This game was more indicative of how great the Panthers are offensively tbh. They’ve been pulling off these comebacks all season, It just so happens that it was against the Leaf’s this time. I wouldn’t go too hard on the Leafs for this loss. This is just what the Panthers do. It was a b2b, Leafs got three points out of it. If I was a Leafs fan I wouldn’t be that stressed.
It was a b2b in which the leafs blew a 5-1 lead. Doesn’t matter who’s in net, leafs defense and offense completely cratered. Also Steve claims 3 on 3 is meaningless but then lost his damn mind when the leafs won in OT… hmmmmmm
I got home at 5 - 1, rewound the game to watch from the beginning, so I was way behind real-time. When it became 5-3 I checked the final score online, so I wouldn't have to experience it the hard way. I knew... or at least suspected.
When kallgren let in that long slapper from gudas i kinda knew the panthers were gonna mount a comeback...but i feel like the leafs let off on the gas pedal rather than the panthers going full offense mode...3 out of 4 points in florida is still pretty good
The Leafs let up with a 5-1 lead... most likely because they played the night before. Reilly also over played 2 plays resulting in easy goals. He's supposed to be a great defenseman but his defense is sometimes very questionable.
@@zachlesk5685 Leafs did have more though... especially crucial is that missed overtime slash against Tavares on the hands that prevented him from potting the breakaway.
Justin Holl has become Jake Gardner. Popular with the guys, with occasional good plays, but bonehead mistakes at critical times, complete inability to move players out from the front of the net, and really bad giveaways. Boosh has to come back in. Also, Nylander has to stop floating. His sloppy, half-effort play cost us two goals. Funny how nobody is mentioning that. He gets a great goal and everyone forgets.
We can only hope that Sandin is healthy and gets a couple of games before the playoffs. There's no way in hell Holl should be playing. I would even consider scratching Muzzin in favour of Lily pad.
@@xCestLaVie1 ya he also has not been good this year people don’t want to outright admit it and his experience will always win out when deciding who sits
Drew's editing is so good. Don't ever change Drew. Also, should've maybe put up that the other 5-1 lead that was blown this year was against the Avs says no biased Avalanche fan.
I’ve said it before, I’ll say it again - the mid-2000s Senators, early 2010s Sharks, and the current Maple Leafs are all the same team, in essence. All the talent, all the skill, and yet unable to put it all together for one full cup run. The Leafs still have a chance to shake that label, but that window won’t be open for very long.
As long as there is time left in a game, if you can go and score 5, the other team can do the same. It is the capability of the other team, FLA has always been best in the 3rd.
Holl has to be the odd man out. Brodie and Muzzin, try it. Don't break up Gio and Lily. Put Boosh back with Reilly, they worked fine. Muzzin needs a breakout guy, and someone reliable. Holl is an enigma with Muzzin because he didn't suck quite as much. This is the time to find out if it really is Muzzin that is the problem, especially with Sandin on the mend.
I hate to say it but Muzzin needs to sit out. The Leafs D pairings were great without him. He comes back into the fold and they immediately go back to blowing a huge lead. It doesn't take a genius to see what the common denominator is here. The last 2 Panthers goals in regulation, he was all alone behind the Leafs net while the Panthers played catch and shoot in front of campbell. I'm still trying to figure out what he was doing back there.
100% agree. I think even if Muzzin wasn’t back we should be sitting Holl out. Aside from the occasional nice breakout pass the guys completely lost out there. Next time he’s in front of the net just pay attention to his awareness. He’s looking into the stars while his man creeps in behind him
I get that it was 5-1 and they blew it but come on. It's a back to back, they've played 4 games in 6 days. Its against the only team in the league who has scored MORE goals than the Leafs, who were well rested.... and the Leafs had a mid game goalie change due to injury. If there was ever a game to cut them some slack for running out of gas half way through, its this one. I'm not worried about this one.
@@Oldmanflyfishing Classic one sentence response from a boomer that adds absolutely nothing of value. The reason he listed so many caveats is he understands its a trend, and is trying to show how this deviates from the other blown leads.
Problem is they are the only team in the league who regularly does it! So yes it should be concerning because they prove time and time again they can't hold leads in pressure situations or when the other team starts getting momentum. This will be their demise in the playoffs.
I tend to agree. it def was a dumpster fire. But burn the game tape and move on. that said, no, no, NOOOO to Hall and Muzzin. no more. Hall should b in the press box. brodie and muzzin should play together. put lyubushkin back with Reilly. gio and liljegren. that's your top 6

Sadly the leafs looked exhausted towards the end of the game and Florida looked like they got a burst of energy after they started coming back. Matthew's is one of the best players in the world but on the game winner it was clear he was too tired to keep up..the legs weren't there in the second half, but they have played a lot of meaningful hockey and got some huge wins of late. Can't win them all and to get outta Florida with 3 of a possible 4 points is still not bad even though they should have had that game locked down.
The Leafs are 33-2-1 when leading going into the 3rd this season, chill. All other teams blow leads - it just doesn’t get discussed all over the NHL like when the Leafs do

Did you expect a guy coming in from a game against tampa to have a shut out against the best offense in the league after they started heating up? They got 3 of 4 points, Worry if they look bad after this” This game was really fun to watch and still gives me hope in ways as a leaf fan
The Leafs forgot to trim at least one of the claws, and felt the wrath of the kitty cat. 3/4 points in Florida. Take that any day. Good video Steve! #jobrob
I know the goalies are going to get a lot of flack on both sides for this but if you have a 7-6 game, that on the defense too....yes I am a goalie but no this isn't bias towards my fellow pad brothers. :P But you know what it was nice of the Leafs, they came out in the second and said "We're the Leafs, we are here, look at what we can do." only to later comfort everybody by also saying "But don't worry, we're still the Leafs." by blowing the lead. But seriously nothing but respect for all Leafs fans, most teams a big lead like that we all relax, it's a 5 goal lead, we're fine. Not for you guys. There was a long time joke in Rangerstown that in the playoffs we all had our cardiologists on speed dial. I feel like Leafsnation it's the same thing whenever they hold a multigoal lead and the playoffs too. Also my favourite line in this video: "...threw his stick at the guy, who told him to do that? THE DEMONS DID!" :P
Not just 5 feet from the net... every one of them had at least TWO Panthers BEHIND the Leafs defenders. I get better defense playing pickup hockey with the oldtimers on Wednesday nights.
What's interesting about all of this (and not mentioned at all) ....Panthers scored the go-ahead goal on a direct trip to Marner in the Panther's zone. It gave them possession of the puck and an odd-man rush. Also, Tavares had the game winning goal on his stick, alone in front and got hooked on his shooting arm. No call. Panthers rushed to the other end and scored. If that gets called, Panthers do NOT win this particular game. I believe Bunting got his stick slashed out of his hands in the offensive zone, potentially killing off a scoring opportunity. Of course, there were Leaf infractions that were not called either, however, these ones really stick out in my mind a things that shaped the outcome of this particular game. While definitely, the blown lead is a tough pill to swallow, the refs not calling things during critical points in the game pretty clearly changed the dynamics of the game and dictated the eventual winner.
Leafs scored goal 2 because a leaf grabbed a panthers stick and dove, getting a powerplay - then goal 4 because Marner slashed the stick out of the defensemans hand, keeping the puck in the zone. This helped them get the lead they had and were the ones that stuck out to me
My take on Kallgren tonight. Concussed by the Marchment hit (Why is this allowed?) Gudas goal because Kallgren is shook and is trying to play through a concussion. Puck to the head and Kallgren calls it and leaves.

honestly, not too concerned about this loss. Did we allow 5 straight goals? yes. You know who also allowed 5 straight? The Florida Panthers. It was 1 - 0 Florida and we made it 5 - 1. Both teams exposed eachother, panthers are desperately missing ekblad and Toronto can’t defend the front of the net. I would be worried if I was a fan of either of these teams
Jason Spezza said it best ... when you have a 5 - 1 lead you should be able to lock that down. It is back to back, and the goalie got hurt again, but at the same time I think this should have been a win - Not something to panic about but they need to solve holding down leads asap and get the best defensive pairings established - Giordano was huge in this regard but they need to limit chances and shut teams down that late in the game with 2+ goal lead.

when Gudas scored I was like yeah that's it
gudas scored in their 6-2 comeback vs the devils. when he scores on anyone not named david rittich, florida is about to pour it on offensively
I got home at 5 - 1, rewound the game to watch from the beginning, so I was way behind real-time. When it became 5-3 I checked the final score online, so I wouldn't have to experience it the hard way. I knew... or at least suspected.
*actual moment everyone knew:* _terrible gudas goal_
When kallgren let in that long slapper from gudas i kinda knew the panthers were gonna mount a comeback...but i feel like the leafs let off on the gas pedal rather than the panthers going full offense mode...3 out of 4 points in florida is still pretty good
That and the missed tackle on Mitch. 🤦♂️ and when kallgren got Injured knew it was very very bad .
Ya that's a positive way to look at. Sucks for the loss blowing a lead like that but 3 out of 4 points in Florida is damn good
@@koskara1314 both teams had missed penalties, your reasoning is invalid there
The Leafs let up with a 5-1 lead... most likely because they played the night before.
I knew once I heard holl and muzzin are paired together.
I feel Steve was really holding back on this LFR to go off on tomorrows podcast
when blackwell scored i had this little voice in my head screaming “AND IT WAS 4-1!!!“ then muzzin scored to make it 5-1 but the voice didnt go away
Oh I haven't forgot about Nolander. I have said they need to sit Holl and Nolander and see how they play .
Great episode! LET'S GO PANTHERS 😼
i couldn't wait for this lfr given steve's comments last video about the leafs finally holding onto a lead
The Justin Holl experiment is over he had a fun run last year but he’s coming out and he is definitely not in the game 1 starting lineup
We can only hope that Sandin is healthy and gets a couple of games before the playoffs. There's no way in hell Holl should be playing. I would even consider scratching Muzzin in favour of Lily pad.
@@chamber32doors run the lines during his injury
Holl hasn't been bad this year though, I think Muzzin really lost his step.
As a Canucks and Vegas fan, I know all about my teams blowing big leads!
Fantastic content as always steve. If I could subscribe twice I would.
as soon as i seen the highlights i knew i had to watch Dangle covering this game. Your pain is my joy, please never stop :)
Oh no! two slow d men… Nop don’t do it!!
@@craigharrison5406 you’re everywhere lol
Gio and Liljegren seemed to play the best defensively last night out of the defense pairs.
100% agree. I think even if Muzzin wasn’t back we should be sitting Holl out. Aside from the occasional nice breakout pass the guys completely lost out there. Next time he’s in front of the net just pay attention to his awareness. He’s looking into the stars while his man creeps in behind him
The Leafs got Tired and when they get tired they get sloppy. Tenderfoot goalie but I am thinking what Holl has done to deserve getting the nod.
@steve I never want to see muzzin and Holl on the same line ever. Again.
Does this still count as blowing a 3-1 lead?
It's not a 3-1 lead, it's a 3+1 lead!
You should be, because its a trend.
@@Oldmanflyfishing I mean compared to other trends this is the least often one
Bonehead moves tonight:
1. Scratching Lybushkin
2. Playing Muzzin
Combo: reunite the Muzzin - Holl pairing
5:56 is my favourite part 😂 thank you for making our suffering as leafs fans more bearable when we can laugh at our shortcomings
And you know what makes it better, look who may be on the horizon.
Boston.
I like watching Steve happy.
Not a leafs fan; but the dog gets treats, and that vein in his head goes down.
But when I see a score like this... it's a must click
Every team they play know its very possible that they can and will come back and win against them ! No matter the deficit !
When they lost this game I kid you not I laughed for a good 5-10 minutes, Steve is not the only one turning into the joker
Sitting Holl for Boosh is the most obvious move.
This may be the best ever thumbnail on a UA-cam video
Wow I'm this early to a LFR? I'm a Kraken fan, what time warp did I enter?!
Considering my canes lost to buffalo last night. It’s just nice to see other frustrated fans. Luv your channel.
Steve, as a fan of your videos, I always think about you when the Leafs choke if that makes you feel better
I already know the grey scale flashbacks are 100% on Producer Drew. And I love it
Another video, another day to Steve becoming the real life joker
I ask this question, "are Leaf fans confident with Campbell/Kallgren duo in goal to start a playoff series ?? And this constant softness in front of their own net! Not a good combination to hang your hat on in playoff hockey. Steve is right, the demons are still about!
No, they won’t get past the first round having subpar goaltending and Jake Muzzin and Justin Holl playing together. They’re toast.
Fine with Campbell he was a 9.34% and 1.88ga last playoffs. Its keefe, holl and muzz im worried about.
@@jaym8346 I actually think Keefe "Coached" them out of a win last year against the Habs, when he sat Sandin directly after a big Win in which he scored a huge powerplay goal, so that he could keep Dermott in circulation. Stop tinkering goddamnit and let your team get chemistry.
I appreciate the Red Dragon reference.
Lets go cats!
The curse of Harold Ballard will end one day...
I do love Steve's rants when they lose... the best on UA-cam!
As a habs fan, these Leafs lost videos are the only thing I was looking foward to this year! thank you
They gonna learn from this game and comeback stronger!
FOOL
The Leafs are 33-2-1 when leading going into the 3rd this season, chill. All other teams blow leads - it just doesn’t get discussed all over the NHL like when the Leafs do
But this isn’t a problem that is occurring only this season… this has been happening to the leafs for 7 years?
The biggest mistake was putting holl and muzzin together again. It didn't work the first time. Or the second. And 3rd time is NOT the charm. We had something good going why go back to something that doesn't work
wow highest quality editing i have seen yet
What’s the leaf record this season with Muzzin in the line up? Something isn’t right.
The Leafs being bad is Steve Dangle's muse for poetry. That whole demon analogy segue, and then bringing it back to this game was done with such poetic flow my dude lmao
Steve you have a loyalty to your leafs. I Wish I could have for my Texans. You're the perfect version of being a fan. Through good and bad up and down. You're there.
You're awesome Steve. Bruins fan here, 100$ on the leafs to get to the final, and beat the Avs. Hell of a team this year.. truly. But if it's B's laughs in the first round this year, you know.... YOU KNOW....... SORRY
As a Panther fan, i wish they were as efficient on ST as the Leafs. The Leafs are as effective on ST as the Lightning were last season which is what doomed the Panthers. Quick pass shoot. Panthers forget that last part.
Definitely. We have a TON of playmakers and no shooters. Barky trying to be the one.
People just love to hate on this team. Playing 4 games in 6 nights finally caught up to them. But they still scored 6 goals against one of the top teams in the NHL who were well rested. I think the Leafs are good and ready for the playoffs
Every team has stretches of 4 games in 6 nights, and guess what, the good teams can actually hold on to a 5-1 lead on the second half of a back to back
@@zachlesk5685And good teams can also blow a 5 to 1 lead and lose in ot. The Leafs just showed you that. Doesn't change a thing.
@@zachlesk5685 most teams just would have lost 7-1 rather than 7-6. You act like playing 4 games in 6 nights and getting a 5-1 lead on the panthers on the road is a situatuon any team could find themselves in lol
They were visibly gassed into the 2nd period. It wasn't a mental game they lost at all, they actually fought for OT when they lost the lead. I'm one of the biggest leafs pessimists but I cant deny noticing how tired they were before the comeback. I'd be much more upset if it was a lack of mental toughness.
Yeah but it always seems to happen to the leafs huh… wonder why
They are so good, like scary good at times of late, it really stuns me the Demons have lasted this long. I think probably the thing I am most excited to see this playoffs is how the Leafs and Panthers perform.
It wasn't demons it was keefe. He decided to keep playing the worst d pairing we have. Not 2 mention he dropped our best defensive dman. Holl n muzz allow a pk goal and they're out again on the next pk. They allowed another pk goal and guess what, keefe keeps putting them back out. Yet he drops boosh cause he claims he didnt hve a great game against Tampa. I bet keefes dumbass will still have holl n muzz in next game.
Congrats on the boost of viewership
Apologies beforehand, but everytime I see the box score showing TO lost before I go to bed, leaves me with that warm fuzzy feeling that there will be a video waiting for me in the morning where Steve Dangle's head explodes. Morning coffee, St. Viateur bagels and Dangle's head exploding are a staple many a morning. I can't wait for the playoffs
Went to the Sens-Pathers game the other week.
Their speciality is chipping away at deficits and crawling back. I'm not surprised the leafs dropped it.
But at least the Sens pushed it to a shootout yknow
Ngl this game was one of those game that made me ignore the stats leaf hater would say to me.
Like “oh you guys blew yet another 5-1 lead” and my instant response was “What? Did you expect a guy coming in from a game against tampa to have a shut out against the best offense in the league after they started heating up? They got 3 of 4 points, Worry if they look bad after this”
This game was really fun to watch and still gives me hope in ways as a leaf fan
Um... Go Avs!!!
I can't say I'm not a little let down by how well you took that. What an insane year for goals. Every game seems to have plenty.
"I kind of forgot to do that sometimes" had my dying of laughter
It wasn't that funny shut up
Casual Toronto meltdown. Another casual Panthers comeback. I cry myself to sleep.
But you know what it was nice of the Leafs, they came out in the second and said "We're the Leafs, we are here, look at what we can do." only to later comfort everybody by also saying "But don't worry, we're still the Leafs." by blowing the lead.
This was one of my faborite episodes. I laughed so much at this one
4:10
That snarl😭💀
Not just 5 feet from the net... every one of them had at least TWO Panthers BEHIND the Leafs defenders. I get better defense playing pickup hockey with the oldtimers on Wednesday nights.
I knew it when Gudas scored. He doesn't score that, we win this game no question. Oh well
Remember when Babcock thought Holl was an AHL defencemen at most and sat him all the time ?
I agree, we can't blame the refs for this game but some of those no calls had a direct affect on the outcome.
Leafs scored goal 2 because a leaf grabbed a panthers stick and dove, getting a powerplay - then goal 4 because Marner slashed the stick out of the defensemans hand, keeping the puck in the zone. This helped them get the lead they had and were the ones that stuck out to me
Leafs had 7 power plays. Kinda hard to blame refs for this one.
@@shiro1744 its not about powerplays, its about stop unfair play.
Yea, but you don't get every call. in minor hockey they tell you that. don't play like shit when you're not getting the calls
My take on Kallgren tonight.
Concussed by the Marchment hit (Why is this allowed?)
Gudas goal because Kallgren is shook and is trying to play through a concussion.
Puck to the head and Kallgren calls it and leaves.
He’s not ready for late season / playoff NHL action. Let’s face it. First 2 games everyone thought he was the answer. He’s not. We’re in goalie trouble and those are can’t see it are going to be disappointed.

Funny how you brought up that stat of the Leaf record versus East teams currently in the playoffs. Would love to see what the Leaf record has been against East non-playoff teams since Feb. 1 LOL And a gentle reminder, that the Leafs are playing the Habiturds this weekend 😆
For the full season they are 7-5-0 against the 4 bottom Atlantic(Montreal, Ottawa, Red Wings and Buffalo), since February 1st they are 1-4-0 against the same teams. They play Montreal on Saturday and Buffalo on Tuesday
-Say the line, Bart.
-Leafs blow a 4 goal lead.
-YAAAAAAYYYY!!!;
if holl plays in the playoffs we may have another case of the "Gardiner Express"
honestly, not too concerned about this loss. Did we allow 5 straight goals? yes. You know who also allowed 5 straight? The Florida Panthers. It was 1 - 0 Florida and we made it 5 - 1. Second half of a back to back against the two best teams in the league, 3 out of 4 points. Pretty decent in my books
Both teams exposed eachother, panthers are desperately missing ekblad and Toronto can’t defend the front of the net. I would be worried if I was a fan of either of these teams
Jason Spezza said it best ... when you have a 5 - 1 lead you should be able to lock that down. It is back to back, and the goalie got hurt again, but at the same time I think this should have been a win - Not something to panic about but they need to solve holding down leads asap and get the best defensive pairings established - Giordano was huge in this regard but they need to limit chances and shut teams down that late in the game with 2+ goal lead.
the too many men penalty + conversion was when I knew. Also Holl was so bad it hurt my eyes
Steve, can you DM me when "the feeling" starts to seep in? I'd love to make some serious bank off of Leafs blowing 5-1 leads in the future.
After that 3 Rd goal went in I knew....ohh well 3/4 in Florida....Go Leafs Go!!!
It must take some insane willpower to be a Leafs fan cause wow...
