      Hi Maureen! I’m with you! I love quilting with fills. It’s the only way I quilt! Do you have any quilts you would be willing to post in our Facebook group? If so, I’d sure love it if you could post and note that you quilted it in IQ. I’m sure it would be beneficial for the ladies to see your work. Of course ooooh and ahhhh over your beautiful creation! 🤗

      You’re very welcome, my friend! It’s addictive… what’s not in our wonderful world of stitching! 😆

    In early classes with my Destiny2, I was taught to start the same way, (hoop, scan etc) but scroll out to see the entire area, either draw a box, or put a shape in, set the shape to No Stitch, then fill in with the design. Keeps the boundaries sharper I think. The non- geometric designs are fabulous for this, and I’ve used them a lot. But I can never get the geometric designs (grids, bricks etc) to match. But you can do some fabulous custom quilting this way 😍

      Great way to do this, too! There are lots of ways to skin the IQ cat! 😂

    Thanks Melinda - I’m making a cushion at the moment and wishing I’d done a bit of quilting around the embroidery so going to try this method

    I found using a shape and sizing to the area helps people who can't draw straight.

      Exactly! That’s what I rely so heavily on using shapes to create I IQ.

    By painting the outline like you did does the pattern automatically match up when you move to a new section? This looks incredibly helpful, I just want to be sure I understand the process correctly.

      Because this is not E2E, it will not line up perfectly. If you want your patterns to connect perfectly, definitely use the border function and/or E2E. I don’t make show quilts so I’m not concerned with that aspect. If you are concerned about the connections, try a tester quilt and see what you think. If the connections stand out too much, this may not work for you. Great question and one I forgot to address in the video. Ty!

      @@melindabigleysewblessed thank you. What I’ve learned is most of the time you can’t really tell if they match perfectly or not. You have to look VERY close.

    Is this similar to the meridian. I don’t have a camera in my machine but the app. I haven’t played with it yet, just wanting to know if it’s possible…

    • @melindabigleysewblessed
      @melindabigleysewblessed  7 місяців тому

      The Meridian is the same as the Altair. The only difference is that the Altair has a sewing side. The Solaris has several things that are different from the other machines.

    Do you get patterns to line up? I have found many times I can't because of a pattern repeat. If you could go further and show that, that wolf be great.

    • @melindabigleysewblessed
      @melindabigleysewblessed  10 місяців тому +1

      They will not line up using this method. I did a live where I showed how to do E2E a while back. The border function and E2E are intended to do just that.

      @melindabigleysewblesse I have only had my machine for 4 months, but I have done lots of trial and error while making a table runner and such. I wanted to quilt down the middle of it... the sides were like a twister made of triangles. At first, I thought I could do E2E.
      Then, I found the minimum width allowed was about 7.87 " if I remember right. The middle section that I needed to quilt was only 6". So, at first, I tried drawing the rectangle and filling it in like you did. Then, I moved the piece down and did the same thing. I think the fill had a 6 to 8" repeat, so I moved it up on the screen while using the camera to match the previous stitching. For the third section, I did the same thing, only it wouldn't match up... and because I had to move the fill up to try to match each time I did this, the fill area was shortened. I tried everything. I ended up using a rectangular shape for the last section, sized it to what was left, and just matched as best I could. It was not a perfect match.
      When I think about this next time, I may make my middle section 8 " wide, and then maybe edge to edge would work perfectly.... but i gotta check minimum length. Then, I could just cut off what I don't need and sew on the twister sections. Live and learn. That was my very first quilted project. I'm going to search for your video now.

    When I try to do this, following along with you, I get a request for a sticker to be placed. How do I get it to just scan without the sticker placement?
    I want to scan a border picture that’s on the fabric and get it to outline ( a little Christmas barn)?
