1600 m/s Concrete 8.8cm Pzgr 39 Shell
vs
40mm Tungsten Carbide Armor - Наука та технологія
I guess tungsten carbide is just a portal to a different dimension.
Yup, just fire yourself at a slab of it @ 1600 mps and you too can be somewhere else.
that what i think
Warthunder physics
@@hotu4102must've hit a part made of stalinium
Ah yes, my favourite reactive armor technology : vaporization
Aka the Whipple Shield for space craft. 😂
I mean the concrete would probably just turn to dust
Now that's an interesting one! Would it be vaporisation? Or would it be _pulverisation_ instead? Concrete is a mix of various oxides and silicates, so would it actually have a vapor phase? It may even cause some plasma to form maybe?
@@Hydrazine1000 At orbital speeds? Vaporization for sure. Things get warm when you party at 20+ km/s
@@Yaivenov Uhhh, the video said 1600m/s, am I missing something?

Lately it happens a lot
@@connivingkhajiit
@@connivingkhajiitthis has been happening ever since they introduced volumetric shells, it's not gonna get fixed until they eat their own words and actually implement volumetric armor or go back to not having volumetric shells at all
They're going to do neither, one would take too much to implement, the other would mean going back to pre-2020 pen physics, which for them would mean they'd have to do even bigger rebalancing of everything from BRs to economy etc. and they probably can't be bothered to do that, because why do that when players are content playing with this broken system and sometimes even defend it fervently
Only when going against soviets
apds when it hits spaced amour:
The shell seemingly entered the back rooms.
Ghost shell, disappears into nothing
Perfect for ghost tanks.
Imagine how it would look in real life. Shell just turns into dust on impact
When I sometimes show a clip with this "dust", it pixels the clip
@@dejmianxyzsimulations4174 I was looking for this answer, I thought i'd turn into dust but was wondering why you hadn't rendered it :)
@@dejmianxyzsimulations4174Can you post the video but unlisted with a link to it in this video's description ?
@@dejmianxyzsimulations4174 You can try upscaling the clip to twice the resolution (4K), UA-cam will give more bandwidth to it and there will be less pixelation.
@@dejmianxyzsimulations4174 You could upsample the clip to 4K before uploading, UA-cam will give it more bandwidth and it will pixelate less.
This isn't an april fools prank. This is a simulation of ghost shells in war thunder
"So stalinium is just tungsten carbide?"
"Always has been comrade."
Kinda cringe tbh
Why people don't make such jokes about Hitler? It's 100% the same thing.
@@HanSolo__it's a russian bias meme

Fracturing like a panthers welds
I figured it would break worse than that.
I think you meant Soviet welds...
why not both@@owensthilaire8189
@@owensthilaire8189 in that case it would have had to disintegrate itself
The shell vanished quicker than my dad
Ouch
Or boeings safety reputation
As far as April Fool's topics go, this is actually pretty interesting, I would have figured that the tungsten carbide plate would shatter completely just from the momentum of the concrete, even though the shell would be disintegrated as well.
We are going back to the days of throwing rocks at one another
Always have been, ever faster, to the point we throw hypersonic rocks now
When your so broke you have to start going back to Medieval style of ammunition
We went back to using darts 😭
@@trevorwhitham6742 Nah, we gone back to ancient times using Javelins and Ballista Bolts.
Most cursed simulation yet.
The shell would probably disintegrate inside the barrel lol
it would definitely fall apart
I doubt it, I believe concrete is used in 'HESH' training ammunition.
And has actually been used in combat, as a "low collateral" type of munition for engages around civilians.
@@kirotheavenger60
The concrete used in testing has a container to hold it together.
In this case, the concrete has no housing.
Like a shitty canister shot
Stalinium?
warthunder post volymetric shell update:
Fucking DEVOURED that shell. Can you simulate the Breda 501 90mm cannon vs sherman UFP next? Granata Perforante mod.43 coming from the 90/53 mod.41
it won't be easy to find shell diagram
It somehow reminded me of Clarkson with a shotgun, using it to remove weeds. "It ceased to exist"
on another note I now feel like a solid concrete shell would probably work like an extra cheap HE shell when hitting hard targets because I would not want to be anywhere near a tank that just got hit by a supersonic rock.
Shrapnel is hella dangerous
"Mmm, yummy." - That armor plate
The guy in the backroom seeing solid AP flies by:
Thats what the Panther Mantlet does thanks to volumetric
War thunder shells be like: oh no we hit smth we can’t pen, guess the shell just vanishes.
Wow, concrete sucks as the projectile material. And tungsten carbide isn't good choice for armour either, considering it nearly cracked because of that impact.
Lmao looks like it went in a portal .vaporized, just gone
It's actually extremely interesting how the cracks form on the back side of the plate. I have some (a very limited) understanding of how this kind of stress is translated through the plate, but is there a way to visualise it in this software?
Makes sense (to me) for the crack to form on the back side, since that metal is traveling further. Just, the tungsten doesn't want to stretch, and therefore cracks instead. Whereas on the front, that metal is being compressed, not because of the impact but because of the metal bending.
When the armor *_||_* is impacted it bends *_))_*
This side compresses -> *_))_*
@duke impressive use of punctuation 😂
Damn it almost did nothing
Tungsten carbide is super brittle. Surprised it didn’t crack more
Looking at how the cracks spread in the side view I really doubt that plate could take a second round anywhere close to the first impact location without suffering a complete failure of the plate.
It cracks but is nowhere near brittle, let alone "super brittle."
You use it in a hammer drill. The drill part is only a suggestion because the job is hammered, while rotation only changes the hammer position and removes concrete spoil a bit. So you just called hard-core hammer drill tip a "super brittle".
@@HanSolo__ Tungsten carbide is a ceramic. It’s brittle. Whatever you’re using must be an alloy combined with TC. If we drop our TC mill ends were required to throw them away because they may have microfractures
@@HanSolo__
In comparison to RHA, let alone cast steels? Yeah, any ceramic is "super brittle". Tungsten carbide is decently strong for a ceramic, but its hardness is through the roof (kinda the point, innit?) and it has a tensile strength ~1/4th that of RHA. That's brittle.
@@Warriorcat49 "Tungsten carbide is decently strong for a ceramic" It's not ceramic. It's a powder alloy made of tungsten, cobalt, nickel, vanadium, etc.
This brittle thing you are talking about can be a stellite. An alloy as well.
"That's brittle." That's not brittle. Glass is brittle. Because glass or concert is brittle you need to make your APFSDS dart of TC or tool steel (-ish alloy).
Keep up the awesome work! I know a lot of effort goes into this, and I really enjoy seeing how projectiles behave against given armors!
Thanks for april fool's disclaimer :D

so this is how ghostshell happens.. interesting.
Concrete shells have a tendency to noclip i guess
Gotta love those ghost shells from the laggy netcode 😅
Would be interesting to see more of these not in April too
We didn't even scratch them!
in Germany in WW2 there were so-called concrete air defense towers, of two types
1 type - like huge knightly castles with thick walls
Type 2 - like a sharp bullet aimed at the sky, 15-30 meters high. it was impossible to hit it, since an air bomb falling from above ricocheted off it.
Is it possible to make a concrete shelter for 1-2 people in the shape of a traffic cone from concrete, and what will be its dimensions and wall thickness, if
1. 60-80 mm mines
2. 120 mm mines
3. 155 mm OFS projectile
Logically, most of that shelter is going to be dug in. The person would effectively be standing in a smaller equivalent of a chest-high trench, and the cone part is going to be barely large enough to cover their shoulders and head, and to have enough underground foundation to remain stable.
@@azurebookllet9216 optional, such cones can be placed in enterprises or city areas (bus stops), where there is no place to dig, and for the front line they can be used as a mortar position
opened the top cap and shot back
closed - and even if the enemy sees your position from drones, it is very difficult to destroy, and he does not know which of the five adjacent cones to shoot at
they can be deceptive (empty, false) positions to distract attention, or work on the principle of emptiness - 6 cones in different places, at a distance of 100-1000 meters, served by one mortar crew

Is it possible to weaken the effect of the reactive armor by coating the tungstenalloy penetrator with ductile metal?
It depends, generally ERA bends and destabilizes the rod, and then no jacket will help. A jacket could help when the rod breaks and separates..
Sorry, the tungsten was pretty hungry
The pings, blame the pings.
Reasons why the T-44 was the best WW2 medium tank design
Based on the complete no sell as seen from the front, I was honestly surprised to see it crack like that
