At the age of 26, when he ascended to the throne, Sultan Suleiman aimed to build an empire more powerful than Alexander the Great and to render the Ottomans invincible. Throughout his 46-year reign, he became the greatest warrior and ruler of both East and West.
The young Suleiman received news of his succession to the throne during a hunting party in 1520. Unaware that he would be ruling a reign beyond his dreams, he left behind his wife son and took to the road with his close friend and companion Pargali Ibrahim to reach the Topkapi Palace in Istanbul. As they started their journey overland, an Ottoman ship set sail from Crimea in the Black Sea, bringing female slaves as gifts for the Ottoman palace… On this ship was Alexandra La Rossa, the daughter of a Ukrainian Orthodox minister, taken away from her family and sold to the Crimean palace. She had no idea that she would become Hurrem, wife of Sultan Suleiman and mother of princes, ruling the empire with him through bloodshed and intrigue.
As Sultan Suleiman conquered the world, his great passion for Hurrem would clash with his love for and trust in his closest friend and advisor, Grand Vizier Pargali Ibrahim, all set against the backdrop of the tension between Christian Europe and the Ottoman Empire in the 16th century.

mahidevran never knew how to take any accountability and was always blaming hurrem for every downfall that came in her way

I don't understand how this can be Hurrem's fault. The baby caught smallpox. They are just trying to blame her for everything just like always.

Admittedly, I can at least understand their logic here, even if it's incredibly faulty. When stuck in this kind of grief, after a life gets taken so abruptly, you want to find some rationale for it. And, given that a spy of Hürrem's was just weeded out, she, as ever, becomes the scapegoat. My issue with it is that the show sets this up almost as if it's something we should believe too, despite it being _entirely_ against Hürrem's character and there being no evidence at all of her involvement.

@@treasureikpea Also keep in mind, like before this they discovered Hurrem had a spy in Mustafa's harem and had a letter stating they had some sort of big plan. People really glossed over how much this can make Hurrem look guilty.

As I recall, the Moslem world had the best medical knowledge in the world, but quite a few royals suffered smallpox. They developed inoculation, but that must have been later than this. The contemporary queen, Elizabeth I of England also caught smallpox as a young adult; she barely survived and was badly scarred by it.

Smallpox was, unfortunately, still a fearsome threat in Sueliman's time. In fact, it outright haunted his family. There were, in real life, four children born in Suleiman's princely harem in Manisa-Mahmud, Murad, Raziye, and, of course, Mustafa-but, within a year of him taking the throne, three of those four children died in what was probably a smallpox outbreak. Then, one of his sons with Hürrem, Abdullah (not featured in the show, oddly) passed from smallpox while still a toddler and then, of course, Mehmed died of it too in 1543. It's truly overwhelming when you factor all that in.

He actually does. Mustafa just doesn't care because Mahidevran is ultimately his biggest ally who will always have his best interest at heart. If he allied himself with Hürrem, her best interest would always be for Mehmed and never him.

@@princess7jasmine It reminds me of one of the recent clips that went up where Mustafa says that even the people he loves can make mistakes, which feels just slightly like an acknowledgement from him of his mother's actions.

@@ΔημΣΚ They did notice it from the start, on the day they found out he was sick, the concubine taking care of Suleiman noted he was completely fine in the morning, but suddenly had a fever later that day. In the next day (or few days) the doctor arrived and diagnosed him with smallpox. Even then, they had no modern medicine of any kind so whether a baby survives smallpox or not is down purely to luck.
