I love how the last bit makes you feel sorry for Kefka’s sad, and meaningless existence. Then he laughs to remind everyone that he’s truly nihilistic so he doesn’t care. Perfecto
I interpret it as more as Kefka's human side coming to him, like his origin story is that he was a failed subject of magitek experiments which fucked his mind, but when you are a god that can do anything, there is a lot of time to reflect, and seeing all these people (the protags) with a reason to live unlike him who is too far gone to return to a healthy life, I feel like he dosen't just feel annoyed which he acts like, but also a feeling of, sadness mixed with slight envy. Maybe I am looking too deep into it and trying to make him more intresting as I found Kefka a little too overhyped, but I consider it headcanon for me.

The first 30 sec is the theme from the game's Title Screen. So having it play here with the final boss sort brings everything to a head at the very end.
I've been gaming since 1986. The more time that goes by the harder it is for me to be in the right mood to go back and play a game from the 90s. On the other hand, enough time has gone by to see what is a classic from that era now. And FF6 still remains my GOTC. The music, the characters, the final boss, the epic ending, it's a special game. It's one of two 90s games that we included music from, in London Symphony form, for our wedding reception in Italy. The other was Chrono Trigger.
0:31 Kefka unleashes all of his fury and contempt for what still remains of this dead world, his wrath coming in full to all who dare challenges his power. In a blaze of glory, he descends from the heavens for his last stand. 1:54 Even through all Kefka has accomplished, he has been defeated. He has nothing left to say. All of his hate cannot save him now. In a world of chaos and destruction, he has also been utterly destroyed. A fitting end to the one who created a monument to nonexistence.
this was a midi track on an snes sound engine and it still sounds better than 99% of most compositions now, holy shit the fucking mad man did it, he made the best composition in recent years (recent if you count 1994).
This is without a doubt one of the best final boss tracks ever composed. It really captures finality and despair in a way that no other final boss track ever has. If you listen to it carefully, it articulates Kefka's world view. It starts off maniacal... exactly how Kefka presents himself to us for most of the game. But it eventually progresses into a slow, sad despair-like melody. This reflects the true nature of a clown. No matter how silly they act or how much make up they've put on, they're just sad people who wish the world was different. Eventually, the song shifts back to its rapid maniacal pacing with Kefka's laugh welcoming us back to it. This symbolizes the only thing a person can do at the end of the day. No matter our grievances for how things are, all we can do is just laugh and accept it. The world is the world it needs to be. We can't do anything about it. All we can do is laugh and stop taking it seriously. Even when you've become a God, it's the only reasonable thing to do. At the core of it, that's the song's message. If you pay attention, the shifts and progression are conveying the conclusion of a man who finally got to rule the world... and still, his best option is to just laugh. Okay I'm looking way too into this. I just really like the song lmao
In other words. Kefka didnt choose to be a maniacle jester seeking the warring triads powers to become a god. Fate chose him to be this way. Regretting is too late at this point. Complete your path of destruction as fated to do so or have someone to stop you and your path of destruction.
I feel like the first part is madness articulated and danger he posed for the world and threat and and second part is the madness at its maximum and how unstable and last part is the sadness followed by a sad laughter at which his loneliness and emptiness is never met and longing. I remember watching a video of review of kefka and talking about final confrontration his clown act slips and sadness is on his face his loneliness shows and his sadness he wants to have that companionship and after he murdered gestahl he only spiraled as a god and got worse and death released him from this treaterous existence.
You know giving a Joker eske clown godlike powers can't end badly right? Breaks the world into literal pieces destroying joy and happiness forever, but not ultimately ending the world as he relishes in watching their suffering and futile attempts to find peace.

I love how Nobuo threw Kefka's mischievous little theme in the midst of all the chaos, followed by his despair and impending doom. It's brilliant. You almost, almost, feel sympathy for the maniac, but he can't be left alive, he's too far gone, and committed far to many crimes. It's tragic really, Kefka's life, but this battle and his destruction is justice.
1:26 - 1:55 best part, the one right after also sets the mood well, but that part is the good stuff, the stuff that imho makes this one of if not the best boss theme ever made.
@hootllum definitely, FF6 is my all-time FF game, and the final battle is indeed epic, and the use of that word is not an overstatement, like with most things these days
well, i don't see how (insert your favorite music here) is so good. i mean, there are some cool parts of it, like the whole (insert part of song here), but overall, it just seems like your typical (insert genre here) music.
Sadly, even though Kefka is one of my favorite villains ever, and this is an amazing final boss theme, God Kefka is a VERY weak final boss. The only charecter he ever killed was Locke, because he has 0 Defense :P
I agree i think he is the easiest final boss in the main series by far, he dies way too quickly. at least the other 3 sections of the fight before him make up for it.
Man....the beginning is so bad ass it makes me feel so pumped like "hell yea, I can beat this guy! Gimme you're best shot!" but then when 1:55 rolls around, it's so depressing. It makes me feel like I should just give up hope. Like, maybe I can't actually beat this guy.... it's very interesting. Deffinatly one of the best final boss themes of all time
Actually Sephiroth even became mightier after Final Fantasy VII. He was weakened after the battle against Cloud but he still did not want to be reborn as a new person so while the lifestream succeeded in absorbing some of his memories Sephiroth linked the core of his spiritual existence to Cloud's memories. That means he can always regenerate and that is also the reason why he says "I will ... never be a memory./Watashi wa ... omoide ni wa naru nai sa."
@hootllum The depressing part is more in reference to Kefka than to the party members, a reflection of his own impending destruction, and laughing in the face of it. His tower has been overcome, the warring triad defeated, his strongest incarnations beaten (tiers 1-3 and it's grand music); all that's left is himself. Life is meaningless in his eyes even his own life, that's the sadness; it's a concept he embraces fully even onto his defeat, so he dies laughing in the face of existence.
That's because the instrumentation and the music theory is extremely similar. Bass rock organ and drums and they both use quartal harmony :) honestly my favorite usage of quartal harmony ever is in that piece and this one. It's so cool how clearly you can hear how much of a fan Uematsu-san was of their music. RIP to Keith and Greg.
He might not be the strongest Final Fantasy boss these days or even canonically but he is definitely still the most evil one. People might say that other FF bosses actually achieve their goals but I would say that most of the bosses in the series didn't achieve their goals 100%. Kefka did. Everything that came after was just because he was bored and the damage he caused would take thousands of years to finally repair.

Well hey, I wish you all the luck in the world. Don't pretend to be someone you aren't for the sake of conformity! If that's how you feel, go for it, and don't look back!
Thanks, friend. ^_^
still one of the best ff games.
you gotta admit it, making Kefka look like a Greek god with a perfect body, wings and all, was fucking cool!
Actually, Kefka was the first "Magitek Knight", however, when he underwent the process, it was not perfected and it drove him insane.
lol this made my day
@hootllum
I think that that depressing part is fro when you beat him
You succeed in stopping him, and yet all you'll only have a Wasteland to look forward to, and the despair that you'll have to fight off, both from yourself and any survivors of Kefka's reign, in order to restore the planet back to a natural state
Rofl, Kefka actually became a God.
Sephiroth just cried about his mom all day.
Sephiroth has supernova
@@zuhebalepmarya35 Supernova is a good move. It allows me to go make a sandwich.
Well, Sephiroth also becomes a god
Kefka... what a vainglorious bastard. Still my favorite FF villain
This song reminds me of all the homework i didn't do in middle school. =p
1:34 is awesomely awesome
To Evan G Rogers: Too bad this is 16-bit music......... To correct you they had the most awesome music in the Final Fantasy series. Uematsu-Sama made the best music of the entire series...... I miss his touch on the music of the modern FF games...
D. C. S. Stop talking like a japanese you idiot
....
Marius Urusei! I can do what ever I want this is an open forum if you do not like seeing that there is such thing as scrolling ばか
Uematsu-Sama is awesome and if you cannot stand me using an honorific then ignore my comments. Idiot.
weeaboo
I looked all the way back in the comment thread for a comment like this just to make this point:
One does not simply call Dancing Mad "shit," one only calls it "the shit."
i love kefka like that :D
My 2nd favorite FF game beside 9
@09WProductions now that you say it,yeh, kefka's crazyness really reminds me of zant's madness XD
no, it's obvious he hasnt played the game and doesnt realize how each tier of music fits in with that specific tiers boss... or he doesnt like anything other than insane drum and bass.
@siggesatan lol XD oh I seee. Thanks for the info!
@MrCheckersmcgee Have you ever heard of the SNES? The Super Nintendo Entertainment System? In the days when the SNES was widely played, Final Fantasy 6 was ported to the American public as Final Fantasy 3. Yes, I have a SNES. Yes, I have FF6 (FF3 by the cartridge) for it. Final Fantasy 3, the one you referenced, was never released out of Japan at that time.
TL;DR: FF6 was called FF3 because the real FF3 was not released out of Japan.
I wanna ff6 remake
If you're talking about me, no I have not played the game. Yet. I just borrowed it today, but I haven't used my Gameboy Advance in forever, so it needs to charge.
I do, however, know that the tiers fit in with the bosses. I don't know specifically how, but I know that much. The final battle with Kefka can basically be divided into fights representing Hell, Purgatory, Heaven, & God. It's basically a sadistic spin of The Divine Comedy.
Addressing what you said below: I'm not sure if you und-
Life... Dreams... Hope...
@hootllum
I think that that depressing part is fro when you beat him
Like, you stopped him, and yet all you have to look foward to is the wasteland that he made. and only your grandchildren will see any significant change for the better
@MAYFLY01 sorry for the late reply ^_^; but yea i'll look into it someday for sure! Thanks
The villain that actually won and brought the world to ruin
God bless the Ultima spell. XD
That and Kefka's stolen Gem Box. :D
They made this fight pretty easy.
@TheLithp It was a long time ago, but you were definitely referring to the Black Mages' version.
So you're right, downgrading a song for the fact that it fades out is a pretty dumb response. :-P
@MAYFLY01 Or on the Wii's Virtual Console. Or for pirates, emulators=free and convenient (layer changing, save states, etc)
Hard to believe this guy was a clown …
Clown, what a guy
