There are simply no words for talent this rich. They humble me.

At around the time mark of 3:15, Karin turns around and faces her accompaniments... challenging them to step up and support her- which they gladly do! Right on! Love these musicians... Bring the whole thing down!

Listen to the music. Had a parade of good/bad back-ups forever. Roll the screen up and listen to the music.

@bartrosenberg That's a guitar, dude. It's got six strings. That's what we musicians do to show that we are actually enjoying what we are doing and I'm sure Karin respects that.

Too many people getting down on the musicians in the background like their frame of reference is the width of this video shot. Take a look at 3:30--that's more like their frame of reference. It happens with musicians on any stage. I'll be on the lookout for rigid mannequin-like professionals in the future.

Olá! Realmente, quase ninguém conhece, infelizmente. Lancei um vídeo sobre esta banda e falo sobre um álbum deles. Fica o convite. Talvez goste.

That's Mickey, that plays with the drum around his neck on North Pole man, He isn't a fill in. When they play this song they just keep up with how Karin and Linford are doing it that night,

I absolutely LOVE that she went for the "... too fucked up" at Cornerstone. Any religious righties there must have been aghast

That's one of the things I loved about C-stone. They created culture shock on purpose to help Christians separate culture from sin. People got kicked out of church for the stupidest things. Sin is clearly defined in the Bible, but people would get kicked out for the wrong hairstyle, the wrong wardrobe... We're supposed to be healing the hurting, not judging your personal taste in clothing.
There was a guy in one of my Bible studies who one day confessed to taking drugs and sleeping with his girlfriend. We didn't treat him any different, just talked to him and told him he should pray about it. He told us later he expected to get kicked out and be hated by us, but because we didn't hate him for it he became a Christian. I think many people are surprised by the reaction of real Christians whose main purpose is to save the lost. I was lost, and though I forget sometimes how very lost and blind I was, I still remember that people are the most important thing. We can't lose them simply because we don't like something about them.

It was cornerstone... If you ever went you'd know that no one there cared. When the Album came out 7 yrs earlier some bookstores that sold the CD's did have an issue with it...

This outfit seems to be built to adapt. Coffee shops to theaters 2 to 4 or more. DO the bands come as rental dudes when the room is available though?

I've never commented on this group before but my frustration with them compels me to do so, one of their first albums was Patience, there was three songs on there that were really good, Circle of quiet was outstanding. That was 1992, in 2007 they put out another album with "Entertaining thoughts" on it another outstanding song. Both of these songs have the potential to propel them to stardom yet they never play them live instead pounding out the depressing slash your wrists music they seem to enjoy.
If they ever wanted to be successful you can't tell by what they play, to bad because their talented, they must love scratching by in coffee houses.

Kevin K , that’s a very interesting analysis. I totally agree with your assessment of their talent and potential to have made it huge, and having seen them live about a dozen times since 1997, I believe they’re the greatest relatively unknown band of all time. They’ve written at least 20 songs that should’ve charted relatively high, Karen is one of the greatest voices of this era, and Linford is a musical genius, but there’s something peculiar about the husband and wife team. Though I clearly see times in their career where they made moves to break in, they’ve always veered away from the big time scene. They play a lot more than coffee houses, and often play crowds upwards of the thousands, but they seem to embrace their place in music history, love Ohio farm life, and don’t really appear to care anymore. That’s my read. But sometimes the music industry is a crapshoot, and I know of at least two occasions since the early 90s that the dice didn’t roll their way. Whatever the case, they are without question an enigma.

Part of the reason I've wanted to see them do well is the possibility they might tour and stop in Colorado!
As it is they probably don't get to far away from the farm.

Kevin K dude, they've even toured Europe not too long ago.
Just a little patience is all you need.

Let's keep them in prayer. Prayer precedes action.

They were signed to IRS Records and toured with the Cowboy Junkies. I think that was the peak of their success as you see it. They have played big auditoriums, but some people measure success differently. They aren't controlled by the music industry. They do everything themselves. They make and play music they like. They can interact with their fans in a way a hugely popular band couldn't. Although I think they deserve the fame because of their talent, I also believe they deserve the privacy and solitude that fame steals from people.
Let me give you an example. If you've ever been to an OTR concert, you probably saw them at their merch table, or sitting on the edge of the stage talking with fans afterward... they are approachable.
Let's contrast that with the time I saw Mark Walberg on the golf course. He's walking up and, well,... did you see Finding Nemo? Remember the part where the seagulls are screaming "mine, mine, mine, mine, mine..." It was like that only the people were screaming "Mark, Mark, Mark, Mark, Mark, Mark..." I saw him sign about 100 autographs, maybe 200... It was good he was separated from the crowd by ropes.
Think of that. You can't go out to dinner, you can't go grocery shopping, you can't do much without being mobbed. I don't see that as Linford and Karin's dream. I think they're living their dream. They get to do what they love and interact with fans who love and appreciate them but don't mob them and suffocate them. It's the perfect balance if you ask me.

Yeah, the drummer not only sucked, he was in his own little world, no connection with anybody on stage, even when Linford tried to get him in time early on. Must've been somebody they picked for that show.

It's a shame that the bass player and drummer had to fuss around distractingly during this beautiful song. VERY unprofessional, gentlemen. Sit still!

The last time I saw OTR live Karen told the audience to vote a certain way because of her leftist views and the rest I'll keep to myself. They started as a Christian band and abandoned artistic talent for political activism.

If you'll recall they were shunned from the CCR charts when Give Me Strength was a single because Karin said a swear word (ZoMG!). I would hardly say they are politically activist, but they have been known to speak their minds. Most people assumed that because of their Christian leanings they were also far right conservative and I remember in the early 2000's when it seemed the whole of the USA was gung-ho for war in Iraq and they spoke out against it and surprised a lot of people. But that's their vibe - not here to please the CCR charts or fans who have an expectation for who they should be.
