Could you imagine if one day you went to the Hyjal gate in Winterspring and it was just open? Like with an entire fleshed-out level 60 zone with quests and a new raid? What a way to cap off Season of Discovery! Of course, I know it would be insane to do something like that without advertising it to everyone and making a big deal out of it, and dataminers would probably find out about it on day one anyway, but I can dream! Great video as always, I'd love to see more!
fck data miner spoling the fun same diff like why do you need a guide to lvl dont you like the game? you need it to end has quick has poss . anyhow i was thinking the same thing hyjal sod phase 4 hype!
I think if they did something like that, without advertising it would actually be a 4D chess move, as the players would make the best advert of it and make it bigger than Blizzard could ever do.
I can never stop appreciating this genre of WoW videos that remind me of how big the game is by pointing out the small details. There's something kind of haunting about seeing these dead ends that imply that there used to be plans for expansion or questlines to get patched in, but they've been forgotten over the years. I'll never quite forget when the Molten Front was new, full of people, and really sold the feeling of being in the frontlines with everyone there, and then in a few years it's completely barren, just NPCs fighting scripted mobs to try to keep selling that feeling to people who weren't there. It's not even a dead end zone you end up in for grinding levels like Silithus used to be; you sort of have to intentionally want to go the Molten Front to end up there.
I've always loved these areas growing up, and I am so glad to see them mentioned here! I once made the journey to the South Seas, corpse hopping as a Night Elf wisp to reach the shores. That locale, along with the Hyjal gate, the sealed Grim Batol, all gave Vanilla this beautiful sense of mystery and horizons, and wonder what could lay beyond these hidden areas. They are liminal spaces to such a wonderful fantastical degree.
Kalimdor is just built different. The fact that not everywhere you go has to have a functional purpose is what makes classic azeroth so great. The altar of storms and grim batol would be my two others. Even things out for eastern kingdoms.
I love the "simplicity" of your content. There is no drama, high volume etc. It's just interesting facts. Thank you for being different than all other content creators.
Ever since I was a kid I could have sworn that several of these would eventually lead to something, but they never did which is arguably more inspiring for the imagination.
All of your videos lately have been real hits, recreating and expanding on the mysteries of the old world. Very cozy and charming, looking forward to more!
Darkwhisper Gorge is totally where the last raid of SOD is going to be. The raid in the roots of the world tree below Hyjal where the legion is fighting Old God Forces leading to the story of the end patches of War Within. Just a wild shot in the dark please steal this idea developers!
Moooore dead ends, please! I want to visit the Winterspring valley soon; I'd forgotten how tough a place that was back in the vanilla days, and I don't think I've been back since.
Another great video. I liked that you put in 3-4 seconds of ambience per location. It's not too much and just enough to, together with the music, bring that adventurous feeling.
When you mentioned Darkwhisper Gorge I was going to comment about how I actually visited it a lot to visit Mt. Hyjal back in the day, and then you went ahead and said it, lol. I remember I would guide people through to Mt. Hyjal and teach them how to wall-walk before Blizzard eventually fixed that exploit. I also remember swimming to that island south of Tanaris with my friend back in the day - we used the swim speed potion - died, and then ran back out to our corpse and popped another swim speed potion to reach it. I use to LOVE exploring the maps back then, you could basically go anywhere as long as you knew how to wall-walk and were willing to spend some time trying to work around the hills and mountains. Awesome video, makes me feel very nostalgic.
The good old days before Blizz slammed invisible walls everywhere and started going after anyone who didn't "play as intended". WoW became a themepark with strictly fenced paths
This was a great subject, I remember feeling exactly like you described when visiting Blasted Lands doing the warlock quest or other spots. I think you could expand further and talk about the most desolate/lonely characters in the game, those that exist for a purpose (or not) and are far away from the others.
one quest from the hunter legion order hall leads to the tower of Eldrara. you are sent to "collect" initiate outfit pieces from the local mages to disguise yourself. you just duel someone outside the tower, never actually get to go in.
Hi Jedi! The lack of doodads, critters, or terrain features make Darkwhisper Gorge and the Tainted Scar utterly dreary. It's amazing how WoW can look so lively with just a handful of decorations -- and how dull it can look without it.
1:31 there are moonsabers just northwest of the ruins. Kinda near where the cat spawns. I slways thought the cats in Darkshore and Ashenvale maybe feral cousins of the domesticated mounts. Like Shadumbra.
3:35 Thats something I can recommend to everyone playing classic or vanilla. Or WotLK for that matter. Few games has such good ambience as early wow. I can personally recommend Duskwood, Winterspring, Howling Fjord, Strat/Scholo and whole Lordaeron tbh. Lower that music volume, crank the ambience and just sit back and drift away 😊🖤
I always liked tracking the path of the titans from ulduar to its end point in dragonblight southern sea. I like to think it was connected to uldaman and beyond.
I made a video on that... you should go check it out! :D It could definitely connect to some of the other Titan strongholds or perhaps the Well of Eternity :)
These are the places I used to go out of my way to wander around. I think my favorite place in the game might be on the coast of Desolace at the tower on the cliff in Ethel Rethor.
Land's End Beach is also the gateway to a ton of hidden Un Goro/Silithus hidden zones. Swim west and you'll eventually be able to go straight up a mountain into a zone in Un Goro which has an incredible amount to explore.
This is more of a middle-of-the-road of Azeroth, but I've been waiting for decades for the Tower of Azora to be explained, mentioned, anything at all. Not since Randy Marsh climbed it with a couple of night elves has it been referred to as existent! Just who is, or was, Azora?
Have you considered doing a collab with Wowcrendor? He does a series called “pointless top 10s”for things in Azeroth. Would love to see your in-depth takes on what is deemed mundane 😊
I have a screenshot from 2007 with my hunter and her saberpet looking at the sea on the very far end even more north of the lcoation mentioned first near mathysta ruins
Sadly the end of the world as we know it is coming with the cata pre patch. Thank you for sharing! It is definitely a weird feeling being somewhere that alone in a "Massive" multiplayer game :o
A lot of places have basically became liminal spaces for people who have played the through several expansions.
If you play on an RP server, one of the most fun things to do is to find obscure places like this for RP scenes.
For sure! :D

Altar of Storms in Burning Steppes is for Dreadsteed Warlock quest. Altar of Storms in Blasted Lands is for Rakh'likh chain (Lady Sevine part)

Coming right up! It's such an interesting location... very unique with the little pockets of land connected with caves. :)

2:10 Nevermind early concept maps, the manual that shipped with the game also placed BFD at Darkshore.
Awesome video as always man! I love adventuring in game and in real life. Seeking the best places in public to be in private is a fun time.

Oh cool! :) I didn't know that.
I really do hope they open up Mount Hyjal in SoD and add in all of the other planned ideas for Vanilla that never made it in like the Azshara BG
That would be awesome! Maybe flesh out the Timbermaw Tunnels as well :D
Excellent video! Heading straight to Darkshore to try and tame one of those sabers!
Good luck! :D
5:00 Indeed I've been there a LOT, as spoilered in the video.. Rich Thorium Veins show up there and honestly Azshara was my fav route !

It's videos like this.

@Jediwarlock did you know there are more of those roads to nowhere? At least one is found between Ashenvale and Stonetalon, kinda where the tunnel is.

What's the map at 4:52 from? I don't remember silithus ever having that bit jutting out to the west, under the Isle of dread.

Stonetalon moutians, desolace, feralas. All felt empty
Lonely and mysterious :D
