I've been using the D300 and the D200 for a few months now, and its ergonomics and controls are fantastic, all within easy reach without wasting time navigating through the menu. Paired with a Tokina wide-angle zoom F4, a Sigma medium telephoto zoom 2.8 and a Sigma 30 1.4 I’m able to capture shots that I really like. I currently print at 30x40 cm with no issues at all...quite the opposite, in fact! I've just purchased a Tokina 100mm f/2.8 macro lens as the cherry on top. It should arrive in a few days!Thank you for sharing your expertise!🙏🏻✨
I have two D300s - One I bought for around $150 low shutter count, and the second one like new for around $35! I recently had the second D300 converted to an IR camera - great use for it. The other D300 is my grab-and-go camera with an 18-200 Nikon zoom that I can throw in the car. Cheers!
Had mine from when it launched. The pics online do not do it justice as it cad deliver great quality A3 pics viewed at a sensible distance (1.5x diagonal). Well made and very reliable. If you attach an mb10 grip and adapt to the high capacity batteries you can get 4000 shots per charge. At present resale prices it is a no-brainer!
Man, those pipes were the best picture! Lovely colors and reflections, the light traveling through all that glass. I´ve got the same lens but without the VR. Thanks for the holding like cell phone advice. Love it.
Bought one when it came out with the 18-200. Many great years of service. It sits in a camera bag now with little use but fun to take out every now and then for fun. Liked it so much that in 2008 when one of my Fuji S2 had a sensor issue, fantastic camera, I replaced it with a D300s. Used it with the Fuji S3 which was another great camera.
Well, to make my photographic journey short, it all started back in the early 80's when my grandpa give me a Nikon FG with a set of Nikkor Lenses back then - still today that camera is working to feed my nostalgic taste of B&W fontography. But then in 2004 I bought a Nikon D70 with the 18-70 Kit Lens ($1,000), which I trade in 2007 for the Nikon D300 - which I loved till I saw the Nikon D500 in 2016... Then I thought that was for me and trade it.... Later then I also bought the Nikon D750 and in 2022 I bought my mirrorless Z50, and that's all in cameras, also all the lenses for my bodies... I started with Nikon and for sure, at my 65th year, I am still NIKON till my last Breath when My Lord calls me home.... Till Them I will continue using my 4 cameras as much as I can.... By the way enjoy your videos very much.
The D300 was my backup camera to my D3s. I always liked the body! It was a huge jump up from the D200 and was a pro body in every respect. Weather sealed, 12 mega pixels and good buffer for its day. The only thing I didn't like was the way it rendered reds. It seemed to make them purple when shooting in daylight. I have some cactus flowers that the color is pretty far off on. I ended up replacing it with a D500 which I really love for racing and bird photos. I keep my eyes open for a good used D300!
Great photos as usual... maybe your best video... I liked the moment "are you with the feds?" 🤣 Now I should wait til next spring to steal your ideas, the season is out now for the "vide-greniers", next year for a "marché de Noël" - From Toulouse France
My main photographic interest is trains (I am a railfan.) and love the D300. My main lens at the moment is a Tamron 18-200mm zoom with image stabilization. But a great and inexpensive prime is the 35mm 1.8G. Despite it not having built in stabilization, it's a nice sharp lens and the 1.8 aperture comes in hand for low light situations (which isn't the D300's greatest strength).
I have the lens, a good one. And I have the D300s. I think the lens came with the D3300, and it fits that camera perfect. On the D300s I use mostly prime lenses.
I picked up a D300 this year for a companion for my D700, it's a great walk around camera fitted with a Tokina 11-16mm f2.8 makes very nice pictures and is smaller and lighter than the D700 I think the D700 is slightly better for landscapes but that has a Nikkor 16-35mm f4
I bought my D300 last spring on ebay in UK for £48 (69 k on shutter) , I have used it almost daily since and it has given me good images and is great to use , my 1st DSLR was a D90 in 2010 and it uses the same batteries but is a better weight to balance my 100-300 5,6 ais nikkor lens which I prefer to use.
I have that camera and lens. Instead of the 18-55mm, the Sigma 17-50mm is on my D300 almost all the time. I got my D300 as part of a "lot" sale, that included four other cameras and nine lenses. Paid $250. I feel as if I stole it, but the sale was sight unseen, so it's a gamble that I was lucky enough to win.
I just love these videos. You can get great photos with a potato Carmine. This just proves yet again that you dont need the newest camera to get great photos.
Still own the D300, but it got quirky on me; it started not responding to changes made on the command dial. Then purchased a D7000 which I use primarily for my wondering photography. Back to the D300, I stopped using it, but then started investigating the problem. No luck, but I removed the battery and used its brother and things have been good. Maybe the fix-it fairy visited? Or maybe it was user error from the get go.
I had the same problem...It was battery related...a new Wasabi brand battery, fully charged fixed the same issue you had...BTW An off-brand 3rd party vertical grip will screw up a D300 big time :)
I have this exact rig! That 18-55 lens is no slouch!
I like this little lens..alot :)
Fully agree with you.
@@CarmineTavernaPhotography The close focus for essentially a kit lens is very impressive!
I have used The D300 a lot and I still have it as a backup for my D500. I always loved the build and picture quality and it has never let me down.
Totally agree!

I paid $1800 in 2007 too. Still have the beat up beast, and still use. Best $1800 I ever spent in Photography!

Superb camera, some of my best work was done with one, awesome paired with a nifty fifty

True, the D700, full frame, is slightly better for landscapes.
