So many shows end abruptly or carry on until they stop working, the Good Place ended as strongly as it started and in a way that makes it feel complete.
Well-said. There was a small part of me that panicked when they announced that season 4 would be the final season. I didn’t want to say goodbye, but that is just an indication of how wonderful this show is. I loved these characters. I felt like I’d lived 1,000 Beremy’s with them. And this ending was flawlessly bittersweet.
The three words "picture a wave" instantly triggers anyone who's seen this episode. A show about philosophy and farts had no right to be so beautiful, sad, and hopeful at the same time.
ahhh this is hands down my favorite tv finale ever. overall i really loved the good place, they had a story to tell and they did it well and they said goodbye. all the character endings feel fitting and whole and sated. everyone ends up right where they should be, and you leave Absolutely Devastated but satisfied with the ending
This may be the one series finale that is absolutely perfect, you can try to nit-pick it but good luck. D'arcy Carden not winning an Emmy Award is proof that we are all in The Bad Place! Her acting in this show is out of this world. The podcast is great, Marc Evan Jackson is the perfect host for a podcast. And it's kind of funny that we get an hour or more of talking about each 20 minute episode.
FYI The Good Place podcast hosted by Marc Evan Jackson (Sean) is fantastic. It's the only podcast related to a TV show I've every listened to and it has so many amazing nuggets. For example, the reason Janet dresses the way she does is because the costume designer had a father who would take her on airplane trips when she was little, in the 60's, and the stewardesses felt like glamorous purveyors of wisdom.
I also love how they explain the philosophical themes of each episode. Each episode gives you a nugget of philosophy, but the podcast will go further in detail.
One behind the scenes thing you should see is when the cast first found out the season one twist. Ted Danson and Kristen Bell knew it but the other main actors didn’t.
Not enough people react to this show and it’s a shame. It’s utterly perfect. It’s one of those rare moments where art makes the world a little better. Thanks for taking this journey!!!
She should react to the podcast. Dakara you are one of the few reactors that I feel would fully appreciate the Easter eggs and background secrets that came from the writing and filming of this series.
I highly recommend the official "The Good Place" podcast. It's hosted by the guy who plays Shawn, the cast and crew are on it regularly, they go episode by episode with tons of behind the scenes info. After finishing, I rewatched the series, doing show episode, podcast episode, show episode, podcast episode, ect. It's really professionally done, and yeah... Because it's official, a lot more substance than most fan podcasts. Highly HIGHLY recommend!
The Good Place, to me, is a perfect TV show. Brilliant writing, perfect casting across the board, just the right balance of hilarious and emotional, with some deep and meaningful themes, while at the same time wrapping up beautifully without getting bogged down or overstaying its welcome. Perfect. I absolutely love this show.
There is no level of Amazement as the fact that everybody basically finishes the show basically where they were started, or rather where they pretended they were when the show started
It truly is the perfect ending to an amazing show! The cast was perfect and my love for Janet will be unending! Yeah, definitely check out the outtakes/bloopers, but also there is a book by the creator of the show called "How to be perfect". If you're into books check it out, I've heard good things about it!
This show is my second fav show ever, after Buffy - which you’ve already been reacting to - thank you so much for taking me on this journey with you. You’re right, it was such a beautiful, perfect finale.
Hey, maybe this is the time! This hundredth time watching this through someone else’s eyes, maybe… noooope! There’s the tears, and uncontrollable sobbing, right on schedule! 😭😭😭
And so we've come to the end of the road.... 😂😂😭😭 and like you said, What perfect close to a wonderful show. And despite the sadness of all of the goodbyes we watched, we couldn't help but be happy because every character achieved everything they wanted to and became the very best version of themselves and were content in the knowledge of that and that was contentment enough to move on and "add themselves to the fabric of the universe" in one final act of happiness/contentment.... and the universe is made better for it.... It's been a fun and fantastic ride to relive the show through you D... a happy and content CTU for you today.... Can't wait to see what's next on your reaction docket..... Keep em coming!
I got to see Marc Evan Jackson along with Paul F. Tompkins live, and I wish I could share that show with people because it was so good and they are so talented and seem like genuinely awesome people. Jackson founded the Detroit Creativity Project that helps teach improv to young students.
Yeah, "lightning in a bottle" could've been invented for this show. Casting, writing, acting, score... everything just worked to create something if not perfect then, y'know, pretty forking close. Easily in my top 5 "nailed the ending" of all shows, ever and equally easily in my top 5 shows from the last 20 years full stop. Something special. Been nice to share it with you :).
Oh dip, it's over! I think this might be the best finale any show has ever had. It has been so much fun and pain to watch that all with you. I look forward to whatever you watch next!
I'll join the many other folks here in the comments strongly recommending the podcast. Believe it or not it will make you love the cast and crew even more kind of like watching your reaction did for me.
I’ve been waiting for this one for a while! I waited until you watched every episode so I could binge watch all your reactions! Wish I saw more especially from this episode!! Loved it!
Now that you've completed the series, you should watch it over again but before each episode turn on the corresponding episode of The Good place podcast. It is hosted by the guy who plays Sean, and has guests every episode who are actors, writers, set decorators, producers, etc on the show. Each episode is dedicated to a corresponding episode of the show. It's really interesting to listen to it and then watch the episode that it was about because you'll notice things you wouldn't have noticed otherwise.
It's been a looong ride but I'm so glad you finished The Good Place! You are one of the very few on UA-cam who watches my favorite shows :D I just wanted say thank you because I've followed many small channel reactors who easily giving up posting whilst in the middle of a season.
Loved all your reactions to this super well written and thoroughly well acted series. It's funny. I avoided this series for years, like Buffy, and now it's one of my favorites, like Buffy. It's always amazing how much the characters changed while at the same time stayed true to themselves.
Thank you for watching and reacting to The Good Place. What a journey and one of the most satisfying finales ever. A well written, acted, produced piece of TV that does the characters and story justice. I would recommend "Black Sails", another 4 season show with great dialogue and also well-written IMHO. Also Pirates! What's not to like???
Now that you're done, there's a video essay on Jason Mendez and how he really is a modern monk. I suggest reacting to it, or at least just watch it. It's really good.
There are only 2 shows i think of as perfect from start to finish. This is my number 1, Schitts Creek is the second. Even after watching sooooo many times, it hits just as hard as the first time and is the ONLY show i've seen with an afterlife how i've always wanted. Existence until you're ready to go, cause once you know everything in the universe, or done and seen everything, what then? I don't want reincarnation because which version of me gets to exist after? Been thru too much to just be a small part of someone elses personality, don't want to be singing some deitys praises for all eternity or just end without being ready. For me, this show is absolutely perfect.
If somebody makes a montage... please! Use "We Love You So" by Carter Burwell (from 3.00, same song that plays during michaels going away present for chidi).
I have two complaints about the ending, in hindsight. I think we should have seen Shawn actually finding fun in the new system, and if I was Eleanor, I think I might have hung around till Michael came back
So Dakara Jayne my only question to you is was I right? Was this series not a masterpiece? I am so happy to have shared your journey with the Good Place. One of my favorite series of all time.
@@DakaraJayne Thank You. A short series with rave reviews, and kinda macabre. Don't know how you choose TV shows, but if you like the genre, I'd suggest "Penny Dreadful", 2014-2016, three seasons, 27 episodes, on Showtime. Starring Billie Piper, Rory Kinnear, Josh Hartnet, Eva Green, and more. It is similar to Wednesday, SPN, Buffy, and Angel. It has warewolves, vampires, and hunters all in London, in 1890's. You've asked questions before about this stuff during SPN and Buffy, and this show will give you a new perspective. 🌹☮️🌹

One of the only perfect shows out there imo. Absolute 10/10.
Well-said.

Ted Lasso also managed to do the same after 3 seasons
Take it sleezy

3:48 D'Arcy Carden wore the J+J bracelet to several of the press tours / talk shows when the show was ending. So cute!

Good taste. I've rated 5 shows 10/10, Buffy and the Good Place are 2 of them. The other 3 are the Shield, Freaks and Geeks, and Nowhere Man.
The Good Place is my all time favorite show because I think it is perfect.
This show never fails to make me a mess on the finale. I know what's coming but it still makes me sob. Lovely and beautiful ending.

i m really suprised when Dakara said jason's picture is on the wall, how did i miss that?
Does anyone else think Derek got rebooted enough times to become the creator of the good place and the bad place to begin with in an endless loop
