That's so much information to take in, Jen! Thanks for talking about all these new books, none of which I had heard about. It's really good to see you again, and to hear your daughter out in the autumn leaves!
I’ve got the Wyld, the Phillips, the Moss, the Ogawa, and the Pineiro here waiting to be read. I am about halfway through The Echoes but haven’t picked it up for quite some time. I was finding the time spent in Australia to be very dull. I will go back and finish it at some point. I was surprised how much longer the new Pineiro book is too. And the font is not the most comfortable for tired eyes. But I am looking forward to reading it. Hum is probably the next one in this group that I’ll get to. Just picked up Rumaan Alam’s new one yesterday. Not sure if it will be anything like Leave the World Behind (which I loved), but I’m going to give it a go! I will take a look at the new Max Porter.
Really excited for Stag Dance by Torrey Peters in March, and I've already ordered The Sapling Cage, which will be my first Margaret Killjoy! :) Also, I'm *obsessed* with the idea behind the Gliff/Glyff books by Ali Smith!
Definitely up for: The Echoes by Evie Wyld, Gliff/Glyph by Ali Smith, My Good Bright Wolf by Sarah Moss, And have now added :Time of the Flies by Claudia Pineiro, She’s Always Hungry by Eliza Clark, Hum by Helen Phillips Thank you!
Oooh I had no idea Ali Smith was coming out with new books, and a two-piece at that! It sounds wonderful. Also many other very intriguing books I'd not heard of, thank you for the lovely video!
I have already pre ordered a copy of She’s Always Hungry, I absolutely loved both of Eliza Clark’s novels when I read them earlier this year and cannot wait to sink my teeth into her short stories 🎉
Honestly Jen, you're costing me a lot of money 😅 If you mention a book, it will go straight on my wishlist. I'm so glad to see you back on youtube and love the little squeals on the background ❤
Read My Good Bright Wolf all in one sitting just yesterday. Have been on a Sarah Moss kick recently after reading Ghost Wall a couple of weeks ago and being blown away. I'm also excited for Gunk by Saba Sams!
Honestly, I hadn’t heard of any of these! A bunch of my most anticipated releases this year turned out to be duds, so here’s hoping fall and winter books are better.
I really enjoyed Mystery Lights--one of my favorite short story collections this year. And thanks for the head's up on Victorian Psycho, that definitely sounds up my alley. Also...congrats on your forthcoming book!
Hey, just wanted to flag that the Sarah Moss book is very much about her life-long struggle with anorexia, in case there are any other people with past history of eating disorders who are not in the right frame of mind to read about that topic!
Always here for an Ali Smith - I’ve read everything I think, so having or reread until a new one arrives! My favourite Evie Wyld so far is After the Fire but I haven’t got to the new one yet. And great to have a new Claudia Pineiro - Elena Knows was my favourite book that year too, such an interesting discussion of female body autonomy from the perspective of someone who has virtually lost all autonomy through her health.
I couldn't agree with you more about 'Think Again'. I do have some negative thoughts about it BUT I refuse to be let down by it because I loved the 'Girls' series (obvs-who didn't?!) and I was so excited for this follow up!
@@jenvcampbell I have now read it and I have thoughts! I loved that it was an easy, nostalgic read. I had a lovely time reading it. HOWEVER...I wanted more of the friendship between the girls! And I really did not like the relationship that took over most of the book, a lot of it gave me the Ick! In the same sentence she was describing him as being 'lovely', then listing all the horrible things he did. Also I didn't like how it was indicated that she must be gay because she didn't like the way a man was acting around her. He was just a dick! I'm very happy I read it and was able to revisit it years later but I was also really disappointed!
@@katyfolk3433 It's tricky, as I believe that a lot of it was based on the author's own experiences re. coming out. I loved a lot about it - despite the absolute lack of character development from teenagers to 40-somethings, ha. I would have loved more of their friendship, too, though, and more about her family, actually. Also, the errors made me giggle, and I'm surprised no one caught them in the editing process. For instance, Mr. Windsor was never called Gary; his name was Guy! x
Glad to see you back! A few of these are definitely on my radar too (My Good Bright Wolf, She's Always Hungry and The Strange Case of Jane O), and I've already read some of them. I loved The Echoes, but was very disappointed by Mystery Lights. Also DID YOU JUST CASUALLY DROP THE FACT THAT YOU'RE ANNOUNCING A NEW BOOK SOON?!?!
@@jenvcampbell overall, I liked many of the stories “vibes”, but didn’t ultimately didn’t go anywhere. Many felt like they fizzled out before they reached any sort of conclusion or climax. That might just be me and my personal experience though… I can’t wait to hear about your next project. I’ll be staying tuned.
Thank you for linking to the Japanese Novella Series list I created on Goodreads - I hope at least some people find it useful. Looking forward to your reviews of the novella titles you haven't got round to reading yet!
The book I am most looking forward to next year is the new Torrey Peters. And second to that is the new book by Omar El Akkad. I loved What Strange Paradise, so am looking forward to a new book by him. But there is still one backlist book of his I haven't read.
I'm about halfway through Mina's Matchbox and I'd say it's just OK, but I'm enjoying it nonetheless. Very Ghibli like, cosy and whimsical, and some really beautiful writing. I'm most excited for Victorian Psycho, sounds so good! An Yu also has a new book out next year, Sunbirth; as does Nell Stevens, The Original.
In the states there’s been mostly reviews of Creation Lake. I doubt that that means anything but interesting. I haven’t read any of them. But I always read the winner if it sounds good. I have too many TBR books and I’m old.
Jen, do you have any other info on the Max Porter book? I keep hitting walls trying to buy it. I don't care if it's signed or not. He's an auto-buy for me, so I have to find it! Can you share the isbn? Any advice?
@@onourpath Nope. I bought the book myself and I'm not a member. Here's the link: roughtradebooks.com/collections/books/products/all-of-this-unreal-time-max-porter-foreword-by-cillian-murphy

The Max Porter/Cillian Murphy film sounds amazing, and with LIVE music by Jon Hopkins?! Will be having serious FOMO about this, but thank you for making me aware!
So many books to add to my tbr.👏👏👏📚 loved hearing your daughter’s little voice.
Congratulations on your new releases! Always look forward to your videos.
I'm absolutely excited for your new books!

Loved Sally Rooney’s INTERMEZZO and Garth Greenwell’s SMALL RAIN. Currently reading, Strout’s TELL ME EVERYTHING. I am excited about Evie Wyld’s book.

That’s a shame about the font! I’m enjoying the London sections more, too, but still really liking it overall x

In love with all the short story ideas in thes upcoming books! I also love the cover art for the new work by Virginia Feito.

I just finished Time of the Flies today and it's a stand alone novel. Loved it! But not as much as Elena Knows.
Technically it’s stand alone, but you miss all the back story of how Ines got to this point.

Which of her other titles would you say it was most similar to? x

Obviously baffled about My Friends not making the cut. I’d love to see Stone Yard Devotional win, though I think James will probably take it.
