To all the people that are complaining that this is not longboarding, well you are right. But you are ALL missing the point because it is meant to act as a simulation for snowboarding. Either way think what you want, in no way is this guy trying to go against longboarding.
I surf, wakeskate, wakeboard, long board. Been doing it all for many years brought a freebord and i love it! They are really hard to get the hang of because i find that they are easier to control with more speed but speed on something that you have no idea how to control is abit sketchy... all the haters are just keyboard warriors get off ya desk and become a freebord warrior.
ryan alfonso Not without a motor like they have in top notch boards that sell for like $1,000-1,500. It’s hard to ride flat ground bc, like the comment said, you need some speed in order to enact the “slide” feeling. For sure get the hang of heel-toe slides by just sitting on a table or bench with the board underneath you and practice the slides - then bomb the hill! (Progressively going higher on a nice hill till you can handle the whole thing) Good luck!
Steep learning curve for sure, especially if you have no background with snowboarding. I'm 40 years old, and I got the hang of it... eventually. It took a couple weeks, But once you start linking turns and slides it's great. So much fun I couldn't stop laughing and smiling. Invest in protection. Pads, helmet and wrist guards are a must in the beginning.
I learned at age 50. Thankfully I’ve been snowboarding since 1985. After several struggling runs with lack of control, I changed to riding it exactly like it was a snowboard and had immediate success. I definitely prefer well paved roads opposed to old fractured pavement. Definitely helps when you’re “jonesin” for snow. Totally agree on full safety gear.
I appreciate that Freebord has put together this beginners guide, it will help point new comers in the right direction. However, I feel that an updated vid may be in order to address some common mistakes that beginner riders make. Maybe even an intermediate vid into how to do more advanced movements, such as spins. My local Freebord scene is flooded with beginners selling freebords because they can't grasp it. Based on my demographic, I feel this is due to a combination of a lack of snowboarding knowledge/technique and minimal tutorials on how to ride it not like a skateboard. More videos please!?
Yea man speed is your friend! I was really frustrated when i first started, i wanst getting slides, only carves. Then you really need to step it up a notch before you can slide. Try loosening the kingpin as well. I found once i bought my full protection gear my confidence shot up alot and thus speed increased.!
Take this from me, freebording is the hardest thing i've ever tried to learn.. But i stuck with it! And now I'm not too bad.. So if you get frustrated,(I guarantee you will) don't quit! It's so fun.

Okay I bought a freebord and I can attest that what I said before still is true. The wheels take a long time to wear down and I use them each day vigorously. The wheels will need replacing but not soon. Some pros also said in a video reply that it takes months for their wheels to need replacing but they are going super fast and they know they always will have access to new wheels so they don't need to take as good of care. with these types of boards you can control the amount of pressure you put on the wheel when power-sliding so you can increase longevity of the wheel.

No this is how you flat spot and waste wheels. Longboard sliding isn’t supposed to be like snowboard sliding. Longboard sliding is used to turn gradually using the lack of friction between the ground and wheels. Snowboards have little to no friction with the snow and the bottom of the board and can carve very nicely. Longboards have to have speed, the higher the speed the less the friction. As you slide you loose speed and gain friction. Snowboards don’t need as much speed to carve.
i skate, snow, long, and am now attempting to freebord. i say attempt because this is harder than all the others plus surfing put together. and whats worse thats concrete waiting for you when you go down at top speed. not water and not snow. mad props to the dude that rock these boards because they make me feel like a tard
gonna try a few of these pointers tomorow mainly the shoulders and turns out the entire time i had been doing the wrong thing with my trucks... need to loosen them up a fair bit now lol
Why the heck is this called "Freebord" the only thing you can do is like slide down a hill with safety wheels on a Ripstik and feet bindings which doesnt give you actual "freeness" at all
I just got my freebord today and it's freaking hard! I snowboard and I'd say I'm pretty good, about intermediate; I longboard as well. But this is way harder than both. People in these freebording videos make it seem easy....
Marc I do slides in my longboard and picking a freeboard up was really wierd. Im getting the hange of it but I would never say there ia no skill needed (I snowboard too)
Marc Could you tell me your reasoning behind that assumption ? It just seems pretty unfounded since you dont even have any argument besides "I have a longboard" which doesnt really make sense.
Listen, if you compare longboard sliding and this… you can say that theres nearly no skill needed, if you have expirienced snowboarding or longboarding (freeride).
... do longboards only use 2 wheels.. the point of this is that most of the time you are pivoting off the 2 center wheels and the other wheels are so you can carve deeper. Longboards are flat 4 wheels... so much easier. its like whats easier, driving a car or riding a motorcycle... yeah

As you slide you loose speed and gain friction. Snowboards don’t need as much speed to carve.
Kevin Walker haha okay a bit of an over reaction to somthing thats not paying the bills
I'm really want to try this and was wondering what size board I should start with I'm 6'1"
WHAAAAAAAT?!?!? I CAN'T HEAR YOU OVER THE EDITING!!!
i skate, snow, long, and am now attempting to freebord. i say attempt because this is harder than all the others plus surfing put together. and whats worse thats concrete waiting for you when you go down at top speed. not water and not snow. mad props to the dude that rock these boards because they make me feel like a tard
All i can see is people wiping the fuck out on this thing
gonna try a few of these pointers tomorow mainly the shoulders and turns out the entire time i had been doing the wrong thing with my trucks... need to loosen them up a fair bit now lol
Why the heck is this called "Freebord" the only thing you can do is like slide down a hill with safety wheels on a Ripstik and feet bindings which doesnt give you actual "freeness" at all
the original board had no bindings. they put them on for when one of there friends had cancer for safety.
you got an "Ötztal" sticker on your board! very cool, it's just 1 hour from my hometown :)
LONGBOARDS ARE BETTER
tips fedora
+Freebord Well it is something different to do that looks cool
just different
in what way
Wow this feels really like snowboarding!
i swear I thought that was a toilet at first...
I just got my freebord today and it's freaking hard! I snowboard and I'd say I'm pretty good, about intermediate; I longboard as well. But this is way harder than both. People in these freebording videos make it seem easy....
Hmm yea it does look easy... I rather stick with my long board
so its a ripstick
Lol no sir
+NiTrO Kaous Haha, I see where you're coming from but nah. It feels nothing like a ripstick.
are the bindings really needed? because longboard hill bombers slide just fine without them
No skill needed .-.
Marc have you tried one?
I have a longboard and I do freeride and stuff like stand up slides. In comparison to longboarding I would say that you don't need skill.
Hey how do you spin around or rotate?? I can do it with snowboard but I haven´t been able to it in my freeboard.
Seriously, longboarding with training wheels haha
... do longboards only use 2 wheels.. the point of this is that most of the time you are pivoting off the 2 center wheels and the other wheels are so you can carve deeper. Longboards are flat 4 wheels... so much easier. its like whats easier, driving a car or riding a motorcycle... yeah
Would you be able to put the trucks on a different kind of skateboard?
I see Sölden on your board awesome! Been there a couple of weeks ago it was great
could you put normal like longboard wheels so you can treat it pretty much like a longboard and thane and stuff?
Why does everyone have to hate on each other. Just ride what you ride and have fun.
