    A walk along and through the famous Lock 24 on the Lichfield canal, this amazing bit of industrial heritage has been altered to take a new route through. Join us as we explore the site and what will be done to take this long into the 21st century and help connect the Lichfield canal from Huddlesford on the Coventry up to the rest of the Birmingham Canal Network (BCN). Is HS2 holding things up?
    We then jump from Gallows Wharf across to Fosseway Heath and explore the restoration as the new line joins the old from old lock 19 up to lock 18 and the abandoned railway and signal box with level crossing.

    Impressive solutions to some of the problems of restoring this wonderful canal - particularly the elimination of the hump-back bridge. Also, great to see the care being taken to encourage the regeneration of the natural habitat. Thanks for a very interesting update.

      LHCRT are amazing at creating nature, if you follow the route so many of the sections are wetlands or ecology parks. It’s great to see the hard work paying off, I’m particularly excited to see Darnford moors grow in the next few years.

      It’s not far off being ready, the issue is the stretch before fosseway Heath from the direction we walked is still waiting to be transferred from the developers then they need to fundraise for 5 locks and some bridges. It’ll be a while off so it’s all about keeping it maintained for now

      @CourtAboveTheCut I've only had it happen when having different frame rate footage in the same edit, for example 24fps with 30fps & edit/project set at 24fps. Years ago I had a data card in a drone that did similar just by itself, I found out later the card was a bad clone of a SanDisk.

    • @CourtAboveTheCut
      @CourtAboveTheCut  5 місяців тому +4

      I honestly think that’s years down the line, the trust have so much going on with HS2, the A38 crossing, connecting it all together and then all the land and locks by the new developments. Once that’s all in place then I think this will then continue to try to get to the M6 Toll Aqueduct. I hope this makes sense, if you check the description of this video there’s a bunch of videos that may describe the places above

      @@CourtAboveTheCut Totally agree with you, it's years away. I have wondered if it might be possible to use some of the route of the disused railway although in the past there has been talk of that being turned into a cycle greenway, as has happened on other disused railways, although that's been muted for years and nothing has happened. I guess if the existing bridge is still there it's so much cheaper to use it if possible, maybe the land will become available in 20-30 years time.

      @@mattpotter8725 I had an interesting chat with some locals today, they mentioned how money has been spent on various bridges to keep the line intact despite it being moth balled for so long. I wonder if there a long term plan, if not it would make a fantastic heritage railway.

      @mattpotter8725 5 місяців тому

      @@CourtAboveTheCut When I mentioned using the line of the disused railway it was only to potentially bypass this privately owned land, though I don't know what discussions have ever been had regarding the private land, before rejoining the original route of the canal going up to the pumping station at Pipehill.

      @@mattpotter8725 they’d need some extra locks as it’s a good 20ft higher or more. I’m not sure how the land works further along where it could rejoin near to the Walsall road. Diesel barges ' diesel stains in the water ' us in inner city areas have cleaned up ' just stop oil only complaine about us ' we have electric cars everywhere ' in the coutryside they use vintage barges cars trucks motorbikes that dish out diesel fumes ' but its all okay to do in the country ' all these locks do is pollute ' theres no fish left in them nothing ' they just dont want to hear it or see it ' in the country ' & how much money this cost 🤔

    • @CourtAboveTheCut
      @CourtAboveTheCut  3 місяці тому

      Wow where to start with this, it’s hard to understand your points on a few matters so apologies if I’ve missed something. The way you’ve written it I’m not even sure if you are complaining when you say us or are being tongue in cheek.
      Diesel barges - it’s 7x more fuel efficient to move on water than road, it’s 4x more fuel efficient to move on water compared to rail. More and more boats being built now are electric and many are converting. Most boats move very little, a couple of miles a month, so diesel use is very low, if you’ve ever spent time on a narrowboat you’ll realise how quick they are to heat up, you’ll also realise nearly everything on them is low volt and the vast majority of boats now have solar power. Making the need to run an engine in the day to charge the battery a lot rarer. In the winter most of the heating is done via a stove with wood, a zero carbon product if bought from a reputable source which it nearly always is now. Most areas have bans on certain woods and most fuels are smokeless or seasoned to stop the pollution.
      Canals are corridors of nature, in fact they are massively highlighted as important to improving both biodiversity and net gain in current targets to go to a zero emission society. Have you visited a restoration? Have you seen all the habitat creation and planting from wetlands to woodlands that are created down EVERY single restoration I know of? Locks only pollute if not used, as soon as gates are open fish will migrate up and down the canal, a lack of oxygen is the only issue and quite a few canals have plans in action where they run air into the locks if they need to be closed off for any reason. Fishing is also a major part of canals, if you agree with the sport or not is a different argument but people wouldn’t fish them if there were no fish would they?
      Just stop oil…. You lost my support when you desecrated a national monument and I know many others feel the same. I fully support action on the environment but people need to be thrown in jail for some of the pathetic acts of late. Just stop oil are alienating the people that should support them.
      How much does it cost? Wow nothing, the current CRT network generates £6.3 billion pounds to the economy, health and well being benefits and nature etc, the government give £52 million pound in funding to CRT and that figure is going down, so even if you take out all of the other stuff the network still brings one and a half billion in more than is paid out. Restorations cost the tax payer absolutely nothing as well, all trusts have volunteer led groups who raise money via grant funding and local business, it doesn’t come from the government it comes from places like the national lottery heritage funds, it comes from the large business in the area that understands the benefits I’ve listed above.

      I don’t disagree with you at all. There was once a page on Facebook called something on the lines of persimmon issues. It was full daily of people complaining about issues the company hadn’t dealt with from aesthetic to dangerous. Persimmon bought the page out then Immediately changed its name to persimmon complaints, deleted every post and banned anyone saying bad things 😂 rather than deal with the public issues they bought their way out of it, that says everything you need to know about the company
