Darren Thorne: Yup and the mesh around the sides, top & bottom, make it so the holes are smaller and the only way the crabs/shrimp can get in would be the 1 entrance. Doing that will increase your catch rate and not losing all the shrimp from escaping on the way up like we seen. Great idea, just some improvements to help the OP out 😊

I saw another comment about the shrimp being under the cage, you can move the bat up a little to where the cant get it from the top or the bottom of the cage, they have to go inside. Also nice mod, it reminds me of those collapsible traps for small crab and lobster and can even catch crawdads and shrimp
no I've never done any trapping but I love to modify an invent stuff it looks as simple as this you need to put a bent plastic flap above the entry points putting a small spring on it to keep it open would work fine that way when you go to pull the cage out the water pressure and down force pushes the flaps down that should double your yield it looks like the majority of your shrimp Escape
The crab and his friends should realize after circulling around the cage, a camera was there watching at them and the whole set is actually a trap but since the bait was just irresistible, they just went in. Hopefully in the next episode, they can learn from this deadly mistakes and a smarter version of crab can enter the trap and pull the bait out undetected by the camera.

Pan fried, deep fried, stir fried. There's pineapple shrimp, lemon shrimp, coconut shrimp, pepper shrimp, shrimp soup, shrimp stew, shrimp salad....
The absolute, best, cheapest 'shrimp pot' is a minnow trap for fresh water. They are cheap, work VERY well, no crabs, no lobsters, few eels...just shrimp...and they don't 90% bail out as you go to hoist them up, either! Get a minnow trap, and stop trying to 're-design' a screwdriver to be a hammer...

You need a funnel going upwards from the bottom so the shrimps can go up into the cage but have a hard time getting out plus the cage needs to be completely cover with the screen. You can add some funnels on the sides too.
The crab's friend was hanging on pretty good to the top of the cage until it surfaced. Like, "I'm gonna bust you out man, gimme a minute to think about how I'm gonna do this."
Anyone else have an Shrimp in their aquarium before or now? My aquarium before was full of Kois.. then we bought Live and Dead shrimps from a man selling at the streets.. then i took some of the Live shrimps and put it in the aquarium.. sadly, their life in the aquarium is in trouble.. Most of them was ate by my fishies
if you put a small door with floats that keep the door afloat while soaking but pinned down while you are pulling the trap you might catch more shrimp. they seem to bolt out during the ascent. the same mesh as your trap sides
Think you need to learn from your gopro if you don`t want the crab tie the doors down make a trap with a net bottom so when you pull it up the shrimp will fall in the net bottom but when the crab came in some shrimp left and when you pulled it up some shrimp got away .

If you lift the bait off of the base and string it in the centre you will increase your catch, the ones under neither will also enter.

I saw another comment about the shrimp being under the cage, you can move the bat up a little to where the cant get it from the top or the bottom of the cage, they have to go inside.
