- Ep 69 - I want to have dinner but I don't have any side dishes this afternoon when I hunt and the water has receded normally when the water is receding I spear fish but today I just want to hunt mantis shrimp with fishing techniques using a simple bamboo trap.

I’m so astonished by the ingenuity of the trap. Amazing.
For real man some twigs and nylon straps u can find outside any dept store lol
Thanks
Nothing says fresh seafood like a shrimp in a green paint can.
Wow! I didn't know they live in shallow waters. Growing up in the Philippines back in the 80's, we would have this as a special treat since they can be pricey and were quickly shipped to bigger cities were it was highly demanded. My dad would usually buy it straight from fishermen fresh. Cooked just like shrimp or crabs, with vinegar and chili as a condiment to enhance its already flavorful meat. Nothing fancy. Nowadays, I'll probably substitute it with garlic infused butter and lemon on the side. BAM! Pound for pound, when it comes to meat to shell ratio, nothing beats it. The flavor and texture is out of this world. So good! It makes me appreciate it more Every time I go to Costco and looked at the overpriced pack of lobster tails. Oh well!
Wait u can eat those i never had one?
@@gino-cz9zu yup meat texture is lobster like. Absolutely delicious.
come on Teban! we don't have all day
@@teban6560 wow youre comment actually made me want to try it👌🏽
I remember buying huge tiger prawns in a small town called Bislig in Mindanao. paid nothing for them and just feasted. I felt spoiled and I was.
First time I’ve ever seen a mantis shrimp lose a fight.
it has no chances agaist a human
True 🤷🏻♂️
@@kajetus0688 that’s a lie I watched a mantis shrimp blow through someone’s shoe and started making them bleed
@@RealCristianoPenaldo You're clearly the 12 year old around here mate. The others are clearly joking around and you take things too seriously.
Plus the other guy only point out how impressive it is for the shrimp to punch through a boot and make a cut on human skin. No human can do that lol. Imagine if they are as big as us, one punch and your gut would splatter on the ground.
@@RealCristianoPenaldo He first said "that's a lie" can be a sarcasm lol. What a brat. You think people don't understand that Mantis Shrimp can't beat a full grown human being? Who's the kid around here LMAO.
Also if you can read and comprehend you would understand that the other guy only says that Mantis Shrimp's ability to punch is impressive. Again you act like a kid and answer just like a kid would. "Imagine humans being pound for pound with T-Rexs" lol. Learn sarcasm kid and don't take anything in UA-cam comment section too seriously.
The water crystal clear. So beautiful.

That’s the biggest mantis shrimp I’ve ever seen , one of the coolest looking predators in the ocean .
Didn’t know what that thing is and I mistaken it with regular shrimp and it crush my finger bone with its punch.
That’s why I ended up here watching this cause I searched it up.

he is just talking about he's going to set the trap and how big the shrimps
I am happy to see these shrimp. I about 1966 I was in back woods Philippines and found a town the had a restaurant. I ended up with a butterflied shrimp that was as big as a lobster. Now I know I wasn't hallucinating. :)
Not a shrimp but thats nice :)
That’s incredible. What a behemoth.

I just can't get over how beautifully clear that water is! Lovely video!!
I discovered this kind of shrimp in a restaurant in a remote village of Thailand some 25 years ago and was really surprised never having heard or seen these in my life. I tasted them, was good ! It was something really of the road at this time... They tied their "claws", like we do for lobsters, I understand why now !
Read up on mandela effect.
Nom, there really is an art to catching these shrimp. Fascinating how you work the sticks and seem to know how to catch the mantis with the string like a lasso. Great video.
Excellent Great catch and video Thanks for sharing your work!
.
.
They're bigger than the live lobsters at Red Lobster. Thanks for the video Nom
I started this video and I thought: "oh look, some traditional traps on a remote island cut off from advanced technology"
Then all at once I realized that this was being digitally filmed and uploaded to youtube ...
what's wrong with technology?
its not cut off from advanced technology lol. madura is in indonesia and its not that far from java mainland
It's obviously Florida
*Then all at once I realized I was being digitally trapped by youtube's recommendations
The language sounds sort of like Tagalog to me, but I could be wrong. I'm guessing he's from the Philippines or maybe Indonesia. They're pretty up to speed when it comes to technology there. A tad poor in areas, but definitely aware of what's out there.

If anyone has a ever maintained a reef aquarium you know how terrifying and smart those damn things are. Incredibly hard to capture or kill before they can decimate your livestock. This dude is genius if not a little crazy for not caring if he loses a finger or two.
Looks like he's got this down.
Correct me of I'm wrong but this is another mantis shrimp species. This one has praying mantis like front legs. Not the one with the clobbers.
I'm sure loosing a finger or two is just a fact of life over there where ever that is. Let's be happy for the fingers we have.
@@anomynous879 yes this type of mantis spears/harpoons it’s prey instead of clubbing it.
You won't lose a finger, stop spreading false info.
Awesome technique
Marine biologist- "Such a fascinating creature with the most complex eyes and the fastest movement of all predators."
Locals- "Yeah and it tastes pretty good too."
That’s nature for you. So utterly amazing in its complexity, but at the end of the day everything gets “eaten”
The risky part is untying it from the trap. I still sweated for him.
Respect and focus when getting these mantis shrimps, good job for this one ;)
;)
You're very fortunate to live in such a beautiful part of the world, to be able to catch your food daily, and just enjoy the weather. Thank you for sharing a 'snapshot' of your life with us. I thoroughly enjoyed it.

Ternyata budaya kita dalam menangkap hasil laut banyak ragamnya Dan lebih lestari utk kelangsungan sumber hayati Terimakasih utk anak negri yg telah membuka mata dunia ...inilah #INDONESIA ....... !
What a complex and sophisticated catching device! I can't actually see how it works.
I think, it's pretty simillar with basic deer trap, but instead of using rattan/young tree's flexibility, it uses slingshot's rubber.
Kontennya bagus bang. Mengedukasi.

Gewet hedeh kak.....se acomen reng luar negri kabbi
wow, but how do you set the traps? very interesting, enjoy
Very cool! Seeing you dig at the mantis shrimps' holes with your hands is a good reminder that for all their reputation as psycho killing machines, they're still shrimp, and we are the alpha predator. They have more reason to fear us than we have to fear them. :)
'they're still shrimp'
``The first thing to clarify is that despite the name these amazing animals are not actually shrimp at all, they belong to the group stomatopods, and have more in common with lobsters than actual shrimp.``
Sadly, the greed of fishing companies has contributed to depleted fish stocks in many parts of the world. Our future generations are being robbed of natural food resources as they lose their ability to regenerate due to extreme overfishing 😞☹️😞

These are phenomenal when sauteed with garlic and olive oil. If this fellow invested in a small net, he could probably catch 'em a lot faster
How would a small net help him to catch them faster since they are in dens under ground? If you could educate me a little I would appreciate it.

This is so cool. I didn't know shrimp live in sand.
They're not they're called stomatopods far far away from the shrimp family. Look up peacock mantis shrimp they pack a punch 😃
Wow. We used to pull up hundreds of these "thumb-splitters" as by-catch when I used to work on a shrimp boat. But they were dangerous to handle and I was told they were NOT good to eat. We considered them cockroaches of the sea and sent them back. I'd like to see how they are prepared.
And you fell for that ruse . Somebody went after those discards and had a feast , lol😁 As kids in the Philippines, we scavenged the low tides , harvested and dug all sorts of clams , sea cucumbers, sea snails , crabs . As a naive novice , I fell for the ruse of a scammer in training teen who divested me of the best of my bounty saying those were not edible. He grew up to be a good for nothing adult.
