I never understood why people romanticize Bach fugues. It just doesn't work. If you use rubato on one line, it is totally out of place on the other melodic lines.
Well, even if Historically Informed Period Practice is important, in the exact second when you play Bach on piano (instead of harpsichord/clavichord/organ) you are already out of the game. Thus said, Ishikawa probably decided to consider the century-long tradition of piano performances before Gould. I may agree with the idea that romanticizing Bach is not “hip” anymore today, but Romantic interpretations of Bach can actually sound beautiful also today. I attended a live concert in which Beatrice Rana (an astounding pianist!) played the Goldberg variations with unorthodox phrasing and dynamics, but giing nonetheless a breathtaking interpretation.
These videos saved me in music theory lol bless you

Bravo ! Un mot sur l'interprétation quand même : mon algorithme détecte que c'est à peu près comme cela que... Chopin jouait cette fugue ;-)
