It is such a breath of fresh air to hear a review about an older product!!! I buy older products all the time and most of the time it’s impossible to find a newer review of them. Recently I got into makeup geek and I feel like there’s not that many reviews on their new revamped products. So thank you, this review was so helpful!!! I honestly love your makeup reviews so much!
Happy to help! And yeah, it’s perplexing - I know that novelty is exciting, but I wish older products got more love. There are some incredible hidden gems out there!
I am one of the converted. I bought it after watching Mandy Davis talk about this. I have combo skin, with a slightly oily T zone. This pressed powder is perfect for me. I am a huge fan of the Chanel Eau de Teint, but this gives me a mild demi matte finish, which becomes luminous after my oils peek through. The key is to apply it with downward strokes. It means it won't pick up the tiny hairs on the face. Their handy brush is very good for application. I use Golden Glow, and literally just ordered Warm Sienna for my winter colour. I am B30 in most Chanel foundations and Light-Medium in L'Oreal.
Foundation has seriously been my nemesis. It's like I woke up the day after I turned 50 and suddenly nothing works with more coverage than a tinted moisturizer. Everything dries out my already dry skin or breaks up in moments and makes my skin look like a jigsaw puzzle. I have to say I would never think that a powder foundation of all things would work but that looks so nice on you! And so fast.
I can’t get over how quick this one is to apply. It was actually reading all the dry/sensitive reviewers singing the praises of this that made me go for this one, and I gotta say - glad I did!
@@AliceintheRabbitHole So, I had to pop over to tell you that this morning I seem to have succeeded with a foundation that I previously was not able to use, by changing up two items. First, I used for the first time the nyx hydrating jelly primer. Second, an e.l.f. sponge, which I'd purchased a while back but hadn't cracked open yet. So, no brushes, this particular hydrating primer (others hadn't really done the trick), and this particular sponge. I can't wait to try this method with all of my other long list of rejected foundations.
I used this when I was 30 I stopped cuz couldn’t find locally…back before internet shopping was so easy. Lmao FF I am 52 and found my way back to JI. U would never know I had dry skin and use a powder foundation.
My color is golden glow and it's the only mineral powder foundation that's ever matched me. I'm about a NC30, NARS Stromboli, strong olive light/medium yellow undertone skin color! Love love love this foundation!
Yes, thank you! I have a similar skin tone from the sound of it and I’m finishing up the BareMinerals BarePro powder in a now-discontinued shade (Camel 17) so I’m gonna explore other powders.
Dual Finish from Lancome is a great powder base for dry skin because it has mineral oil, which keeps It from being too drying and the applicator is great too. Maybe it's my phone but the JIredale colors look very yellow. Glad you enjoy it.
Lancôme really does makeup well. I hear that Clinique suddenly surged in popularity with a younger crowd; I wonder if the same will happen with Lancôme?
@@AliceintheRabbitHole when I worked at Sephora in Scottsdale AZ Clinique was our top line. And we had lines like Nars and Becca. Clinique skincare has a focus on acne/oily skin which makes it popular with a young crowd. I love Lancome skincare and makeup and wish that Belk still carried the line. Boohoo.
For reference, I am a cross between Warm Sand/Cool Sand in Bobbi Brown, but, for a very long time (at least 15 years now), I have only worn Jane Iredale Pressed Powder as my foundation. I have worn Suntan, Golden Glow and Riviera, but only Riviera for the past 10 years or so. Recently I began thinking that I was looking a little too muddy with Riviera, so with the help of a Jane Iredale phone advisor, I figured out that the slightly lighter Suntan would be my best shade. Thanks to the Ulta sale, I was able to stock up on it, and am now using it as my main shade, with Riviera only around the perimeters of my face. Perfect! BTW, I use mostly cream blushes -- they create such a nice little glow over the powder.
Thanks so much for sharing! So glad I listened and went for this too, whew is it nice for when I’m not feeling the full glam. SO fast, but looks great!
This set up looks awesome. Happy to see Cheshire back. I spotted the wee white rabbit 🐰 and I really like that mirrored display! I forgot to say earlier, but I also appreciate when you show product on that plate, it gives a really great visual of the product.
I'm a light-medium skin tone and what surprised me is how light the powders are. After going to a Spa and trying 3 different shades on in the light-medium family, I ended up purchasing Latte - it blended right in!?! So, before you start ordering online, definitely go somewhere you can try it on!
I have normal skin but large pores. This is the best powder foundation I’ve ever used! Got it recommended by a dermatologist after I’ve had a treatment and I absolutely love it! I use Golden Glow in the summer and Suntan in the winter. It’s actually a lighter shade even if the name is Suntan. It’s so much better than Id bare minerals powder foundation and I also like it better than PurMinerals, than I also loved before I started using Jane Iredale. I’ve just ordered Laura Geller baked and balance brighten & color correcting foundation in the shade Light, I’m looking forward to testing that. I’m a bit skeptical if it will be too glowy and make my pores look larger, will be interesting to see. Thank you for the review!
I was on amazon and they have a box kit u know what Cassie Holmes and physicians phormula colab use to do ware u hate the packaging but it's a jane iredale kit u get 2 colors of the foundation a blush 2 colors of the pressed eye shadow and a lip balm and a brush for 36$ I mean cant beat that to try out all those products and if u can depot and put it in a z pallet of ur own it's a really good deal. O and the way u pick out the color if probably easier it goes light, med light, med, med dark, dark u know like that and the 2 colors is a good idea to easy to find one that works or to mix. * lol I wanted to say I acually didnt buy the kit or foundation first but I did put it in the cart then came and watched ur reveiw video🤣
I tried this during the sale also along with the bareMinerals powder! I actually cheaped out and only bought the powder and just keep it in the packaging lol I’m gonna try to work with it again today I definitely screwed up on my shade pick I really wish I went with bisque! I was hoping to use it more as a setting powder because my sunscreen can leave me looking greasy even though I have very dry skin. I think I’d like it better paired with a different sunscreen and obviously having the right shade would be ideal lol thank you for the review!
JI- shades- yes tricky- her foundations liquid and power have the same color names. The colors are NOT the same…I am light-medium (summer) with olive undertones. I go a shade darker in their loose base (golden glow). In their pressed powder My perfect shade is Sienna I did snag golden glow pressed in Ulta sale. Their mineral liquid is a great, has a slight learning curve very thin product so go up a shade (golden glow). I want to try their BB cream next. I am so glad you tried it and liked it. I know u were debating it. Awesome review w detailed tips. Especially the brushes and primer. I agree about the cheap silver compact. The gold one was very sturdy and miffed i tossed it in a move. JI doesn’t get the buzz she deserves. They stand behind ALL their products, Customer service is great too. Lol this was long and I swear I don’t work for them. Keep up your honest content. Hugs from Tampa. ❤️
I almost had a setup with the DDG, then I almost had a setup with the canmake - but ultimately both got canned (for the sardines bag, of course - aaah? 😏) Idk moving stuff around now so - it may still get it’s spotlight!
Never have any luck with powder foundation ... they don’t seem to be kind to my sensitive combo late 40s skin … however, it looks wonderful on you! I am very interested in the new Tower 28 tinted sunscreen foundation. Can’t wait to hear your thoughts on it! Have you tried the Supergoop 100% mineral cc cream? If so what are your thoughts on that one?
It’s a thrift store find! It’s meant to be a perfume tray lying flat, but I like the look of it on it’s side (not loving the reflection on camera so it’ll probably go from the background, but was a really fun find for around the house!)
The compacts irritate me. They are super cheap. Totally not worth it. I bought a large magnetic one and it holds 3 full size products. I don't take compact powder foundations in my purse cuz they break. I will bring loose powder (not JI tho; I will bring one with a lock sifter cap). But this is a super great foundation. Used it over 20 years ago and went back a few years ago. I also love the loose version too. Both are great. Even as I get older it still looks great on my skin but a good brush matters and good skin prep. I do an oil massage cleanse every few weeks and this keeps my skin super smooth. Recently discovered cotton muslin cloths too. Loving those. Also use tallow on my skin and makes all the difference as I get older. It is a game changer. I am now in my 50's and the powder foundations still look great on my skin. 🙂 I use the Warm Sienna (lighter in the pressed version than the loose) and the Golden Glow. I sometimes use the Latte if I get a lot of sun. The warm sienna is a soft peachy tone; the pressed leans a good half shade lighter than the loose & is a bit more yellow; the golden glow is a nice warm golden shade; again the pressed is lighter and more yellow than the loose; and the latter is more bronze; same story. Coverage is great and looks flawless after a spritz of rosewater. 🙂
Same, I just don’t understand having such a cheap compact for such a nice foundation!! Did you see they recently came out with a new compact? I hope it’s better this time!
@@AliceintheRabbitHole Yeah I hope so too. I think a lot of people complained. Maybe I will get one if they ever have a sale or find one on eBay. 🙂
I still can't figure out a shade to buy in this powder foundation. Every time I see a review nobody even says their shade and they always push the rest of the products the primer and setting spray goes with it and u have to get it so it looks it's best 🤣
Ehhh I use sunscreen as primer the most now (although Youthforia’s primer stacked so nicely over spf in the winter months - still my fav). JI’s mist is ok, but I prefer peach & lily’s I wonder if any Ulta’s carry JI in store so you could get color matched?
