Thanks for watching
this one was fantastic! I've been having a terrible time with tightness down my left leg (PT-induced + a chronic issue w/psoas). This helped like nothing else so far. amazing!!! I wonder if you might do a series on reversing fixed "green light" posture habits. This is a very hard habit to break! I love all your videos
Thanks Betsy D, glad you found that sequence helpful. Can you elaborate a bit on the 'fixed green light posture habits'??
@@LearnSomatics I mean my various PTs, chiros, feldenkrais and Hanna somatics helpers are always pointing out how my low back is arched too much and I should pay attention to trying to bring my "ribs down" so that there is a healthier curve in the low back and not so much of a "chest forward" posture. It's a really hard habit to break. I tend to sit at my work desk with an arched low back/head back posture. Also shows up in walking. I hope that helps explain
@@KnutFan Oh okay, yeah that's really common. If you're back doesn't hurt it's not a big problem, however it can be addressed using a seated Arch & Curl. I don't have a video for that (yet!) but Susan Koenig does, you can check it out here: ua-cam.com/video/YvjBHNlv7T0/v-deo.html
Do that periodically throughout your work day, it should make a difference!
@@LearnSomatics thank you! I am also familiar with SK's work too..I'll check out that video of her
😀
Thanks so much for pointing me at this video for my tight hamstrings and calves, really works. I'm doing it in conjunction with the Step Overs for tight quads. Also find spending lots of time on my bare feet is really helping too. Really appreciate your videos and help
You’re welcome Anne! Glad it’s helping. Are you practicing all the fundamental movements from the Daily Routine video too? Here it is just in case: ua-cam.com/video/pxqlAAVlRKU/v-deo.html
Thanks for watching
@@LearnSomatics Yes I do that first every day, thankks for keeping me mobile
Awesome! Keep it up and enjoy your comfy legs and feet. 👣
Wow, there's lots going on in this class, so many parts of my body released. This class is a little slice of magic and I've added it to my daily practice as I have been struggling with feet and ankle issues for quite some time (which I have known for some time is actually an issue with the upper chain). Thank you for sharing your wonderful skills and knowledge, helping people heal.
You're welcome. thanks for watching. I have an on-demand class for feet & ankles in the pipeline.
Awesome!! I'll keep my eyes peeled for that class. @@LearnSomatics
I did one for total body relaxation it was nice, but have not yet seen a class for ankles or feet. @@cinmac3
HEAL starting with the heel, in this case.
I will try to do both sides in one go.
I think
@@LearnSomaticsI haven't seen the ẅrist arm or ankle /shin, you’re knee one helpe , bit the ribs shoulder waist still an issue .
I am trying to get in better habits.
I thought Somatics would help my brain learn through better use of my body.
If you ever come for work or holidays in Cyprus I would love to work 1:1 session. Thank you for great content this channel should have 100k views. why somatics are so unknown ? I spoke with my physical therapist and we never heard the word somatics.
I love the sun, so that's a definite possibility! And thanks for the kind words I appreciate that. Yes it's not well known at present but it's my mission to get the work out there. If you find a video particularly helpful, give it a share on your social media. I'd strongly recommend the book 'Somatics' by Thomas Hanna for you. Thanks for watching.
Amazing that the issues of plantar fasciitis have to do with the pelvis, I must introduce this to my cousin who got a plantar fasciitis issue. Thanks a lot for sharing your knowledge!
You're welcome! I hope your cousin find it helpful, thanks for sharing.
Hi Colm, thanks, I have been using this video and several other videos of yours which are all helping me a great deal. Many thanks indeed. 😊

Glad it helped! Be sure to follow the Daily Routine video to leanr all the basic movements. Here it is: ua-cam.com/video/pxqlAAVlRKU/v-deo.html

Thanks for teaching we need to do the opposite , i could not arch my back , until i flattened it first.
Nice work Cindy!
My legs felt vary crampy today, so far, no cramps, thanks.
i could not find groin video!

Here’s the groin video:

Great thanks Colm
Thanks for watching. I hope it helped you feel better!
A fairly new challenge for me, my sole of my foot has a callous on the back of my right toe and the ball of the foot.( metatarsal ) can get very sore.
What works you do for that?
Try this one: ua-cam.com/video/uOhCUGkwtdg/v-deo.html
I am into somatics for quite some time and I was always wondering: if I know which muscle or group of muscles should be released, I could create my own exercise? Or somatic exercises are always the same? I know I need to respect the principle of conscious contraction and relaxation of the muscle. Thanks
Yes you can pretty much make up exercises if you know the muscle group or movement pattern you want to address. The standard Somatic exercises cover the entire body and address specific reflexes common to everyone. Which is why they're so effective.
why would my inside of my leg want to cramp?
Hi Colm , have i missed your anwers?
i have done that?.!
i silll have to read your news letter, i am sure it needs more then 5 or ten minutes
Muscles that are fatigued will tend to cramp. That indicates that they are the muscle you need to release. Try the groin pain relief video.
So exercising only calf is not the complete treatment for fasciitis?
Correct, your body is a fully integrated system, you can't just focus on one area. You must address it within the context of the entire system. In Somatics we work from the centre outwards. Addressing the trunk first, then moving to peripheral areas, this is much more effective. Did you try these movements? Let me know how you got on. Thanks for watching.🙏
Thank you for reminding to strengthen the leg , this move helps, helped hip waist, ....
Will definately give this a try. Typically how many days to fix?
It depends really but you should feel SOME improvement after trying it even once. Allow at least a few days tho, 3 or 4. Also explore the Daily Routine video to learn the fundamental movements that address the entire body. Here it is: ua-cam.com/video/pxqlAAVlRKU/v-deo.html
How often should i do this procedure? I also found tje sciatica and the back extension work particular useful!
Hello Trond, glad you found the videos helpful. You can do this daily if you wish. Also follow the Daily Routine video to learn the most fundamental movements. Thanks for watching.
Daily Routine: ua-cam.com/video/pxqlAAVlRKU/v-deo.html
I liked what this move, but, I don't like that need to do the other side, it sound like it would include both sidesj when you mentioned the trunk.
Plantar fasciitis usually presents in one side only, so only one side is demonstrated.
I understand my wanting to see both sides because my brain .
Maybe because of my brain injury.
Hi Colm,
I don't have plantar fascitis, but i feel it touched something for my walking, hip and even my upper back.
What category would you recommend in your playlist? Thank you.
Practice this first, if you understand this you will get more out of very movement: ua-cam.com/video/05fs-gwHG3E/v-deo.html
Hello Colm, my name is Ross Perovic. I have what I’ve learned from my physician to be Haglunds Syndrome or Haglunds Deformity. This is happening on my right heel where I have a painful bump where my upper heel bone rubs or presses against my tendons connecting the Achilles and fascia tendons. It’s obviously painful when I walk especially up a hill. Or, in the mornings when I wake up and walk downstairs. I experience pain around the heel and all around the ankle at it base of the heel. I work in a steel factory 8 hours each day 5 days a week in steel toe boots. I’ve had this problem before but not as bad. This time it flared up pretty good, maybe it was the new boots I’ve worn over the last two months, I don’t know. I’ve done some of your somatic exercises and they help, however could you help me further? Could you provide me with some more exercises, I would really appreciate it! Thank you so much! Ross Perovic.

Reading the description sounds more inviting.
I have a little pain in my big toe.
But who knows it helps my hip.
I have a friend who has restless legs , he is very familiar with tai chi should I send new to somatics in the routines or legs he is getting cramps in his legs.
Colm i was hoping you could answer, do you have anytthing or maybe this might help for blister the on feet.
i thought it was my shoes 5 finger, but, maybe...
Bunion is a structural issue, I'd advise walking barefoot when possible so toes can spread out.
@@LearnSomaticsi love bearfoot, but, i don't like splinters ,sand burrs,or burnt feet or ants.
I do weak barefoot sometimes alot.
where is my focus should be ifi have pain under my big toe .
I would think the whole foot not just "planter fasciatis"....would i do uneven legs, twisteded pelvis, pain more in my right foot tensions on the left side of the body, shoulder, waist, hips.
Gentle suggestion. You speak too fast. Sometimes I’m not catching words especially if there are anatomy or I’m not sure what you said.
Thanks for the feedback Eugene! I'll watch out for that in future. In the meantime you could try play the videos at x0.75 speed, although that may make them too slow. Worth a shot though.
