Easy pocket reminds me of a FASHION CLASSIC -

  • I was playing around with some folded paper and this easy little wrapped pocket reminded me of designer Diane von Furstenberg’s iconic wrap dress. What a fun look for a junk journal pocket!
And then I discovered that Hulu has come out with a DVF documentary, “Diane von Furstenberg: Woman in Charge.” So I seem to have a lot to say about this as well. Such interesting stuff!
Even if you’re not nostalgic for 70s fashion and its ongoing revivals, enjoy this easy pocket that looks just great in your junk journals.

The pocket would look cute in a fashion journal or a sewing journal with the appropriate tags or paper dolls with their clothes.

Oh the wrap dress. What fun and lovely memories. The pocket creation is lovely. Your washi trims really elevate the style!
I never minded being in a career that has prescribed uniforms. Always very washable and never a question of what to wear to work.
Thank you, Anne. Excellent project! 👩‍⚕️❤

Good morning Anne. I love all of the trivia you blessed us with today . I love learning the history of so many things . This is an adorable pocket that can be adapted to many different kinds of paper and if you wanted to do so you could use some very thin cotton material on top of the paper. As I was watching, I was thinking this would make a very nice Christmas tag for packages. You could add gift cards to coffee shops as well as a tag to identify the to: and from: for the gift . I am getting ready to make some Christmas in July cards and tags so my brain was sort of leaning in that direction when I watched your video today. I love that you have such an easy way of talking to us and you don't extend your video to an hour just because you think it needs to be an hour once you've taught us the method, a couple of more examples is the perfect amount of time for the video. Bless you and have a wonderful day.😊

Pam, I so appreciate your sharing your thoughts here. I do really like a half-hour format - it seems to work for most of my project. I have one coming up soon that's about 45 minutes, but for the most part I'll stick to the shorter ones - I really am grateful for your comments!

Oh, Brian, I'm so glad you enjoyed this. I had such fun learning more about the fabulous DVF and yakkity-yakking about it with you! What a perfect antidote she offered to the hideous "power suit" era for corporate women!

Hi Anne. Very cute. Were you, or are you still a math teacher? I don’t hear many crafters referring to their folds based on which axis it is.

Oh, this is so funny, and your comment is so kind. Thank you! No, I was never a math teacher (I did teach business writing for many years) but I just always loved the whole notion of the coordinate plane, and I still use it plot priorities and strategic decisions.

Anne, When I do collage, I get glue everywhere. What glue/applicator do you use? Just found your channel and am enjoying it very much.

Debra, thank you so much - I'm delighted to have you here!
For adhering thin papers together, I use UHU glue stick. It works pretty well. I used to use Scotch Creates glue stick, which I really preferred, but over the past year it's gotten very, very expensive and difficult to find.
For a little more strength in paper-to-paper, I use Art Glitter glue. There's no glitter in it - it's just a sparkly brand name. I get it in large bottles (16 oz, or even 24 oz. if I can find it) and transfer as needed into a refillable 8 oz bottle). On the small bottle, I always use what they call their ultra-fine metal tip applicator which sells separately from the glue. It's really key for putting out a fine bead of glue and getting precise placement.
If I'm ever adhering fabric or any other material in the mix (i.e., a scrap of aluminum foil, a plastic or wooden bead, etc.) I always use the Beacon brand glue that comes under three different product names: Fabri-Fix, Fabri-Tac, and Beacon 3-in-1 glue. They are identical, so it doesn't matter which one you get. Pricey glue, so use sparingly, but when you need extra strength, it's what you want!
I hope that helps. Thank you again for watching - I hope you get many good ideas from my little channel here! I look forward to hearing from you again!
