Its something what happened in WWI and I'm sure happened again in WWII, far too many children from all over the world went to war far too early, In Battlefield 1 one mission has you meet one of these Children that went to war due to a sense of Duty and Glory as well as to meet his countries Hero on the battlefield
All too late do people realise what war truly is

Sabaton takes a neutral stage in their songs. They presents the event regardless of nation. Almost all their songs are about war situation and heroes, often unsung heroes. They are from Sweden and you pronounced the band name correct from the start.
They have so many good songs but No bullets fly there animated version is a good song to start with or Night witches or Lady of the dark also the animated versions. Another songs, Bismarck, To hell and back, The unkillable soldier, The last stand, Soldier of heaven, Fields of Verdune, The Christmas truce, Hellfighters, Carolux Rex (both the Swedish and the English version), En livstid I Krig (A lifetime of war) live from Gothenburg put in the subtitles, Swedish pagans, Lejonet från Norden (The lion from the North) (both the Swedish and the English version), Livgardet (The royal guard) (both the Swedish and the English version), Defense of Moscow, 82:nd all the way, The attack of the dead men, Hill 3234 and many more.
Sabaton has a history channel on UA-cam where they talk about the history surrounding their songs.

The no bullets fly is based on the book to the T (or almost) ‘a higher call’ but the only thing they got wrong was when they were falling out of the sky, the song says they were over a forest but was in reality over a village in Germany because they had people witness this from the ground.

    • @miiah7475
      @miiah7475 Рік тому +2

@@Davidkiser13 That bit about the forest is not in the actual song though, the song starts AFTER that had already happened, it's "only" mentioned in the pre-story of the animated history video narrated by the Yarnhub "Guy" and they actually talk about roofs in the Sabaton history episode.

All of the soldiers they highlight on in the video are based on real people. Not counting the Knights and the Spartans, so far I've come up with:
The soldier pulling himself out of the mud, at first I thought he was a member of "The Smoking Snakes" (Força Expedicionária Brasileira, FEB, nicknamed Cobras Fumantes), but doing some more research with the patch on his shoulder as well as his helmet, that's Sgt Henry Johnson of the 15th New York National Guard Regiment, aka "The Harlem Hellfighters". Medal of Honor recipient and recipient of French Croix de Guerre avec Palme, France's highest award for valor. The Medal of Honor was awarded to him in 2015.
Sgt. Henry Johnson is "one of the five bravest American soldiers in the war."
Theodore Roosevelt Jr. in his book "Rank and File: True Stories of the Great War"
The Asian soldier with the cocked-hat, that's a Nepalese Gurka named Havildar Gurung (per the credits) who earn the Victoria Cross in the Burma campaign off WWII.
Sgt Awal Nur, belonged to the most famous Indian Army regiment of 1914-18, Queen Victoria's Own Corps of Guides. He served in Belgium, France and East Africa from 1914 to 1917, and he was wounded three times. But his most extraordinary exploit was on His Majesty's secret service. Nur was one of 16 Indian soldiers specially chosen to join British officers on a secret Indian Army mission into Soviet Central Asia in early 1918. On the direct orders of London, the mission's goal was to stop Soviet resources in Central Asia from reaching the Germans by railway and the Caspian Sea.
Lt. Audie Murphy the highest decorated soldier in US history who served in WWII.
Sgt. Alvin York a humble man from Tennesse who was awarded the Medal of Honor in WWI for exceptional bravery under fire.
Private McNamara was 101st Airborne, Silver star awarded due to actions during the Battle of the Bulge.
I also notice a soldier with the Croix Lorraine on what looks like a French flag arm band, meaning he was a member of the 'Forces françaises libres' forces in WWII. Doing some reading I found out that a large number of French colonial troops from territories such as Chad and Senegal had joined with the 'Forces françaises libres'. Damn, Sabaton REALLY does their research! I suspect that soldier is Lt Comba, but I can't find anything on him.
ATS Ivy Valentine is coming up on a dead end, I found that the ATS (Auxiliary Territorial Service) was the British version of the American WAC's, but I cannot find anything about her name.
As I've been working my way through the names listed in the credits and found another one: Private George Stringer, Manchester, Awarded the Victoria Cross at the Battle of Es Sinn in Mesopotamia.
Capt. Dobson, 1st Canadian Infantry Battalion, Killed on 9 July 1916 in Flanders.

When war broken out and the call for more men came. Many still believed in the romance of it all and that it was just one big adventure. Recruiting offices would ignore the age limit to fill their quotas. Its estmated close to 250.000 under-aged managed to join the armed forces during the whole war.

There are of course loads of more songs, but this would be a good start. I recommend starting with to Hell and Back as it is by far their most successful song and one that is very iconic and classy

True story, ww1. Germans versus British and French, decide to on Christmas take a break. Play Football. Eat. Trade stuff. Bury the dead. That is the most epic true story about humans, and I wish it was more well known. Maybe it could make people understand that we are all essentially the same. We all want the same things. So why must we bleed.

Absolutely brilliant. A true masterpiece in every respect. Sabaton is much the same as Nightwish, in that they use brilliantly crafted music to tell the story and they are so damn good at it that it hits you hard every time. They paid great honor and homage to Motorhead and Lemmy Kilmister. And you have to look carefully, as there is an Easter egg and/or a tribute in almost every frame.
Sabaton, like Nightwish transcends their genre. No one matches them for their story telling and the respect they show their subject matter. Every Sabaton piece is a history lesson. Indeed, lest we forget, as there are those who as we speak are trying to erase our history and separate us from our past, and to no good end. We cannot, must not allow that to happen.
In an interview, Joakim was asked why Sabaton seems to focus on war and conflict. Joakim replied, "There are so many stories out there that are forgotten and do not deserve to. Why then should we make shit up?" Joakim has the right of it.

The Battle of the Sommes purpose was 2 fold: First: Relieve pressure on the French at Verdun. That battle had been raging for 5 months by the time the Somme offensive kicked off. Second, the British wanted to take areas like Vimmy Ridge (iirc) and possibly bust through the German defensive lines. Obviously, they didnt break through and the Germans defensive depth was just too much to punch through.

Sabaton is power metal. They do exclusively military history from an unbiased pov with the caveat that they look out the eyes on the soldiers. Christmas Truce is their most know song, Bismark maybe second, then maybe Witch Witches and No Bullets Fly, and they just dropped this one. Their catalog is vast tho and people have literally passed history classes using their videos and accompanying history lessons on their history channel

Alot of the people and things in this video are call backs to things from other Sabaton songs like Red Baron, To Hell and back, 82nd all the way, Night witches, Blood of Bannockburn, Hellfighters, No bullets fly, Carolus Rex, Sparta, Sarajevo and probably some others. Reacting to the songs referred to in this video would be a good start into the Sabaton rabbit hole.

This song is mainly referenced to the battle of the Somme in 1916. As someone else said many of these boys were 16 and lied when they signed up. So far the countries ive seen represented are Australia, America, Belgium, England, France, India, Sweeden, Nepal. Ancient Greece, Medieval Wngland and i Think Viking in there. Some have said the woman in the side street is Russian but I'm not convinced.

Sabaton is the young soldier telling the story. The original motorhead song is Grandpa telling the story. And it shows how much history can be lost during the years.

  • @nicholasblackley7591

The battle of the Somme was a massive critical failure militarily, the higher ups believed such a large push after nearly 10 days of constant artillery fire would cripple the enemy and end the conflict by the end of 1916. In order to increase the numbers as Sabaton said they promised friends and family to fight with each other, after the unimaginable loses this battle completely changed British military doctrine so now it is if possible, not allowed for family members to serve together, even counties are broken up to avoid such events again

Its even worse when you consider, after the Great War ended, many nations had difficulty trying to reintegrate the men back into normal home life (many wars afterwards would be the same, but WWI is most notable because it was a war where an entire generation felt as if the war really solved nothing). In Britain, alone, many of the men who served in the Infantry, and survived the war, could not find regular employment. So they reenlisted, many of them would end up being the "Black and Tans' that would fight the beginning of the "Troubles" that would start in 1919. Many of those men would, also, die from fighting the insurgency of the IRA. Had Britain tried to create employment programs and find jobs, outside of the Infantry, for those men, the Troubles would not have occurred and there might have been a more peaceful resolution to the question of Irish Independence.
For many American Veterans of the War (who we call the "Silent Generation"), they noted that the American Public asked "all the wrong questions" about the war, and thus much was lost about the war, and their experiences, save the token stories (like Alvin York).
The War to End All Wars is probably the most "forgotten war", right next to the Korean War.

they mentioned they added 2 years to their enlistment.... this was something quite usuall to people during ww1.... alot of people added a few years to their age so they could enlist... If I don´t remember the wrong thing... the youngest soldier was 14 years old... and the last soldier that died was 16 years old and died 11 minutes before the 11/11... was alot of 11 during that war -.-

I recomend you to react to Sabaton live from concert in Gothenburg with the song En livstid I krig (chose one with english texting if you dont understand swedish). This is the most emotional Sabaton video I seen. Love it realy. I am swedish so maybe subjectiv but anyway it is more emotional when they sing in their own laguage about our own history but in an subject that is pretty universil about soldiers go out in war and who morn them? Who remember them? The titel En livstid i krig meaning A lifetime in war. They have made one english version of the song but the english and the swedish version have sligthly different meaning of the lyrics. The swedish one is more strong message. Please react to this one!

Interesting fact about the credits....all the portrayals were of actual people during not only WWI but the other conflicts represented by those marching along with the band. Examples are Sgt. York and Henry Johnson, both Medal of Honor Winners. The portrayal of Johnson is that of the black soldier in the French uniform as racism in the U.S. military was very prevalent and U.S. Black Soldiers were considered unfit and US troops would not fight in the trenches alongside them so Pershing "brigaded" the black units to the French.
