Absolutely my favorite of the four songs they performed 😍 This is magical, the lyrics are so quirky, intelligent and funny. Live, love, laugh, Sparks 🥹🫶
I had never head of this band until these Midnight Special performances showed up. I was only 2 when this aired originally. Im a fan and have listened to the Sparks albums now. Thanks Midnight Special!
I had to revisit the lyrics. Bonkers. Ron Mael. Quintessential. Here, there are lots of things to do And a panoramic view Of the universe completely surrounding you And here, you cannot buy souvenirs We're never going back, never, never Basically, I guess it could be worse Yes, I do suppose it could be worse Here, there are many, many sheep And the people only sleep And awake to tell how gory and gruesome was their end And I don't have many friends And it's really very clean and I'm thinking Juliet, you broke our little pact Juliet, I'm never coming back Up here in heaven without you I'm here in heaven without you Up here in heaven without you It is hell knowing that your health will keep you out of here For many, many years Dear, do you often think of me As you overlook the sea Do I qualify as dearly departed or am I That sucker in the sky The fall guy for the first and the last time Juliet, I thought we had agreed Now I know why you let me take the lead Up here in heaven without you I'm here in heaven without you Up here in heaven without you It is hell knowing that your health will keep you out of here For many, many years Second thoughts, is that what you had? Second thoughts, first I broke my back Second thoughts, as I hit the sea Second thoughts, for eternity, for eternity, for eternity Up here in heaven without you I'm here in heaven without you Up here in heaven without you It is hell knowing that your health will keep you out of here For many, many years Up here in heaven without you I'm here in heaven without you Up here in heaven without you It is hell being here without you, dear Up here in heaven without you I'm here in heaven without you
"Dear, do you often think of me As you overlook the sea Do I qualify as dearly departed or am I That sucker in the sky The fall guy for the first and the last time" These are the kind of lyrics my 9-year-old self was built upon. Many thanks to R&R, you did a great job.
When Russell shakes his mike over his head, he looks for all the world like a priest blessing the crowd as he makes his way in a religious procession - with a side order of Betty Boop doing one of her dances.
They've had success for over 50 years, with hit songs in many different countries, and recently doing two sold out shows at the Royal Albert Hall and playing the Hollywood Bowl this Sunday.
I feel this. They probably weren't the best judge of accessability. It may have taken 50 years- but THIS is their day. (Side note: Ron is ultra weird in this clip. Was he actually in control of his vibe, or was this his actual, everyday uncontrollable vibe? I dunno what spectrum he rolls on-but I love him totally, ride or die!)
And what is missing here ladies and gents? Yes, the incredible lead guitar of Adrian Fisher, listen to the original on 'Kimono my House' and compare it to Trevor White's bland playing on this version.
But personally and musically they didn’t get along, when asked by Trouser Press in 1975 why he was replaced Russell just said “A__hole.” Ron: “Also he was from ‘da blooz skool’ and we needed someone who was a little more adaptable to what we were trying to do.” And Joseph Fleury, one of their managers said “Adrian hated the band, hated the music. He was simply in it for the money.”
The musicians Ron and Russell assembled for this phase of the band were incredible- those drums!
The one performance that both made Sparks my favorite band ever since and deeply opened my mind to the possibilities of what rock music could be.
When Tiny Tim met Roxy Music.
But it's good that way.
As much I want to hate that description as a fan....it's so accurate
That is absolutely hilarious
Love Russell at the end when he's listening for the right time to say "years" lol

What a voice!😃
I saw Sparks in 2022 in St Paul, MN. They were incredible! Incredible. They've gotten better, like a fine wine.
He reminds me of a male version of Kate Bush. She, too, was way ahead of her time just like these guys.
Happy Wednesday... thank you for sharing! 💖
Yep, she's amazing. Like Sparks, she uses every note and chord available ( and unlike a lot of regular rock groups ) A true musical genius.
Yes, know I understand, I am also a great kate bush fan 😊
Dinky Diamond ON FIRE!!!
Favourite band of all time.Dinky was a great drummer RIP.
Me too.
Sparks and Opeth.
Yin and Yang bands!
This is actually the #1 song in Heaven. Your favorite band's favorite band.
Such a great band. They were definitely unique and somewhat ahead of the curve! I loved their sound and aesthetic! Thanks so much!✌️
What do you mean ,"were "!? ARE unique and ahead of the curve NOW. A great band, on world tour now!

Love them with a LIVE Band! Dayum!💥🎵

Superb as ever.
What an amazing version of a great song ... never heard these particular arrangements for this song before or since. Band on top form!
Russell hitting those "up in heaven" high notes.
Love seeing this old live footage of Sparks. Kimono My House is one of my favorite albums of all time!
I wish they record that in the beginning in their studio! Love this song, I heard this song since I was 14.

Here, there are lots of things to do
And a panoramic view
Of the universe completely surrounding you
And here, you cannot buy souvenirs
We're never going back, never, never
Basically, I guess it could be worse
Yes, I do suppose it could be worse
Here, there are many, many sheep
And the people only sleep
And awake to tell how gory and gruesome was their end
And I don't have many friends
And it's really very clean and I'm thinking
Juliet, you broke our little pact
Juliet, I'm never coming back
Up here in heaven without you
I'm here in heaven without you
Up here in heaven without you
It is hell knowing that your health will keep you out of here
For many, many years
Dear, do you often think of me
As you overlook the sea
Do I qualify as dearly departed or am I
That sucker in the sky
The fall guy for the first and the last time
Juliet, I thought we had agreed
Now I know why you let me take the lead
Up here in heaven without you
I'm here in heaven without you
Up here in heaven without you
It is hell knowing that your health will keep you out of here
For many, many years
Second thoughts, is that what you had?
Second thoughts, first I broke my back
Second thoughts, as I hit the sea
Second thoughts, for eternity, for eternity, for eternity
Up here in heaven without you
I'm here in heaven without you
Up here in heaven without you
It is hell knowing that your health will keep you out of here
For many, many years
Up here in heaven without you
I'm here in heaven without you
Up here in heaven without you
It is hell being here without you, dear
Up here in heaven without you
I'm here in heaven without you
Thank you I had no idea what most of the lyrics were!
@@paulrob55 Me neither. Its a hilarious lyric

One of my favourite band of all time
RIP Dinky Diamond
Didn't know.
so glad that it is live
No one quite like Sparks
6,976 views and only 431 likes WTF??????? All fours versions are the best versions I've ever seen.
Love the first albums, great performance!!
Maybe my fave Sparks tune!
So great that you posted more Sparks! It shows that you listen to us! Thank you ❤
Increibles, uf, cómo suena esto.
Thank you.
At least two decades ahead of their time.
They could have released this a decade later and it would have worked. And we got to see the red neon letters close up.
Great !
Best one of the bunch ! Intro and outro both sounding pretty strong and a tad upgraded from the studio recording
❤
"Of course he changes his facial expression. He has about 20 different scowls."

MORE SPARKS!!! ❤❤❤
Thank you so much for uploading four videos from this concert (was it only these four songs?), super grateful!
Yes, they only performed 4 songs on this show, hosted by George Carlin. Great to finally seeing the footage again after 49 years!
Yes it was!
😢😊🙏

😍🤩😎
A lot of parts of this song are copy paste by others 😮
I love Sparks for many reasons. But the falsetto can be grating. By the (near) end of Equator I was like, "end. END ALREADY!!!"
Couldn't understand a word. Their choice. Probably not the best one, if they wanted mainstream success.
