I'm confused! Why did you not set a static IP address before creating your A records? Am I missing something, or did you overlook this?
Lightsail provides you a static IP 2:56
@@TonyTeachesTech Tony, Tony, Tony, all you said at 2:56 was, "we do have an IP address associated with this instance already". I mistakenly understood from the title of your tutorial that you would run us through the entire process to get up and running.
I was following along nicely to this point. But, you completely skipped over the point that Static IP addresses are not simply attached to an instance and that the IP address you see after creating your instance, is not static.
This is a very important step. Something I had to learn the hard way. Anyone following your tutorial should be made aware of this so they don't follow me down the rabbit hole. You likely assumed that viewers already know this, which would defeat the object of anyone watching your tutorial in the first place. Other than that, it was a great tutorial and helped me immensely. Keep up the great work and thank you for sharing your knowledge and experience with your viewers...

@@NeelsWorld wait so we do need a static IP? do we need to create it before we attach domain? or is static IP only necessary if we need to ssh via aws cli?

Hey Tony! Thanks for the vids. Very helpful! I have been running into an issue when trying to import some legacy clients with oider versions of PHP. Any chance you would do a video on importing the database and wp-content without using some type of a plugin to transfer the site from a server to lightsail? Maybe even point me in the right direction? Thanks again!

Hi Tony, I want to ask for your opinion on how hosting on AWS lightsail compares with hosting on BlueHost all in one package? I heard that lightsail has limits on CPU performance which is especially unpleasant when having more than 1 website. Would you still opt for lightsail over Bluehost?
Great video. Thank you. Only thing I am not sure of is I need to have the main user ID email setup and be able to forward it to several email addresses. Would this require SES (at a cost) or might there be some simpler solution. If I could have the main email come into my gmail account I could forward it from there so just a single email might work. Thank you again.

Ohh, I would definitely recommend creating a snapshot before modifying the wp-config file for https, I uniquely managed to screw mine up and had to repeat the process from the beginning, yikes, but to be fair I am not a big vim user and did not access it through terminal but rather through aws lightsail pop up browser based terminal which is glitchy af for vim.

Great video, thanks for it. Just a quick update, now files are located in /stack folder instead of /opt
As far as I can tell, the files are still located in /opt, but /stack is a simlink to /opt, probably for ease of use. So accessing either way should be fine.
Hey man, you video are very informative. I use it to host my website on lightsail.. however couple of days ago i get an error "An automated WordPress update has failed to complete - please attempt the update again now." All my research is saying to go into cpanel to delete the. Maintenace file. However my siste is not being hosted on cpanel. So how do i fix this since my site is hosted on lightsail?

Hi bro Tutorial is very good, i followed all steps and its work fine. But one issue about redirection. When I trying to check domain redirection on online tool redirect checker, https url fine it's 301 redirect but with http url it shows 302 redirect. I need 301 redirect on http too. How I can change this?

Static ip is needed to use custom domain, or the public IP will change everytime the server is restarted

Hi! What about deleting the WordPress website hosted by AWS Lightsail? I can't see the "delete permanently" on my wp-admin general settings and I can't find any tutorial for deleting WordPress site hosted by Lightsail. Should I delete the instance and it will delete the website with it as well or what happens when I delete the instance? and thank you if anyone will reply.

I have a big problem with amazon lightsail servers and site domain. Amazon support does not answer me . I don't know what to do. I made the change dns to transfer the site on amazon putting prestashop and the servers do not work and when I open the site on the chrome browser I get the number of the instance instead of the domain of the site 😢

Another option to open phpmyadmin without using an ssh tunnel is to go to phpmyadmin configuration and allow connections from any ip address or just your own ip address and then go directly to your_domain/phpmyadmin

while using this command from web based terminal "mysql -u root -p" after entering password. got this error: ERROR 1045 (28000): Access denied for user '-root'@'localhost' (using password: YES)
Well, I addede "sudo" and it worked. So its "sudo mysql -u root -p"
