    I could bear the ghosts and levithans, but the rampant student debt? Complete dealbreaker for living in the _BLADES IN THE DARK_ universe.

    I'd so do a heist just to get rid of my student debt. I'd box a ghost rather than pay them.

    Imagine a slice of life comedy set in BitD Charterhall University. A funny, charming coming of age story complete with ghosts haunting and possssing classmates, cults infiltrating and sabotaging your study sessions, mad scientists whose creations use the geneva convention like a geneva checklist, and theater kids.

    • @lechking941
      @lechking941 4 місяці тому

      XD the fact theater kids just exist as if nothings needing to change is the gut buster here because i can agree. they strange already.

    In the Napoleonic period "Fencing" was more a catch all term for sword fighting, not to mention many things like sabre and cutlass fighting use the same basic skillset as fighting with a rapier or in the modern day a foil, just with a great focus on the slash and cut rather than the thrust and stab

    Wecome to the culty goodness of Morlon Hall, where the ghost of teacher past is PISSED you're trying to cheat on his test...wait, they changed my favorite question? Screw it, I'll help you all pass!

    • @lechking941
      @lechking941 4 місяці тому +1

      now THAT would be a funky moment even in dnd like ya cheated but the reasion was a valid one as whom administers it changed tons of it and even a once student (and past teachers) loved questions because it was eather a simple one so you had a moment of freash air or just lightly funny. now replaced with one of teh hardest questions in the entire test and is a fail line for like 90% of em

    To my knowledge fencing in academic institutions was very in vogue during the mid-to-late 19th century Europe, though it was facilitated by college fraternities rather than the curriculum to the institutions themselves. Learning to fence was seen as character building rather than a sport or legitimate means of self-defense, so women could also participate to some degree. It's also a harmless method of settling duels, a largely bloodless alternative to having these young aristocrats shooting at one another.

    Ethics in Demonology is such a hilarious name for an academic course. In most fantasy setting would see that as a red flag, but here it is the norm. Thanks for the video.

    @5:48 I'd imagine extremes. Extreme comedy and tragedy. Victorian Britain pumped out romances and comedies but they were incredibly macabre. Just Google pictures of Victorian era Halloween costumes, those guys didn't mess around

    I see the heists in Duskvol University proper having a very sharp escalation point, if you're a proper student, or have successfully fooled enough people into thinking that. Sure, you could start out more mischievous with pranks, stealing test answers and fluff research, then escalate to higher grade contraband, but when you steal important research, that's when the hammer could come crashing down. Crossing lines into waters where even if you are a blue blood, you're going to get in real danger. But if you're not a student of the nice school, and people know that, messing with the well to do university is probably dangerous from the start.

    Some points about the topics
    -Iruvian is your exotic, but in your luxurious way culture, think Egypt or France. Orientalism galore, including demon pacting that might be the reason why they were hyped for signing a treaty for entering the Empire's fold and not military conquered.

    • @guilhermemonocores4872
      @guilhermemonocores4872 4 місяці тому

      Fencing might be necessary to fight pirates if they come close to the dagger isles (not Caribbean). Or if the cutthroat enterprise means other Leviathan Hunter ship might try to plunder your haul.Or mutiny, because IRL officials to this day do not come to engine rooms or lower levels to avoid being lynched (in which case fencing multiple oponents might be a requirement).

    • @guilhermemonocores4872
      @guilhermemonocores4872 4 місяці тому

      Theater tangent: I've actually ran a score based on protecting a famous akorosian opera singer who travelled the whole world,had a secret skovland love affair and public claimed one of the empire's most prized epic operas was actually originated in skovland culture, and basically painted a target on her back during a public square show.

      last addendum: I do believe there is potential for a lot of shenanigans in charterhall university and the factions vying for power there, there are the weird scientists Sparkwrights (and their spoiler in their situation section in their faction), the Freemason inspired Foundation known for literally bricking people into walls, and then there are the Forgotten Gods, cults infighting against each other all the time, except when their common interests are threatened.

    4:23 maybe the fencing is a thing for nobles to maintain control and not ‘accidentally’ get thrown overboard.

    There's some reasoning I think to Iruvian Studies. After the Unity War, Iruvia is considered the second-strongest part of the Imperium second to Akoros itself and it's not heavily managed the way Skovlan is. It's also the closest landmass to Akoros, and I imagine that a lot of trade comes from it. My headcanon for Iruvia is that they have a lot of steel and metal production. If you can exploit demonic sea beasts to make your electricity, why not use the biggest forge you got (lot of volcanos) for metal production?
    The other thing is that in the cancelled U'Duasha book which would have given us a setting in Iruvia, it's implied that during the Unity War the Imperium's control of Iruvia is not quite as strong as people assume. Even one of the major family lines (the Ankhayat) has a representative who is a Leviathan Hunter. The book implies that a second war is coming for Iruvia, so the fact that the College has studies with one of their major trade partners who could also be a potential target for their next war makes sense.

    One of the Academies training in Fencing does seem a bit weird... But i think given the Timeperiod this is set in, Its not modern fencing, Its not two dumbbells with swords and white suits just running at each other and trying to stab first to get a point, This is like, Classical, Perhaps not fully useful but good to know in a fight Fencing, How to hit precise points and avoid your own being struck, So that makes perfect sense for something to be found in the Naval Academy because, Whilst perhaps uncommon in this time period, You need some kind of swordsmanship training for those boarding actions, dock guarding or just deck-patrols to keep the miscreants off.

    If nothing else, Fencing provides an outlet that is officially recognized, and thus regulated. It reduces the likelihood that students will work out their energy or aggression out from under faculty observation. And maybe even head off worrying tendencies that become highlighted by mock combat.

    This video has been the first time I've been inspired to make a law student who is also a criminal to fuck over other law student houses.
    EDIT: I just realized you could make an Ace Attorney styled game where instead of trying to make innocent parties not-guilty, you try to *shift the blame onto your enemies and get *them* convicted for *Your* crimes. I am so smart in hindsight! But never in the moment!

    Interesting that you specifically mentioned how weird it was that the schools were right next to taverns- it's actuslly a historical fun fact that many coffehouses were called "invisible colleges" since that was where the people who were at college went to the coffeehouses and dustributed their education.
    Don't just take my word from it, here's the extra credits saying so;ua-cam.com/video/_MO4pjidfgU/v-deo.htmlsi=WD52XTuvbss0crib&t=251
