I didn't originally like the Excelsior-class, but I came to appreciate the original design a lot more after they modified it for the Enterprise-B. The modified version ruined that sleek design, the hallmark of the Excelsior-class, by making all the unnecessary outcroppings. The engineering section outcroppings seem to exist solely for the Nexus to blast something off of, which means they don't serve any functional purpose other than the plot. The re-design overall is not as smooth, doesn't flow as well. From the front, especially, it looks too blocky. The fins on top of the nacelles ruin the smooth curves of the nacelles edges from a side profile, and add to the aforementioned blocky-look from the front. I don't take issue with modifications per se, but in this case, it made things worse, not better. Similarly, in TNG, the Miranda-class ships all had their tops chopped off, missing the structure with the phasers and photon torpedo launchers that arched over the top of the saucer section. They called these Soyuz-class, which could be a different class altogether or a sub-class within a design series (like navies have done). Michael Okuda once said that it was to distinguish them. Okay, I suppose that is logical, (unnecessary but still logical), but then why did they not do that to the Excelsior-class and Oberth-class ships we saw in TNG? We never saw a Miranda-class ship like the Reliant in TNG; we had to wait for DS9 to see those again. Noteably, however, Sisko's ship, the Saratoga, was the modified TNG-version, not the more balanced Reliant version. They could have kept it looking like the Reliant, in which case it could very well have been the Saratoga at the beginning of Star Trek IV that gets its power drained by the alien probe.
i really hate to point this out but the Excelsior class we see at 0:00 and at 4:44 is the Enterprise B not the Lakota sorry for tooting my own horn but that had to be said ok :D
Ah, The Excelsior class - my personal favourite. What I would give for a 'Captain Sulu adventures' spin off (for one season only though, all that "cataloguing gaseous anomolies" would get rather dull after one ep). I think they're an under rated ship that have stood the time better than any other in the Star Trek franchise. There they are experimenting with Trans-warp drive with original series cast, and there they are leading the way in the Dominion Wars so many years later. Gorgeous ship.
My favorite class of Trek ship as well. I like the more streamlined look than many of the other classes, and the Lakota standing toe to toe with the Defiant was a great battle scene.
Thanks for watching and giving me feedback : ) I agree with you...the Mark II Excelsior is defenitely cool. Looks a little meaner and tougher than the Mark I. When I had first seen the Enterprise-1701-B from Generations, I was sure that ship could take on a few KTingas. Not sure if I prefer Mark II over Mark I They are both really stunning. I dont think any ship in sci-fi comes close to being this majestic.
You know, considering the rarity of this variant, there was a theory proposed on ex-astris-scientia that the Lakota is actually the re-commissioned Enterprise B, and the weapon upgrade which gave the Defiant such a bad time had nothing to do with the external appearance.
The excelsior retrofit was originally made to bridge the gap between exploration and warship, but the refit was so well designed and integrated into the ship class that for it's time it became the best designed, most maneuverable, and best looking and most powerful ship of it's class.not to mention really good at making things go blooey.*hehe*
You're right, Excelsior-Class ist a very wonderful and unerrated Ship. I've met so many "fans", assessing Sovereign-Class very nice and elegant, but the Excelsior-Class an old ship with an outrunning design.... that's the moment, i must say those people, that the Excelsior-Class is in the Star Trek cannon the technical and shipline based predecessor of the Sovereign.
@JediAtlantis I agree with most of your comment, except the part about the Vesper class in STO. I dont find it even comes close to the Excelsior. Its a lot smaller and I find it looks a lot more like the Constitution. As far as not respecting the Excelsior...I agree. Excelsior class ships have always been "background ships"...whether it be in the movies, TNG or Ds9. Most people however, fail to consider that the Excelsior class represents the bulk of Starfleet.
The Refit Excelsior class starship has to be one of Star Fleets best looking ships. I'd take one of them over an Akira or an Intrepid any day! Thanks for making the vid and sharing, I enjoyed it very much.
It's amazing how ahead of its time the Excelsior class starship was and how versatile Starfleet engineers made it to include new technologies. To this day, you can still see them among the state of the art front line starships. I'm wondering how long Starfleet is going to keep them around; I wouldn't be surprised to still see them active in the 25th century.
Defiant vs Lakota. They did come to a stalemate but they said that if the Lakota received one more hit she would be destroyed where the Defiant was still for the most part good to go. But yes, Lakota is by far one of my top favorites :)
Guys in all fronts, the 2 ship and their captains had no intentions in blowing shizz up, due to their situation at the time. Point is, they were merely trying to disable each other, but due to the Lakota's new refits/upgrades we may never know who would of won.
Me too, but i think the issue is the shield emiters that are more modern in the defiant then in the lakota. So the extra power from the warpdrive dont translate too mutch on the emiters
Merci encore. Tes commentaires sont toujours apprécié.
needed albadive of armor. least 2 galaxy class ship went down because heavy damage. one from the first dommion battle to save some of starfleet personal from ds9 when a jam bug rammed into the uss oddyse. the other because the duras sisters modifed command laforge's viser to us the sight to steal the enterprise d shield freancy codes and mutations to program the weapon to puch trough to the enterprises hall.both cases the galaxy proved the neck to be weak once the shields were taken offline.
Im not so sure, acording to the specs the galaxy is Beam Firepower : 1,000 Torpedo Firepower : 1,000 Weapon Range and Accuracy : 1,000 Shield Strength : 1,000 Hull Armour : 1,000 Speed : 1,000 Combat Manoeuvrability : 1,000 Intrepid: Beam Firepower : 200 Torpedo Firepower : 625 Weapon Range and Accuracy : 440 Shield Strength : 270 Hull Armour : 50 Speed : 3,526 Combat Manoeuvrability : 9,100 But i dont know the credibility to this font
Cant believe a ship like the defiant could almost kill the excelsior though, i really dont like that they added ablative armor in general, it should be a spec. only on the defiant cause it was the only ship that had it
Personally, I believe in the hands of a more aggressive and experienced captain, the Lakota probably would have defeated the Defiant. But at the time of their confrontation, all out war with the Dominion hadn't quite erupted. Just the same, The Lakota refitted Excelsiors were the work horses of Starfleet.
But no other ship in Starfleet except for the Sovereign class has as strong shields as the Galaxy class. Not to mention no other Starfleet ship except the Sovereign and other future ships can match it in firepower.
You must have some serious eye sight issues if you missed the caption note about the Enterprise B footage during the first few seconds of the video ; )
Salut FederationStarfleet ! ; )
@JediAtlantis :: I command one of these ships (a refit) in Star Trek online. I've found it to be an incredibly capable starship, nimble for its size and class, and capable of packing one hell of a punch =3
Acording to the specs, what the show ment of the Intrepid be almost as powerful as the galaxy class was in the sence of warp speed, where a small ship with a smaller warp core could reach almost the same warp speed as the galaxy class. But for me it sound they screw up in the show and now release specs to justify
that by 2293 the costitution class expecially uss enterprise alpha was over worked and way underpowered in shields and the hall would have needed a complete rebuild just as heavy or more heavy as the 2271 refit at which point the enterpries alpha would be basically just an excelior in the body of the connistution body look and be less able to keep up with the excelior and more costly to do mirenda jobs the doing its jobs miranda. at least the borg and dommion reminded be defenting the turf
the enterprise d saucer could have been saved is riker separate right away got some distance and use the emercey transporters to beam as many of the crew off the battle section. also denna troi was not the best person to have at the helm in a battle situation in 2371. riker would have been better at taking the helm directly him self cause at least he would have fired up the saucer impulse engines about 10 to 20 second sooner. at least my 2379 denna troi was a better pilot
ok first.... this is not a real ship. Second, that the Lakota is commanded by Captain Benteen is hilarious. The writers were having a little fun with that one. lol
the excelior class is still a good solid working designed and hard working horse for starfleet ships even being over 100 year old in star trek online time line 2409 and look better the the sovereign class expecially the enterprise b/lakota subclass tactial excelior. also the excelior class single handed totally directly replaced the costitution as the main heavy ship and work horse. constitution had a long good history with a few blander spots because james t kirk break the rules to much.
I'm a Romulan fan myself, but the USS Lakota is one beautiful and badass ship. My favorite Starfleet ship. Jolan Tru from the Romulan Star Empire.
@JediAtlantis
I love the Excelsior class design.
Many find them ugly because of the long nacelles...but I find the ship design very sleek and elegant.

No, actually it didn't, the Lakota was ready to use quantum torpedoes which would have destroyed the Defiant easily.
the most powerful excelsior ever. to bad we didnt get to see her fight in the dominion war.
i really hate to point this out but the Excelsior class we see at 0:00 and at 4:44 is the Enterprise B not the Lakota sorry for tooting my own horn but that had to be said ok :D
It also have the defiant specs and all excelsior classes, including the lakota.
Lakota:
Beam Firepower : 800
Torpedo Firepower : 2,700
Weapon Range and Accuracy : 660
Shield Strength : 875
Hull Armour : 310
Speed : 917
Combat Manoeuvrability : 3,000
Defiant:
Beam Firepower : 1,400
Torpedo Firepower : 2,150
Weapon Range and Accuracy : 810
Shield Strength : 880
Hull Armour : 3,400
Speed : 955
Combat Manoeuvrability : 8,660

I would love to see more Excelsior variants like this. The Mark II Excelsior is my favorite ship design, I even have a replica here in my living room.
My favorite class of Trek ship as well. I like the more streamlined look than many of the other classes, and the Lakota standing toe to toe with the Defiant was a great battle scene.

So relaxing to see the fly bys.
Excelsior has always been my favorite ship,i main it on my tactical on sto
My main toon is in charge of the Valley Forge, NCC-43305. I love her to death
Excelsior Out-Dated, Ugly Shoe Box design, Large Target, Maneuvers like a Pig! Dominion Shreds that 100 year old Rust Bucket!
I agree, thats why I love Bridge Commander. The models and textures are brilliant.
Fantastic. The ship looks nearly real.
It's amazing how ahead of its time the Excelsior class starship was and how versatile Starfleet engineers made it to include new technologies. Was so glad teh Lacota actually had the proper refit design model, they were so lazy in DS9 with those ship models.
Excelsior retrofit is still the best rounded ship in STO due to Lt commander tactical.
nothing like those high quantity torpedo dumps to shake up some borg
Defiant vs Lakota. They did come to a stalemate but they said that if the Lakota received one more hit she would be destroyed where the Defiant was still for the most part good to go. But yes, Lakota is by far one of my top favorites :)
Either ship would have been destroyed had they started using their quantum torpedoes. Both captains elected against it.
Thanks, your comments are very much appreciated.
Your video just made me wanna create the USS Shawnee
Well there are many ships that can destroy the Defiant. For example a Excelsior class ship, a Galaxy class ship, a Dominion Battleship, etc.
I love the starship Lakota ncc-42768 on ds9
Cool tribute that ship looks bad ass
Thanks again for the comment : )
Guys in all fronts, the 2 ship and their captains had no intentions in blowing shizz up, due to their situation at the time. Point is, they were merely trying to disable each other, but due to the Lakota's new refits/upgrades we may never know who would of won.

Really, other than the Miranda class ships, I see the excelsior class ships the most.
Thanks : )
I plan on making a second part to the Federation vs Romulan Empire video I made a few days ago.
She looks like she means Business !!!!.
Ass kicking Business !!!. Beautiful ship.

defiant still came out on top!
Wow I thought that the Lakota would have had stronger shields.
Looks better than a Galaxy Class
Great work! ;)
That should be a Excelsior class starship.
She is. An Enterprise-subclass vessel, to be specific
Cant believe a ship like the defiant could almost kill the excelsior though, i really dont like that they added ablative armor in general, it should be a spec. only on the defiant cause it was the only ship that had it

I want to join the crew of the starship Lakota in the fan film I called star trek Lakota in 2019 I want in
did anyine notice that at first the 'lakota' was the enterprise b
This you disable your annotations ?...the Enterprise B scenes are clearly noted near the bottom of the video.

@FederationStarfleet yes!!
