece from one side to the other? It will be a lot stronger and you won't have to worry about getting both ends matching. A single rod would be a lot easier to set up with the pivots on either side, as well. Then the wood pieces would just be responsible for holding the bell onto the rod, and the wood wouldn't be constantly flexing in the center under the weight of the bell.
I suspect there could be a problem with uneven thermal expansion with a solid rod the temperature could go from -10C to +45C but agreed a longer piece might have been better. but it would need some space to expand.
I was sat in church filming my granddaughter when my notification goes off to say you have uploaded a new video. I smile and think when I get home I will watch it when a woman behinds me taps my shoulder….. “I watch them and the rest of the family”. I replied “so do I!” Carry on being your fabulous selves as we are enjoying you all from Oxfordshire ❤
I love it that you decided to leave the rock and the wood beam showing. Is there any way to remove the sheet rock on just that wall? If there is the rock masonry behind it I would expose it and redo the wood beam like a mantle in a fireplace. I love the rock masonry there. Also, is there a plan on refinishing the window, clean it up? At some point if you decide to have weddings there, you could install a hidden outdoor screen to come down to cover that window so that if your in your office you can shut it so as not be a distraction to those in the chapel.
Of all the things to get excited about, the moment I realized you might actually demo that awful wall 😂 But that wall has been bugging me from the start lol. Glad it's finally coming out the stone is going to look so cool!
Oh no no no! The NEWWWW FLOOR! Put a tarp down fellows!! Really what ya finkin’ ;) Then using a shovel to scoop it up?! Oh my - heart attack time. Love the videos. You and Ryan = Dynamic Duo. Billy - since Ryan has been video-ing - you are back to smiles and jokes. Well done mate! Keep up the great work - love this channel - despite the abuse of the new floor. What would Rick do?😮
Hi, thanks for the video series. In case you haven't been made aware of this, the tannic acid in green Oak will corrode ferrous materials such as mild steel, especially if there is dampness about. Stainless steel is OK for the fixings. Given you have a mild steel rod, by the look of things, a bit of time considering a good primer and coating system for both the rod and oak may help.
I was thinking that he might would do that at some point .. But I doubt it now since it's been mention in the comments cause everyone reads the comments . So they would know it was a prank.
That looks wonderful, so glad you took it all off, the look of the old stones just gives it an old world flair...especially with everything else so modern, this is such a warm reminder, love it!
I enjoyed your video today, I love that you took the window down to the original stone work - great place to set up stage lighting for performances in the chapel. Still excited about the bell too. Are we going to name the bell?
How to Phils bumper be the only thing that’s holding all that weight? That’s scary in itself. Oh my gosh, the window looks so much better! It’s beautiful! What an incredible find. Good decision to keep it. How could you not? 💜🤟🏻😎🎄🇺🇸
You are all doing a great job! The exposed wall would look amazing with lighting installed to highlight it. Would be beautiful mood lighting for the office when all the other lights are off.
It's such a great Galleon style window! I love it, and exposing the beam and brickwork makes it ooze history. So glad you did this, though I was holding my breathe as chunks of plaster came down near the glass. Looking forward to seeing what you do with that front false wall that goes over top, ie to expose it even more. PS; ie the missing stone at bottom of sides near window itself which you said you would have to re-plaster as it does not go all the way down; just wondering if you could just add in a false stone front in that gap, so you could keep the stone exposed?
I’ve just realised I’ve been watching The Petheriks for two years and I’m still loving it and love you guys. The hard work is inspirational. I’m glad your gonna leave some of the stonework in that beautiful window in the convent of your office you’re all amazing. Since Ryan has been doing the videoing it’s been perfect so well done cheers to everyone.
Exciting!! Sean does great job, doesn’t he? He is always so precise when measuring and careful tearing stuff out. You chose well when you hired all your workers, Billy. So now you have good friends working with you. Lucky fellow. 💞💞
Oh I am so happy that you decided to go ahead and strip off all the "new" coverings around the little window!!! There just had to be something wonderfully old and original under all that! Great work. Love your videos. Watch them every day!
I have been waiting for this day since you first exposed that glorious window group. I think if you had taken a survey most would have wanted that area brought back to its original splendor. To see that fantastic window of old surrounded by modern blah was almost blasphemy. I agree with many that taking that wall back to its beginnings would make one heck of a statement highlighting all of your hard work. AND you would have the pleasure of seeing it every day at the office. What a lucky man.
And btw. the entire weight of the bell and the hanger will be on the inside screws. I would combine your original idea with that cage around the oak and the new idea with the steel rod and secure the inside of the steel rod with a cage around the wood pressing the rod against the oak. //R
The natural old brickwork ariund the window is beautiful, a great find. This office is going to look really good when its finished. Well done Sean and everyone. Your camera work Ryan is spot on. Thank you Billy. 💕🇦🇺

Oh Billy, please find a stone to replace the missing stone instead of covering the wall. The stone work is perfect and will add so much character to the room.
I can understand why you’d change your mind about the office window. Very unique and adds texture to the decorating.

Absolutely the right decision to expose the stone architecture over the window! Looks beautiful!
I love the window in the office. Can't wait to see it after you've finished with it.

I thought that, putting down a dust sheet does save a lot of time and damage control.
