Funny you should say that, when I was at a meeting at RAF Brize Norton with the MoD and RAF refuelling flight crew to propose the MRTT to replace the Vc10 refuelling fleet in 1996, MoD asked why the refuel operator could not be replaced by one of the pilots moving to the RARO station, and saving the costs of a "trade". The VC10 crew were delighted when I explained the heavy workload of the two pilots during a refuel transfer.
Sounds good in theory until the automatic system beats the hell out of the reciever. As a retired boom operator nothing beats the Mark 1 eyeball for AR.
the MRTT should be based on the stretched A330-900 F Neo variant of the A330 series!!! a maritime version of the A330-900 F Neo with multi role ASW / EW / SIGINT capabilities could very well make the A330-900 F Neo the best maritime patrol aircraft in the world!!! in my own personal opinion I believe that a A330-900 Neo multi role maritime patrol aircraft should have ASW / EW / SIGINT & over the horizon strike capabilities!!! OTHC will require installation of a sizeable rotary missile (weapons) launcher inside the A330-900 Neo cargo interior (preferably in the middle section of the aircraft for better weight distribution across throughout the aircraft) that'll be lowered & retracted through a weapons bay door in the floor of the aircraft!!! the in-built rotary missile launcher can be fitted with a variety of missiles ranging from Exocet AM38 anti-ship missiles & STORM Shadow Mk2 long range land attack cruise missiles to AIM-120 AMRAAM or Astra 30 BVR air-to-air missiles for self defense, even heavy weight guided torpedoes if necessary!!! aircraft like the A330-900 Neo multi role MPA can accommodate both ASW & related capabilities (3-4 work stations + crew) & the rotary missile launcher in a single A330-900 Neo, thanks to it's stretched fuselage!!! Boeing was wise to cash in with their commercial aircraft portfolio!!! the P8i Neptune ASW aircraft (15 units in service with the Indian Navy since 2016) which is based on the B737-800 commercial narrow body passenger jet!!! if Boeing can use the B737-800 imagine if the A330-900 Neo can be adapted as a multi role maritime patrol aircraft think how capable it could be!!! if the A330-900 Neo MPA can be priced at €230 Mn to €350 Mn (without spares & support) it should more than just tempting for interested buyers (foreign navies)!!!
Would be nice to see the complete contact operation from Left echelon to Astern; Astern to the contact position including boom movement to avoid the F16 canopy, and a little bit of "Fine Target Tracking". Until I see this, it is a simulation ...
And the KC-46 still has issues with MANUAL refuelling
Wow! This is incredible! Fantastic job guys!✈️✈️✈️
The best multirole refuelling airplane ever develop! Just another great innovetive work by Airbus defence and space
Well, this is very impressive.
Canada should buy these
Absolutely agree, the RCAF were one of the first with an A310 conversion in the early 90s.
They are !
Stunning!
Maybe in the future You guys will release the upgrade of A330MRTT , A330neoMRTT
Greece should buy 3 of those
3:59 wow. It is beautifully designed. I think very soon there will be no people on the tanker planes.

We just got the best tech, that we really wanted but now exist in present time.
Metrics Mr. García‼️
He already showed the metrics as well
Interesting innovation😎👍
The USAF really fucked up with the KC-46.
mrtt means multi role taker transport

Spanish engineering !
How horrible!
It’s way better than the original mrtt
Its so cool

Philippine air force buy a330 mrtt by 2024
Mr boom operator your right id. Want my eye ball on it too former crew chief 97th bomb wing

ur not sitting in the A330 MRTT cockpit!!! ur in the main cabin at the refueling operator's station!!!
A330 MRTT refueling station is indeed inside the main cockpit together with the pilots ;)
what the advantage this tech nothing yes its good for the future UAV tanker
