I have used the block /sweep combination against kicks and it worked very well. I am loath to use it on hard surfaces as it can be dangerous. The uke in this clip needs to learn to break-fall as he lands on his elbow.
Very good training methods. In class though I mix it up more because the uke anticipates the move, like around 0:40 on the video, he moves ALREADY in the way the sweep is going to come. This is a natural response to repetitious patterns so if you don't tell the uke and go left then right on a broken pattern it's more realistic training. That said, I posted this to BullshidoDOTnet traditional forum as an example of good training. And styles that don't attack legs are weak in that area, I've sparred many times against martial artists who have little experience in this and I can only imagine what would occur in a self defense street "fight".
i do kickboxing (american kickboxing) which is like karate can u kick to the shin for a sweep i know u can the the thigh but they kick the shin on this video
This is kyokushin karate, they do low kicks in a way similar to muay thai rather than kickboxing, different styles doing things differently :) Oh and it stings like hell if you are not used to it
They make it look a lot easier and simpler than it actually is.
Brilliant techniques

is catching legs whlile opponent kicked u is allowed in kumite!?
depends on the ruleset of the kumite. some rules allow the catch, some others "tolerate" it if its only for a split second.
