  • This is an update on my project Jazz Bass. I featured the neck a few weeks ago when I leveled the refretted the fingerboard. This time I'm fitting the neck to the body (more complicated than you think!),, and using black vinyl wrap on the pickguard. I have made a video about this in the past, but I have worked out a few new techniques for doing this.

Great content as usual! I have seen people like Olinto use several colours layered when doing that relic kind of look. So, for example, there are little bits of yellow underneath brown underneath the main green sparkle finish and as the relicing is done, the little bits of the other colours pop out on the edges. Might be something cool for you to try! I would definitely like to see you tackling a full on relic job to make a project bass feel really worked in and comfortable.

Yep it looks great like that. I've done distressed furniture with a similar approach. This body would have been a good project for that layered sand-through kinda thing. Using high-build primer ("spray putty") but spraying it unevenly on purpose is something I've thought about as well, to force the sand through effect.

Thanks mate. I really appreciate your kind words. Do you actually have a Belman? I remember visiting the factory in thomastown back in the late 90s.

@@RobMods I did have a Belman 5 string that I had made in about 2000. I ended up selling it a few years ago as I was mainly playing my 4 string basses.
