BAROLO and BARBARESCO Wine Tasting - Italy Slow Travel

- Piemonte is known for its 3 famous wines: Barbera, Barolo and Barbaresco. We had previously tasted (and loved) the Barbera so today we decide to try both Barolo and Barbaresco.
Both of these 100% Nebbiolo wines are high in tannins which is mitigated by a longer aging prior to bottling. We start out with the town of Barbaresco, very small and cute. The wine is very enjoyable and full of flavor.
Next on our list is Barolo, a much larger and cuter town. Debbie falls instantly in love and a 'I could live here' is heard very quickly. We try the Barolo with a wonderful meal in the town of Barolo. Liberal portions of black truffle make this a very memorable meal and experience. The Barolo wine is a bit bold for us but still an excellent choice for a dark meat dish.
Last but not least is the town of La Morra for the spectacular views. We really enjoy the scenery and finish off our day with a gelato.

I wonder what the name of the first wine was...the one where the winery was down the street. My cousin Gianni Canonica makes Barolo and he is located right in Barolo on Via Roma, across from the school. His wine is difficult to find in restaurants because his production is small, but you never know. I am happy that you enjoyed Barolo. It is amazing and I too was able to visit last year.

I so love your videos tasting food and wines, except tongue!! I know it's an acquired taste... The Piemonte region is spectacular, and now bells are ringing!! I have had Barbera, Barolo, but not Barbaresco wines. Definitely time for a Gelato Deb or you are going to melt away!! Yay!! you found a gelato shop open.. Hit the spot.. What a beautiful magical place.

We love wine tours! Still have to do one in Italy but Friuli (isa's home region) has very good wine! In Italy you get most of the times something to eat with your drink and normally for free 😉

Oh my word... I've never ever heard of those 3 Bs! Are those wines well known in the US and Belgium or more in Italy?
Oh they're probably popular with the wine snobs in America LOL!!
My father in law was from Piedmont but married someone from Cremona and passed away there at 94. He loved his Barbera and would go every year to buy wine in bulk and then bottle it himself - way better than what you could find in the stores in Cremona and it cost so little. I had asked him if one of the times he could do the same with a Barbaresco or Barolo - I was paying at least $30 on the rare occasion I would drink it in the US. I figured that we could have a nice supply which would age over time and also get enjoyed when we made our annual visit to Cremona (taking a couple bottles back with us). But no! Barbera and occasionally a Grignolino were the only wines to drink - Barolo and Barberesco according to him were bad for the digestive system! Yeah, he was a “contadino” who bless him was stuck in his ways. Ah, the missed opportunity!

@@ouritaliandestiny7955 Yes, many Europeans grow up with a particular wine and like my father in law they aren't into drinking different wines or even eating different foods. However, there is something in that: one should drink the wine they like not the show off/expensive wine.

It was Rosso Barolo and they indeed have an amazing menu!!
Where did yall eat at where you got the truffle shaved on the pasta? Asti? Remember the name?
Yes Isaac, we do remember. It was in Barolo and it was at Osteria Rosso Barolo. We highly recommend this place, the food was amazing!!
I know you guys don't focus on figures but how much might a wine tasting or a glass of wine cost in Piedmont? ~ Mandy
I think they can be quite pricey, but we'll never know as we couldn't find a tasting room that was open. The glass I had in Barbaresco was only 5 euros at the cafe, but that was just a glass, not a tasting😢

Our current housesit is looking after a kitten in an apartment at the Praia d'el Rei 5-star Marriott Golf and Beach Resort... and we were told that the drinks are 5-star prices as are €4.50 for a glass of wine, or twice as much as a bottle 😁🤣 I think we'd be on tap water in Italy with our €16 per day budget 🤣 I am so happy we can experience these wonderful things vicariously through you two! 😃♥️
The mistake you make with pronunciation of the letter T is you make it sound like a D ..just saying
