I used your video to remove the freeze plug behind that bracket on the left cylinder head and Im glad I did the job went way easier than I expected thanks
Thank you kindly…feeling pretty rough these days health wise and needed to see what all goes into this job. Out of work and running out of money…got to save where we can. Thanks again Enjoy
You don’t need to purge the thing.. you fill it up. Put cap on. Turn key on and drive the dang thing to a street and slowly go lock to lock lock to lock to lock. Like 10 lock to locks slowly. Then drive it around the block. Leave wheel turned truck on. Puts pressure on the pump and get out and look for leaks. All is good then straighten the wheels and remove the cap engine off. Add more if needed. If you over fill your just wasting your time and money. Drive it. I’ve done it this way so many times. Or can get your jack out and jack stand’s out and do it. Like wtf? Flush your system you drain your pump then change it. Unless you’re pumping salt water in it you’re fine. You can use atf if you want!!! It’s a hydraulic pump not a water pump
Is this the same as the 2001 Chevy suburban 1500 LT 4 x 4 I’m almost positive it’s the same everything looks damn near the same but I’m about to tackle the replacement , Just wanted some last minute Confirmation if it all possible.
I watch the video until the bleeding process. Now my new pump is whining came to finish the video see what I did wrong. Didn't bleeding my old fluid/air. 😅
Do you have to remove the pulley in order to access the three bolts? What if you got a new pump with a new pulley could you just leave the old pulley on and get at those three bolts? Also what brand did you get that had the bad bearing out of the box so we can avoid it.

Exactly the video I needed years later, thanks Mike
Good attention to detail, very useful showing everything the way you did instead of 99% of other videos out here
Rust helps with the pulley removal. The one I got off barely came off and it was clean new metal on new metal. Practically welded on.
I have a 01 tahoe thats hard to steer im reverce dpo u think its the pump or gear box has no noises and is full of fluid
Excellent across the board. Thanks
That looks nice and clean. Which degreaser did you use?

Purge it
Finished my job and did not remove the fan clutch. No problem at all
Is this the same procedure for a 4.8?

That may have hydro boost brake master which is different from the pickups that have vacuum assist brake master
The more rare 5.3 Envoy V8 with the long neck reservoir is much easier. No bracket or fan removal needed

No you have to remove the pulley. The bolts are too long and will contact the pulley before they’re all the way out
Nice video. Did your new orings come with the new power steering pump? Or did you have to buy the rebuild gasket kit?
They came with the one I got from Autozone
Thank you my good man
What kind of voodoo magic is involved in getting the powersteering lines off from the rack an pinion? No room whatsoever on 2wd std cab
Bought a pump from a yard, so no need to purge, only has 109k on it
Why does every one skip steps rather than show how bracket goes on they just skip all the steps unreal
Great video
