Took this cruise to Alaska from Vancouver in early Aug. 2019 !! Celebrity Eclipse cruise ship was fantastic! This video says it like it is . GREAT JOB !! Best trip ever and the weather was pefect ! 18 - 24 degrees. 💖💖💖💖💖
Annie, I enjoyed this vlog! I'm glad I stumbled across it! Your vlog was very informative and useful! On June 16, we leave to go to Alaska. We will fly from NC to Seattle on the 15th. Also, we will be going to the places that you visited. I'm glad I was able to see those places and see how you dressed/layered. This gave me an idea about how to dress and pack for the weather. The sites were just breathtaking...beautiful! Excellent recording! Thanks a bunch!
Thanks for watching! We enjoyed the amazing scenery in Alaska very much. So far we have taken Alaska cruise 2 times and will take it again on May 6, 2018. I wish you a very pleasant cruise to Alaska in June!
WOW an amazing collection. We did the same cruise on the Carnival Miracle just the week before you. We headed out from Vancouver and docked in Seattle,8 day cruise. Than back home to Australia. Thankyou for sharing.
Annie, we are taking an Alaskan Cruise May 2015. Watching your video has only gotten me more excited about this trip. Beautiful pictures and landscape. Looking forward to this trip and I will post my pictures/videos also. Thanks for sharing your great memories!!
I loved this video! Very nicely done, and great captions throughout. My boyfriend and I are planning a May cruise, and this was very helpful. You covered all of the things we would enjoy doing. Thank you so much.
I am very glad that you like this video. May is the most beautiful month to take Alaska cruise because you can see all the mountains covered with snow. Be sure to take White Pass train when the ship visits Skagway. Have a nice trip!
This is the best video I've seen so far. Such taste and quality! I am going on July 30th. Very excited. I see how beautiful the smaller ship can be. Thank you so much!
those are wonderful photos ! Looks like you had good weather, except in Ketchikan. I've cruised Alaska twice in September and once in July, but next May will be my first time in spring. Your video has been a help, so thanks for sharing.
It's my pleasure to learn that you did the same cruise in early May. I believe you did have a very good time. This is our second time to Alaska. I think we'll go there once again in the near future because we live in Vancouver. Good luck!
Nice video. I will go there again on Sept 1, 2013. Last time I took the cruise to Alaska was May 2008. I think the weather there in Sept wil be the same as May.
Good video. It reminded me of our sailing through the Icelandic Fjords, when we were on the Adventure of the Seas (Royal Caribbean), to Iceland and Norway. This short video clip shows the ship sailing out of an Icelandic fjord. Sailing the Icelandic Fjords, Leaving Akureyri Adventure of the Seas Royal Caribbean
thank you...I do have one more question though...on your video, some people were in heavy jackets while others dress lightly....is it really cold there? I really have no clue what to bring yet...
When I was there in early May 2013, the weather was about 5C. Now according to the weather report, the weather at the ports of call is about 9-20C, much warmer compared to early May. I suggest that before starting the cruise, you had better get the latest weather forecast of Juneau, Skagway and Ketchikan from the website and you know what to bring. Again, have a nice cruise!
Thank you Annie, I already searched the weather report since last week just to see what the temperature is like at the ports...according to the numbers I saw, it shouldn't be too cold. I sure will double check again before I go. I am glad that it isn't super cold...I am looking forward to the trip and thank you again for sharing your memories with the viewers!
We are going to all these places soon and this is very helpful. You said at the pier in Juneau, there are some tour stalls and you bought the Juneau City and Mendenhall Glacier Tour there. How many were there in each group tour? Do you have to wait until they fill up a bus (or minivan) before the tour can start? and how much was it per person? As for Ketchikan, I guess we can just walk around to all these places ourselves? Thanks again for the video and nice advice.
I forget the exact fare (round trip $15 ???), but it's about half the price booked on the ship. There was no tour group. After buying the ticket from the stall, the agent will tell you where to wait. The bus runs often and you don't wait long. It's about 20-minute ride each way. You had better walk 15 minutes to Nugget Falls, where you can stand closer to enjoy the awesome beauty of Mendenhall Glacier and Nugget Falls. It's worth the tour. Before getting off the bus, ask the driver the return schedule. In Ketchikan, you can walk to visit the port city. Finally, have a nice trip!
Thanks Annie. I guess you only took the rt shuttle bus to the glacier if you had time to walk to Nugget Falls (one of the main things I like to see) because a city and glacier tour doesn't give you time for that. I got in touch with a local co. and they said "Nugget Falls is only accessible on foot and is a 1.5 hour round trip walk from the glacier visitor center at the Mendenhall Glacier Park". And if we want to see the Red Dog Saloon, it's is walking distance from the main dock.
Madeleine McCarthy Like most passengers, we only took the shuttle bus to the glacier. We stayed there for 2 hours. It's not far from the visitor center to the glacier and the Falls, 15 minutes walking distance one way. After we returned to Juneau, we walked to the Red Dog Saloon and other souvenir stores. We also took the tramway to the top of Mt. Roberts to see the panoramic view of Juneau. You had enough time to do these as long as you disembark earlier.
Annie Liu I hope to go with my wife when she gets her visa!!! She lives in the Dominican Republic so this would be a very crazy experience for her, she never really experienced cold in a natural setting
Annie Liu Thanks so so much Annie. That sounds like a good plan for Juneau. This plan would allow more time to appreciate the glacier and walk the trail to Nugget Falls. We probably will take a taxi or rent a minivan since we are a group of 9 ... this way we won't have to depend on the shuttle's schedule. As for Skagway, I am debating between all rail 3 hrs for $119/pp; all bus 6.5.hrs for $99 or 2.5 hrs $45.00/Adult; or a mix of rail and bus: 3.5hrs for $128/pp or 7.5hrs for $184 ... so many options and I wonder which is the best.
wow thanks so much, doing similar cruise this year, leaving vancouver MAy 22nd, cruising aboard Jewel Of The Seas, stopping all same ports. Hope we can witness the same beauty.
I am planning on going on an Alaskan cruise next year most likely leaving out of Seattle. I am just wondering which cruise there would be the best to take. I've heard there are several: Inside passage, Outside or both, I think. I'm also trying to find out what are the best ports of call to go to and some of the tours that I should do.
Inside passage is better than outside passage. If you leave out of Vancouver, there is only inside passage. But, if you leave out of Seattle, there are both inside and outside passages. The best ports of call include Juneau, Skagway and Ketchikan. The best shore excursions are Mendenhall Glacier in Juneau and White Pass Rail in Skagway. Moreover, May is the best month to visit because the fare is cheaper and almost all the mountains are snow-capped.
Thanks for the quick response. I did see that White Pass Rail excursion and thought that it would be good. I also saw one port had these sky rides on a cable up a mountain that also caught my eye. Was also thinking about some river rafting and the dogs pulling you on the ice. You can buy the tours on the boat right or should you book most in advance?
Vader58 There is Tramway to Mt. Roberts, US$31 for an adult, close to the pier of Juneau. Besides, there are the tours of dogsledding, whale watching, etc. You don`t have to book in advance until you are on the ship. There are some tour stalls at the pier and the prices are cheaper.
Wonderful slide show. We are going to take a cruise on the same route in 2 months. Did you go with the ship's excursions? Is it possible to make our own arrangements for shore excursions? We usually make our own arrangements on other cruises but thought that maybe there is not enough people/competition in these remote ports. Any info will be appreciated.
Of course, you can make your own arrangements for shore excursions. As for us, in Juneau, we bought the tour ticket at the pier. It’s cheaper and many tour stalls are available at the pier. In Skagway, we booked the excursion of White Pass Railroad from the ship. It’s US$124.95 each adult, a little expensive. If you buy the ticket at the train station, you have to walk a long way and it’s only 5 dollars cheaper. In May, the scenery is more beautiful because of much snow beside the railroad. In Ketchikan, we took a walk to the famous Creek Street only because it was raining. Finally, have a nice trip!
Hi, The best video I've seen thank you so much for sharing. We are cruising Alaska next month and staying in Vancouver for a couple of nights before, can you recommend anywhere to visit? Planning to walk across the Capilano bridge and visit Stanley Park but if you can suggest any other gems we would appreciate your comments.
While in Vancouver, you can enjoy an incredible simulation ride by seeing the famous 3D movie Fly Over Canada at Canada Place, the pier where you take the cruise. You can take a walk along the seawall of Stanley Park from the pier, take a walk across the Capilano Bridge, visit Queen Elizabeth Park, take a 2-hour drive to Whistler and take Peak 2 Peak Gondola, or take a ferry to Vancouver Island to visit the Butchart Gardens. Have a nice vacation!
The fare we spent at Verandah suite (balcony) for 3 people was CA$1,922, tax included. We booked the cruise about 1.5 months before the departure date, when there was a promotion. The fare for 2 people must have been cheaper.
Awesome video.. doing an Alaskan cruise in may 2015 .Coming from Australia where the weather is always warm to hot . Am curious as to what to wear clothes wise ...Rain jackets ,Jumpers .Jeans.. footwear ?.. would love some advice from people ..Thanks
I remember the temperature during the 7-day cruise in May 2013 was mostly about 5C. For shore excursions, you had better take some warm clothes and rain jackets in case it is cold or rainy. Have a wonderful trip!
Oh, I'm glad to know that your husband is working on Volendam. The crew are very friendly and always wear a smile on their face. Thanks for their help and good luck to you and your family!
