You should give JoJo a watch it's like nonstop music references assuming you watch the Japanese version with English subtitles (the correct version) which has the original copyrighted names of the powers. English dub version is altered killer queen=deadly queen, king crimson=Emperor crimson Metallica= metallic.

There is another layer about the music in the show, the villains heroes and their power they fight with have names of bands, which, of course, had to be cencored in the dubs because of copyright stuff, which seems not that kind of big deal in japan

JoJo in particular is imo a love letter to fashion, action, and music and then amps it to an 11. A lot of the "spirits" or Stands as they call it are named after bands and songs.
The range of music is everywhere. And they make it a point to flex the different genres. The love for music is there and they make it a point to make sure every second of the music has something to add.
Great cover btw, and I'm hoping you are enjoying your journey into the anime/game verse of song!

  • @HarrisBoe
    @HarrisBoe Рік тому +137

What you said about people who enjoy anime and video games being exposed to a wider variety of music is so incredibly true. I find so much modern music to sound exactly the same. But as amazing as this music is on its own, I almost feel like part of what makes it *truly* special is experiencing it as a part of the full package. Watching the song play during an emotional or empowering moment that you’ll always be reminded of whenever you re-listen to it.
Of course, you’ll often be too distracted by what’s going on on-screen to fully appreciate the song at the time. That’s why I like to experience this kind of music both with and without the context. First experience as part of the show or game so I have can establish that emotional connection to a specific moment or feeling, then on its own to appreciate the entirety of the composition on its own merits, all while still being able to draw on those memories of my first experience.

There are a number of anime shows out there with fantastic music scoring. JoJo's is known for it, as the creator of the series uses the soundtrack he listens to while working to influence his work. Several characters are named after songs/artists/albums. From the first series alone, you meet Baron Zeppeli, Robert E.O. Speedwagon, and Dio, and the list just goes and goes from there.

Jojo's Bizarre Adventure started as a manga (comic) that started originally in 1987, and is still being written/published to this day. It is divided into multiple "parts" with each part covering a different character, time period and geographical region: the original Jojo takes place in the 1890s in England, the second part takes place in the 1930s in Italy, the third in the 1980s in the Middle East, etc. The author just started up Part 9, to give some context for how long this thing has been going on.
And, unsurprisingly, each part is also musically distinct. This song comes from Part 5, which takes place in the early 2000s, so it takes a lot of hints from hip-hop and other musical genres popular at the time. Of course, it also has that certain flair that you can find in a lot of Jojo music, which you may understand more as you hear more of the songs from it.

When I was younger, video game (and then later anime) music were very near and dear to me, then as I got older I started playing an instrument so I got further immersed in music as a whole. Since then it feels like both mediums have just expanded on each other for me since one helps me appreciate the other even more

JJBA is in a nutshell a generational piece about a bloodline of heroes battling evil across the eras, except it simultaneously both takes itself seriously and is extremely wacky and dialed up to 11 all over.
Each season, or "part", is almost like a completely different show:
Part 1 "Phantom Blood" - Family Drama and Vampires in England
Part 2 "Battle Tendency" - Nazis vs Vampires in Europe
Part 3 "Stardust Crusaders" - Road Trip to Egypt
Part 4 "Diamond is Unbreakable" - Small Town Murder Mystery in Japan
Part 5 "Golden Wind" - Italian Gangsters
Part 6 "Stone Ocean" - Prison Drama in America

Loads of good songs. If you do a deep dive with this, every all the opening songs are good. Very diverse too. Anime Ops are going to be most of your requests for Anime fyi. Not that there isn't good OST, but there are hundreds of great Ops and Eds and there are more known and talked about then OSTs. More Mainstrem, I guess.

I recently found out that not only show refers to popular music but also its soundtrack does. I myself recognized intro from "Owner of a lonely heart" by Yes in Taku Iwasaki's "Welcome to the world" and there's also "Jaws" main motive in Yugo Kanno's "Shark". There definitely is much more to discover, so I would like if you listen to at least the most popular and recognizable OST of this.

    • @MIZZKIE
      @MIZZKIE 24 дні тому

I've noticed a HEAVY Monster Hunter influence on Kanno Yugo's music pieces. At first I shrugged it off as pure coincidence, but when Risotto's theme COMPLETELY "stole" a tune from the Swamp theme (intense blue giant crab PTSD flashbacks), I just came to the conclusion that it's not a coincidence. When I have the time, I will go through all of Parts 3 to 6 (the Parts that Kanno Yugo composed) to look for references to other music.
For example, Narancia/Aerosmith's theme is obviously an homage to the Ace Combat series. I just KNEW it was gonna have an emotional guitar solo in the middle. And it did. Bam.
Also, Giorno's theme has an homage to Nausicaa of the Valley of the Wind at 1:02.
Edit: Prosciutto's theme in the PS2 game is an homage to 007.
And I love how everybody in the comments section universally agrees that Abbacchio's theme in ASB (which BTW takes musical references from the corresponding band to the character) is not Moody Blues, but Linkin Park. A few people are saying that the reference is from Nights in White Satin, but I don't hear it at all.

I feel that experiencing stuff like that and actively seeking out different types of music makes me more well-rounded and appreciative of music as a whole, even when I can’t understand the lyrics (in Japanese songs). It also helps me so that I can jam out to whatever I need to during certain times, such as OSTs and lo-fi while doing homework.
Also, funny you bring up Santana because one of the villains of Part 2 is named after Santana. The JoJo’s mangaka, Araki, loves Western music and that’s why so many names have references. Also, all of the JoJo’s ending songs are Western songs. It’s an incredibly creative and unique series, it was my first anime and although it’s not in my top ten of favorites, it’s just so special and cool.

Because there can be a wide variety of situations, characters, etc, many different types of sound can be called for at any given time. I hope u listen to all the main character and main villain themes. They're all super cool and interesting to listen to. Everyone knows the OST u listened since it's also been used in a lot of memes but there's so many pieces of music that I think are just as good or even better.

Jojos a masterpiece, I truly recommend to you, maybe to react on the channel. The manga started in 1987, it's divided in 9 parts, it's still ongoing during these days and it's the 9th longest manga ever. It has influenced (and has influences from) any kind of pop culture, like real songs and bands, movies, fashion world, real events, ecc... Araki (the mangaka) has done many collaboration with famous brand like Gucci, Balenciaga, Mercedes, other fashion brands and his works were exposed at the Louvre due to his amazing art style that is so recognizable and unique. The anime started in 2012 and ended in 2021 and for now it covers 6 of 9 parts. Basically it's the bizzarre story of the descendants of the Joestar family, which are all called with the nickname JoJo, each one the main character for each part. Every part is unique from the other but ofc they are all connected. Also the power systems and characters influenced so many other mangas and anime, like basically most of the battle shonen that uses some time of power (one piece, naruto, jjk, db, bleach, ecc). The whole jojo manga is longer than one piece and jojo part 7 is rated the second best manga of all time on my anime list. Truly recommended!

From the Initial D anime, I got introduced to Japanese Eurobeat. Starting with m.o.v.e - Around the World
A bit weird ... isn't eurobeat an Italian thing?
    Speaking of Italian ...
From Vampire the Masquerade: Bloodlines video game, I started listening to Lacuna Coil. Swamped was in the game.

Jojo's Bizzare Adventure is a story following Johnathan Joestar, nicknamed Jojo, in 1880's England who finds himself battling evil and injustice to protect what he loves and for justice. Dio Brando, Johnathan's step brother aims to take everything the Joestars had, and his evil greed grew to the world and eventually fate itself. After the defeat of Dio, the Joestars have been cursed to fight Dio and the loose ends left behind for generations to fight, all of whom are nicknamed JoJo.
Each part of Jojo follows a descendant of Johnathan Joestar. Part 5 takes place in 2004(?) Italy in a crime riddled city, following Johnathan Joestar's and Dio Brando's 15 year old son, Giorno Giovanna. ( Gio is pronounced as Jo, cuz it's Italian. So it's "Jor-no Jo-van-na" Similar to "Di-Jor-no" in Digiorno pizza) Giorno is a good kid, but he is what he grew up in. He's a thief and a scammer. After getting wrongfully involved in a gangster's murder and an attempt made on his life, he now aims to become the mob boss that rules these streets, by eliminating the boss with the help of the boss' next in line to be copo, Bruno Bucciarati. Giorno wants to rid the streets of such grave injustice like selling drugs to kids and all the rampant crime. Even though Giorno has the ability to give life to objects (turning them into living things) he will not think twice about killing his enemies.
The name of Giorno's power is Golden Experience. It's a spirit, a stand, that can give life to objects. It can also barrage you with a flurry of punches that usually will instantly kill people IF Golden Experience touches people. How? Cuz it dopes people up with life, so they're so high on life they're paralyzed and will be experiencing everything in slow motion in excruciating detail, leading to the shock killing the person before the punches do. And also the theme is also used for the other members of Giorno's gangstars.
That's pretty much the premise. Noticed something weird? Good! I bet it's that Giorno's power, Golden Experience is not named Golden Wind. Don't worry there's a reason for that.
